Dachshunds are the best dogs in the world. Smart, loving, amusing, amazing and great with kids. Once you own a Dachshund you will never have a different dog.
I had a little daschund named Snugs, she was a short hair miniature Daschund with black and brown fur. She was a rescue and was put down near the end of summer 2021, but during her life she was a brave little pup. I remember when someone was peaking through a window in my house, she was barking like crazy with the fur raised on the top her back and back of her neck, she was warning me and my older brother. If it wasn’t for her, we would have likely had a break in. I still miss her, but I’m happy knowing she isn’t in pain anymore.
One night my dachshund did not return from her evening walk. A half hour later I heard barking at a distance and went to investigate. My ferocious girl had treed two raccoons and had them terrified. One year I had moles in my front yard and she dug up every mole trail until the yard looked like a WWI battlefield and they were all killed.
Our Dackel broke out multiple times. They are really good at digging their way out into freedom or squeezing through obstacles or even climbing/jumping over them. Once on their way they don't miss their pack. Ours was tagged and brought back from a town 60km away from our home after 3 days. On one of this journeys the dog broke into a chicken barn in the neighbourhood and killed all 12 Chicken in there. This doestn't occour regularly but it seems, that they have phases in their lifes, where they switch modes to total rampage.
They were not bred to kill badgers. Dachshunds were bred to trace badgers and chase them out of their den with their loud barking, so that the hunter can shoot them. Badgers are heavier and stronger than dachshunds, but terribly afraid of loud noises.
Dachshunds are the best. Such a fun breed of dog. Taking them on hikes is endless entertainment, they're like tiny mountain goats. They'll find a way to get up anything.

She wa's stubborn and very playfull ...always around when we need somebody to talk to!! Stubborn. My mini dachshund will totally ignore me when he is on a scent trail. But that is is only bad trait. I love my little nut mutt. He has so much personality and is pure joy to be around.

Buddy my miniature was bought for me to encourage me to get up & out as I got a few health conditions one being my mental health (UEBC OR BPD) One of my issues is my back & although I did get up and walk him I had a couple of slip discs so had a operation but mentally he’s like a magic to me & although he drives me nuts with he’s funny ways I love him to bits ❤😂❤
Our dog is a dachshund mix, but his demeanor and personality is all dachshund. He is loving and snuggly to a fault, hyper-vigilant as a watchdog, and loves to burrow into blankets and comforters. He’s just 60 lbs and has long legs. But otherwise he’s all doxie.
I've had two dachshunds my 14-year-old just passed, and now I have a 14 week old puppy. Between me and my wife we've had four, they are amazing dogs, and I'm a little surprised they are considered most aggressive of any breed, but not shocked, they can definitely be that for sure, mostly against other dogs I've found. And the fact that they are extremely stubborn doesn't help that much, but I wouldn't own any other breed.
I think almost all of the dachsies you will see are miniatures. I met a full-sized one once, and it was very much bigger than the minis we always had. It was more the size of a basset hound, about 40 pounds.

My family had one when I was a kid and he was fearless and that wasn’t always good. Some people moved into a house less than a half mile away and their German Shepherd came into our yard and he attacked it but it wasn’t long until the shepherd started winning. I grabbed a rake and started to swing at it and he ran away. My doxie was able to fend him off for about two minutes and he was completely unscathed. Luckily this only happened once.
Same here my boy Leo has anxiety in public places. But here at the house, will run towards any strange noises and front door with no fear and snarling like he's a big dog. I love my boy, so brave and loyal when it counts.
Another fact, dachshunds have the largest teeth of any dog breed relative to their size! Pretty hard to drag an angry badger out of a den without chompers to grip them appropriately
I have Never ever seen a German butcher with a dachshund😂. In fact, there are some types of dogs called butchersdogs (Metzgershund), these are a breed called Rottweiler, big, beefy dogs.

Here in Brazil doxies were used to hunt big cats. My doxie (Max) killed plenty of birds, lizards and he found two kittens that I'm taking care of. And all doxies I had, (I had Max's dad, he passed away at 15) like to check on us. They constantly just go in a room, see if you are ok and leave to go about their wiener business. And they are also obsessed at sleeping next to us, they are not up do cuddling all of the time, but they love sleeping in the same room.
I have 4. Mom, dad, son, and daughter. Please take it seriously when they talk about jumping off furniture and dealing with their weight. I just spent $9,000 at an emergency hospital to repair the dads back.
I believe it...., my childhood pet was a Sheltie....lived to be 22 years old....fathered his last litter at age 17. Little wonder dog. Later I had 3 Silkies...lived to be 16..15..and 13. I have fond memories of them all.

Stubborn? No, mostly SMART! They were bred to do what they do best - hunt badgers on scent. They are doing what nature intended.
I’ve had 3 doxies over the years as a companion to my Doberman’s. Truth be known they are just as brave as their bigger brothers.🤠

Yes; please always help your doxie get up and down steps or other higher spots - it's safer to pick them up, to avoid disc problems.

I use a laser pointer on the wall and watch my dachshund go into full on predator mode. He also will hunt mice like a cat.

In my experience, the black minis are less aggressive and territorial than the light brown (reddish brown) ones.
