On the topic of exporting the app file, editing directly, then re-importing... Anton recommended saving a copy of the SQL as it was exported, which is an excellent tip. But if you neglected to do that, and realized your mistake quickly, you can get a copy of your app from the Apex Export Repository, via App Builder->Export->Export Repository (under Tasks, on the right panel).
