This epitomizes McFarlane's approach to articulation: an afterthought. He doesn't put articulations on his figures so they'll articulate well and be posable in a natural way. He puts those articulations because collectors expect articulations in action figures in Current Year and he begrudgingly puts them in so he can boast the # of POA on his figures. That's it. And yes I know he doesn't personally sculpts them, but he's the boss. He's in charge and approves everything.
I love the spawns universe figures. I have all of the waves. And will buy the coming waves as well. They have a unique sculpt and come at an affordable price. Im having a lot of fun with these figures! And they look amazing with my classic kickstarter spawn with a custom cape
I think we are really seeing some of the shortcuts taken in order to keep pumping out figures every couple of months. This seems to be a consequence of the quantity over quality approach they are taking. Some still manage to be amazing, though.
Well done mate, it’s called business and profit. Do you think Todd gives a 💩 about quality when folk like you will buy anything and everything he pumps out? Same with all big brands
I only end up getting the few figures that I genuinely like. I will admit that people that buy entire waves are not giving Todd any reason to improve, though. TBH, as nice as the older figures were, they were made out of some of the most brittle plastic imaginable to the point where they would be broken while still in the box. Now that they aren’t making glorified statues anymore (which I still prefer), their lack of QC is really showing.
@@nicholasrossano7340 buy what you want! Tbh McFarlane pumps out new sculpt after new sculpt and gives us characters no one will have ever make, while trying his hardest to keep a $20 price … unlike hasbro using the same Bucky cap mold for like 8 years 😂
The arms fell off my CyGor almost straight out of the package - I was not impressed at all - compared to the Violator which was a much better figure in terms of durability.
McFarlane figures have always been trash for me, extremely brittle material usually with frozen joints. The only good line I ever experienced with them were the old Halo 3 figures. Just Halo 3. My ODST fell apart exactly how you described, out of the box on Christmas morning (I was a kid and extremely disappointed)
I’m so glad you had the time to review this figure and provide collectors with a professional interpretation of the figure’s structural engineering in conjunction with aesthetics. What is more, my daughter’s “Rainbow High Dolls” are better designed than most Mcfarlane releases. Great review ….Keep it real
There wasn't even a need to make a new mold for a bigger stand, the 12" MK11 Spawn statue has one Anyway, Anthony, could you ever make a video talking about plastics intended to DIYers or recommend one you think is nice enough? Thanks!!
This is not an action figure. This is a statue. If they made this purely as a statue, it would be terrific for it's price(and maybe work on the paint a bit more). I mean.......2/10 for the articulation is being generous.
once again mcfarlane releases a statue with minimal articulation, I don't know why they bother making action figures when they are pretty much useless outside 1 pose
This figure was such a down for me. Like, for the Spawn Megafigs, The Violator set an expectation for me, that thing is incredibly solid, feels super-substantial, This Cy-Gor, does not. He feels super-cheap, with what amounts to a hallow thin shell of ABS for the main body, and heavy PVC arms that don't exactly work the greatest with the thin nothingness that is the body.
Saw this as Target for 50% off & was tempted. After this review, glad I passed. McFarlane’s subpar offerings really make decisions easy when money is tight. Thanks Anthony!
@anthony’scustoms if u pop off the torso u will find the reason for the diaper issue. There are two tabs in the front and back that need to be glued in order to keep the diaper from creating that huge gap
The first thing that I found absurd with him was that diaper. But the arm not bending is also a huge issue for me, as you can move around the diaper and make it work. Just one thing, you can swivel the elbow and then bend the arm more without tensing the tubers. If you get to do that, can you tell me if your right arm bends normally? Mine won't, it's stuck even if the tubers aren't tensed, just want to know of yours, please.
That diaper makes the whole thing awful! Mcfarlane scored a 10 out of 10 with his 'statues' when they first started, i don't know if he ever should have started with articulated figures. When i look at this kind of crap, i am glad i stopped collecting todd's figures a long time ago... Great video !
Listen I know I shouldn’t have but I cut off the tubes in mine to get more articulation but it did nothing although the tubes are probably a big part of why the arm can’t bend but without them it doesn’t help at all
Seems like McFarlane is stuck in that awkward design stage like. Hasbro was in the first few years of Marvel Legends, but Hasbro eventually got over that hump. McFarlane has been around much longer though in terms of comic book figures. They should have it down pat by now but they don’t, and this is why I don’t collect their DC figures and stuck with Mattel’s DCUC.
I think I stopped reading Spawn right around when this guy (or The Curse maybe), I think it was around 65# or 75#. I tried to read Curse of Spawn at the same time but I've stopped altogether
I only bought one figure from McFarland And sold it. Every release is something wrong or missing. I had such of high hope when he took over the DC line. But just like the mediocre new character stories produces by DC these days; McFarland figures are carrying on that mediocrity or if not close to. The scales are all over the place. The accessories sucks. The DC no gun policy is dumb and is even affecting Imports DC lines. The bottom line is that McFarland figures are disappointing and he is almost two years in and still producing quantity but no quality. I will stick to Neca, super7, the four horses and even the cute lone coconut line the Plunderlings. A kickstarter is producing better quality figures that McFarland and Hasbro
Its been a while since such a disappointing review. I was about to get this figure and what you show us does not allow me to pay what it is worth. Todd drops the ball here. Keep going with this kind of sincerity dude.
There are so many figures today that should have limited mobility with solidly molded parts and no articulation. When you can basically only do one pose that looks good, that’s essentially what you end up with anyway, and at least a solid molded piece has the potential to have beautiful sculpting. But instead they make useless and awfully executed joints that nobody will use because it looks terrible. Nobody wins.
Usually with your review I feel that you come off a bit harsher (but when you really did down and think about it , very fair [because I usually can't really argue some points you make as it is always true); but for this figure I felt that you were way to generous in your review... I was disappointed in this figure and feel like McFarlane is just going back to the crappy things he did in the late 90s/early 2000s in that those figures were more like cheap statues and not realy toy figures.
Good for a McFarlane figure seems like we’re grading on a scale. The inconsistent scale, the often ugly as sin ball joints, the lack of any real ab crunch and almost every figure has trigger fingers and no alternative hands. Alternative head sculpts are sold as separate figures. What sucks is that since McFarlane owns Spawn, we won’t get another company to make Spawn figures.
I glad you posted this now I gotta make a choice big ten inch Godzilla Funko pop or this ?????why If I pick him reminds me of Kong like a Mecha Kong lol since Im Godzilla action figures collector idk been wanting the monkey with over size diaper 🧷🧷🧷🧷

At first I was on the fence and now I'm just passing over him entirely he's not impressive even compared to early cygor releases that did his job better
You look at this figure and think that it's unreasonable to complain about or critique its failings? You think a figure whose only accessory is detrimental, a figure with so little articulation, a figure with a horrid rubber diaper that doesn't fit, should be immune from people pointing these issues out. Wow. Go back to the pillow fort in your safe space.
Mcfarlanes choice to not give fist hands to most of their figures is a choice that continues to baffle me

Even with 5POA, the Raw10 Cygor is the superior figure. Glad it came out. Glad I have it. Glad I don't have to buy this one to have Cygor.
I wish Todd would just stick to statues, it's clearly what he wants to make.

Gotta say Cygor 2 is a much better figure. And that’s about 20 years old now. Shame. We need a highly articulated cygor
Damn I had no idea about that diaper, well I guess I just won't make him stand straight
He hides his bananas in there
I agree this monke should have bene more articulated as the NECA King Kong, but hey you cant argue with the details

It’s not perfect but McFarlane at the very least gets his products on the shelf. Hasbro would charge 100 bucks for this.
