Agreed. Every day while in VA we scoffed at the notion that it was flat. As well we used to call it the “VA views” not the “blues”. One of our favorite states as well!!
Great video! I love Virginia and I can’t wait to be on the trail there! Wish I could have been granted the time off to be on the foothills trail this week! I sure do hope you all are enjoying it🥰 Merry Christmas and a very blessed New Year to you and your family ❤️🎄🎉
Enjoyed meeting you and Leo at the EOD Foothills Trail with Fresh Ground! Got several great tips the night before from Mona, MeganB and you the night before it started at Cheohee. I had to bail at 16.5 miles due to soaked gear and sore muscles, but the majority did bail at 20 miles so i didnt think i did too bad for a 62 yo. Hope to see you and leo again someday on trail. ~Jimni
When I told friends that I am hiking the AT they asked…aren’t you afraid of bears? No. Aren’t you afraid of snakes? No. Then I said I just hate ticks. What I’m afraid of is not hiking the AT. I don’t want to grow old with regrets.
For decades I thought I wanted to hike the AT until I discovered TH-cam some years ago and it made it seem like a crowded night club. To me, a nightmare! Especially any story involving sleeping in the shelters, ugh! But aren't there stretches where you are REQUIRED to use the shelters? Can't just sling a hammock any ol' place? Thanks!
I agree. Virginia is beutiful and not flat at all. I hiked half of the AT this year from Amicalola to Harpers Ferry and saw 10 bears, all of them in Virginia. Some of the shelters and hostels were crowded. But it is as you say possible to be alone by camping along the trail between the shelters. In the Smokey Mountains you are only allowed to camp by the shelters.
Yes! This video is awesome. Thanks for putting it together 🙌🏻 What video editing app do you use? Wanting to break away from iMovie but overwhelmed by the options!
Michael, I followed your through hike and I noticed you carried a Motorola defy on your through hike I believe. Could you give me a short review on it? Did it work out for you? I have one and was planning to take it with me.
@patriciabush7082 Thankfully, I never had to use it. The AT has enough traffic. I wouldn't even carry anything. But for some sections like Smokies and Whites, I could see the need. I kept it because it's the cheapest option for an emergency.
Being in shape before u go shouldn't be under estimated, only 25% of people that attempt it, finish. Plan for altitude rise/fall of 3000-4000 feet per day. It takes 1600 stair steps to go up 1000 feet, this is the best exercise to get ready for Appalachian Trail. I do double steps using bottom two stair steps for 1000 steps everyday
🚶🐕🦺👟👟⛺🌞 thanks for another awesome video of myth busted hope you Leo and the family we're doing great and had a great Christmas take care stay safe and happy hiking 💯💪🏆🏆🏆
Decent content and thank you for putting this up, but the stupid "bussteeeeeddddd" comments with shaking screen earned this a thumbs-down from me. Sorry... I live in VA just off the A.T. and I've worked with a fair amount of thru-hitters... I don't think I've ever heard the myth that Virginia is flat, but I'm sure it's out there. As you said, it is nothing of the sort. Thanks for everything else! Keep it up!
I'm glad you finished the trail but in no way did that make you a pro Hiker to give advice when zi hiked the trail I went and did the MST and spoke learned I was not s pro after 24000 miles later it just does not matter
Absolutely brilliant episode man! You put so much effort into this episode! Huge congratulations 👏👏👏
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
That picture on your table is awesome! 😉.
Love the myth busters!!
@galejones5870 thank you!

It is a beautiful state.

@@jsweevil It was great meeting you as well! Go out on the AT this year and kill it!
@@ISuckatHiking Will do! ❤️

@@michaelstudelska5607 there you go!
The crowd myth was good to find out about. I go out to find some solitude, if I want to socialize I go to the pub 😄
You can be alone

@asmith7876 Only in the Smokies and the Whites, you will spend a lot of time alone
❤❤❤❤❤ thank you
You’re welcome!
Nice video. Looking forward to to your Foothills video.😊❤
Made a change of plans this year
great stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it!

I have an editor, but when I edit, I use powerdirector
@ Thanks! You know you’ve made it when…🤣 bravo Michael!!
Brother I agree with all 5!
Thanks
Hej Michael!
It looks like the bandage is off and hope all is better now.
Enjoyed the video.

Thanks doing well

I’m mostly concerned about being able to text in areas that I don’t have service.
@patriciabush7082 I wouldn't recommend it for that. However, there's a lot of cell coverage on the AT.
Ok. That’s what I needed to know. Thanks
And there are trail angels in Virginia!! 😉
Yes there are!

Do you consider the 100MW wilder than the Smokies with the Smokies having only 1 Extraction/ Bailout point?
@artmercer7465 i think the smokies was a little cooler. Both are amazing.

Glad you didn’t bust the myth of Bigfoot being real. I still want to believe. 😂
I will allow it 😆
👍
Thanks
🚶🐕🦺👟👟⛺🌞 PS what about the Sasquatch do they try to steal your beef jerky while you sleep😂
Only in my dreams
No, but there are plenty of rodents that will try that 😂

I am not a pro, but I have learned a lot! I am in the woods monthly and remain teachable. These myths are things I was told before I hiked the AT.
@ISuckatHiking we learn so much as we go that's why I stay out here good video though
Thanks
