    I have fatwood EVERYWHERE in my back yard. It's the easy to gather kind too. It's in typical crotches, placed along the length of completely rotted away Loblolly Pine Trees, and ready to pick right up and use. Let me show you just how concentrated and choice these pieces of fatwood are.
    This is going to be another "No-Knife Fatwood and Ferro Rod Fire" video. The last time (see LINK below) we used a piece of chert for a scraper. This time, I break the bottom off a found beer bottle for my scraper and easily get the job done.
    Come see, follow the LINKS below, and SUBSCRIBE. Thank You!

    Amazing video!! Thank you for cleaning that stuff up . I have seen the trash that people have thrown out all my life . My grandfather's land is near a place that was on a steep hill and there were cars and washer and dryers and enything from houses concrete ! It made me sick . Now its pretty clear because people have found value in the metals. And in the forestry around it .

      I can just see those litterers from 45 years ago when this was supposed to stay a vacant lot, rolling tires, appliances, TVs, etc down this steep hill for the fun of seeing them roll all the way to the creek. I'm sure it was something to behold, but certainly not something to be doing to the land!... someone else's land at that!

      @@DavidWestBgood2ppl yep just like my grandfather's it always kinda scared me as a child to see the cars because I always thought they were wrecked going off the side of that hill . Even though most of them were model A's and T's . Im sorry you have to deal with that . I guess its good exercise. I wish you all the best . Take care and stay safe my friend

    I live in an area of predominately hardwoods, so fatwood is not nearly as prevalent in the woods I frequent unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, I love my hardwoods, but it would be nice if we had a mixture of pines in them here and there. I'm a bit jealous, lol.
    I agree, it's a shame old junk is found everywhere. Bottles, cans, old appliances, you name it, it's bound to be found in far to many places. To many people in the world with no respect for mother nature or others property. It makes me sad.

    • @DavidWestBgood2ppl
      @DavidWestBgood2ppl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They tell me that's how our hardwood forests around here start. Fast growing pines, that allow hardwoods to start and eventually take over the forest. My back yard is proof. The fatwood that you saw today is being pulled from huge pines that are almost completely rotted away with only a few specimens of pines left in this hardwood forest.

    Don't know what state he's in, but I've seen a Real panther running in northern Florida.

    • @DavidWestBgood2ppl
      @DavidWestBgood2ppl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cougar ranges across Western North America, Central and South America. Due to overhunting in the United States, they have been completely extirpated from the east, with the exception of the endangered Florida panther, a subspecies occurring in southern Florida. They were officially deemed extinct in North Carolina in 2011 and are believed to have gone extinct as early as the 1930’s.
      Despite their extirpation from the east, there are hundreds of reports each year to state and federal wildlife agencies of cougar and black panther sightings. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says that most sightings turn out to be bobcats, but also bears, deer, domestic cats, or dogs. Still, many people remain unconvinced and claim to have seen the species dash across the road at night and even to have had face-to-face encounters.

    To heck with Fatwood, you have pounds and pounds of Punkwood in your backyard. It looks like you have enough fire starting material to last a hundred years.

    Does cedar produce fatwood in a similar way to pine? Spruce?

    I wish I had really available to me instead of having to rely on other people to send me large fatwood blocks to make fatwood chips for others.

      This is the Loblolly Pine too. It was grown specifically for its pitch for the turpentine industry.

    Why throw back the mayo jar?
    And then break glass in your own yard?
    I always love to your videos, I've learned a lot, but that was just weird to me.

      LOL! Every time I skip through a video then ask a question, it's already been addressed. Like it was in this one. I the beginning of this video I'm 100' away from the house down a steep grade that nobody ever uses. I mentioned that for 40 years people from near and far have been using this land as a dumping ground. I'm slowly getting it cleaned up. The few shards that I brushed off into the leaves and the mayo jar that I threw back are nothing compared to the 100s of bottles that already need to be cleaned up along with tires, TV's, rolls of cloth and plastic, appliances , etc.
