Throughout my near 8 decades on this earth I've witnessed the development of many nasty storms...from mild to destructive. When you pay attention to "everything" around you, you begin to realize how amazing they all are. For me it never gets old...no two are alike. I still enjoy the experience... just like this one. Watching it develop through your lenses is very nice. I appreciate your interest and sense of adventure...and sharing this with us is very special. Thank you!!
Sad part is their not getting any milder... Ive witnessed some really severe ones down here just north of Houston. Just here recently, late April, < that was 100 plus winds and of course Hurricane Beryl, with winds around 90 to 95 where im at
The fact that you didn’t ruin the natural ambiance by talking the whole time, made this one of the most peaceful yet exciting thunderstorm chases out there. Bravo, well done
I've never been to New York, so this was a double treat for me. Just to see the everyday goings-on of people, the stores and shops, and the general atmosphere was interesting. I love to watch storms (on videos) and I love to hear sounds of rain and thunder and wind. Lightning, I'm not so fond of. I was in a tornado once, and saw a mobile home struck by lightning and then get torn into little splinters from the wind. Thanks for the up close view of the streets of New York and the for the formation and sights and sounds of the storm. You're very brave.
Walking with my wife from Brooklyn into downtown. A few sprinkles on the Brooklyn side - FULL on at the 1/2 way point. Scary but fun. Felt like a couple of kids running around. Soaked EVERYTHING. Also the quickest way of clearing the bridge of tourists, selfies and vendors. We had the bridge to ourself.
It's weird...at 10:00 when the stronger drops begin to fall, I could swear I smelled the warm pavement as it reacted to those first cool drops as well as the plastic of the unfurled umbrellas. Summer rainstorms have such a beauty to them-I learned to abide and adore them, growing up on the Gulf coast of Florida.
UPDATE: NO Tornado in Bensonhurst - Most likely straight line winds from a microburst. Location of epicenter is in Bensonhurst Brooklyn - Bay Ridge Parkway to 72nd streets between the 19th to 20th Avenue blocks. From what I saw, all the trees looked to be snapped in one direction. Any homes damaged were by fallen trees. No blown out windows or roof damage. And no trees show damage on the tops. If it were a tornado, it would have went through like a weed wacker. This was most likely a microburst of straight line winds up to 100mph. Will post video tonight or tomorrow morning. Storm Damage Video can be seen here: th-cam.com/video/bAz6QTZAd3g/w-d-xo.html
I remember The Weather Channel was covering this as it rolled in. Pretty impressive. Love the sounds of the city and storm - especially now that I live down in Florida. Thanks for posting!
I always loved the thunderstorns in NYC. I saw some pretty powerful ones from 95 to 08. Watching them roll in was the best. I live in Tucson AZ now which has monsoon but the storms here are mild compared to the ones I saw in New York.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. We've had a few nasty storms here in Mass in the past several weeks with 5 inches of rain in 2 1/2 hours that flooded many area ( particularly Leominster ) and it got very dark out during these storms. This reminded me of them
12:59 In NYC, we ain’t got time to pick up no sign 😂 Who would’ve thunk it. I experienced my worst storms ironically in NYC. Both snow and wind. Lived in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Newark over a span of 2 decades. Moved to South Carolina and been here close to 2 decades as well. Half and half. That storm you captured was pretty mild compared to the tornado that touched down Long Island and Brooklyn in ‘07. I happened to be visiting NYC when it hit. Stuck my head out a 5th floor window not knowing what was happening, why was the sky green- just in time to see a sheetmetal tear off the side of the adjacent building and whizz past my face. Nearly gave myself reconstructive surgery. 😂
I love a good thunderstorm ❤ but I would not like walking around with all of the lightning going on, thanks for the walk I really enjoyed it, I felt like I was with you. Love this❤❤❤ I think my feet got a little wet 😂😂
You don't need a thunderstorm to be in a dangerous situation... crossing the street several times when the light is red, for you as a pedestrian can supply a good amount of danger aswell.
This was amazing. I always figured you needed a car to go chase. Well maybe if had been a tornado but now seeing this I realized if a storm is close you can walk it as long as you can take cover somewhere. I'm 2 hours north of the city but surrounded by trees n woods so there's no great clearing to get a storm moving in. When I go to TN soon I'll definitely be doing this. Thank you for the inspiration.
I remember this day like it was yesterday. This happened to me in my bus route during the afternoon at school in the Bronx and we are caught in it with the rain, my friend side lining behind one of the buildings that it was like close, followed by a loud turn off the boom and then pull out the rest of the bus drop off we got soaked in the rain for me. It looks like I took a shower in a storm. It may look fun But when it comes to thunderstorms like this, you had to take responsibility during a severe storm like this one
It surprises me how people walk around outside while a serious thunderstorm is coming. Like there is about to be some seriously heavy rain people. Get inside!
I’m from Long Island NY but I recently moved to Greensboro North Carolina…..and honestly, I prefer the severe storms in NY better than the south because the house that I grew up in on Long Island….my bedroom was covered by an indoor screened in porch, so whenever it would be super windy….I only felt it if my window was open. As for the thunder…..it would be loud but not super scary, and the rain…..not too bad. The storms here in the south…..always that chance of a tornado popping out.
Excellent video, but it worried a little that you had your very own lightning conductor in the guise of an umbrella! This is not a joke; an umbrella can attract lightning and injure the holder. Please take care old mate.
Not a competition but I used to live in park. S**** on sixty, that's the yet we had a tornado. Come down my street, destroying all the beautiful trees in the park.

I filmed this. All video on this channel is filmed by me. Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
Thunderstorms in the city always sound peaceful, the rain, the thunder and the sounds of the traffic is beautiful music to the ears
👍🏻☔️⛈️
Very nice NYC thunderstorm...Well captured!
👍👍⛈⛈
love it!
I was in Crystal Lake ILL last July and we had one of those midwest super cells. Just incredible rain , wind and constant cloud to ground lightning.
👍👍
Excellent storm from start to finish. Many thanks for sharing my friend ( Gee from England )
👍👍✔ Thank you.
Congratulation on this video getting 50,000 views. That's awesome. Your channel and videos are very cool.

Thats the great thing about rain - it can clear out the crowds for a while and then you end up being the only person out and about.

I could never be that brave. I'd be ducking into the first shelter I could find, even the furniture store
lol
This is super cool! I mostly film driving in the rain but thought about walking in the rain as well. Really nice channel stride warrior!
Thank you!
I wish a happy and a safe life for all the américan citizens.

Great footage! I admire your courage as, walking towards a massive thunderstorm, you raise your steel-tipped umbrella....... :)
👍👍
Beautiful shelf cloud
It’s been a while since I’ve been there, especially through a thunderstorm. Memories! Thanks for the video!
👍🏻👍🏻
Very peaceful. Thank you.
👍👍
Stride Warrior, bravo, well done*********
Great filming thank u for this
👍👍
hi friend, I really liked the video, atmospheric and cool. And what is this model of a video camera?
Thank you. Camera is a DJI Pocket 2.
I always loved the thunderstorns in NYC. I saw some pretty powerful ones from 95 to 08. Watching them roll in was the best. I live in Tucson AZ now which has monsoon but the storms here are mild compared to the ones I saw in New York.
We get some good ones out this way for sure. Thanks. 👍🏻⛈☔

👍👍 Thanks for watching. Hope weather has been better for you.
Considering how green the sky was beforehand, thus turned out to be less violent than I anticipated.
We all had lots of thunderstorms. I live in Canada Canada had lots of it. A part of Canada had a flood Ottawa had a flood today.
The picture link of your video, on my Apple TV, scared me!
At a first glance I thought it was a giant tsunami about to crash the town!

This was a beautiful normal thunderstorm. Nothing extr3me about it

nice shot of the lighting strike..💪

This is making me SO sleepy for no reason 😂 🥱
Thunderstorms are known to help people sleep at night. 😁

That storm looks so nasty!

Carolinas also get hurricanes. Much more lively weather down that way for sure.

👍☂
What camera / phone did you use in the video?
Great video BTW, keep up the good work.
Thank you. Camera I used for this walk was a DJI Pocket 2.
The camera got wet as the storm acted like a mini-sized and weak hurricane.
I saw that too I got hit with the worst winds
✔👍
im a storm chaser as well on long island but i dont upload videos bc im a firefighter on long island i should start uploading again
I would say - Go for it. Thanks for watching.
