So... He is saying that northern Cyprus should join the EU... But Greek Cypriots who are EU citizens will still not be allowed to return to their homes and fields in the north... How would that work?
When it comes to land and oil, the Turkish approach is "what is mine is mine, what is yours is ours". There is no incentive for the Greeks to agree to this.

The Republic of Cyprus which includes the entire landmass of the island of Cyprus is part of the EU. The northern part of Cyprus is occupied by a foreign country and because of this status quo the EU law is suspended there.
Turkish Cypriots should actively pressure Turkey to allow them to return to the Republic (as agreed in 1959), so they can enjoy full EU benefits, and to avoid being completely replaced by native Anatolian settlers within a generation or two.

@@alashiya9536 The indigenous Greek speaking people of Cyprus were impregnated by illegal settlers from Greece under the British from 1878. The EU broke it's own rule of not allowing a divided country as a member after the Turkish Cypriots voted yes for a reunion under the 2004 referendum on the Anan plan and the Greek Cypriots said no. EU law is not suspended either and EU standards are implemented in the TRNC.

I watched enough of documentaries and you Greek Cypriots were not innocent bystanders in the least either. You wanted to absorb Cyprus into the Greek state and the Turkish Cypriots were discriminated against like the Greeks in Istanbul who went through a pogrom in the 50s.
In my opinion Cyprus should’ve remained under British rule because it was a better system, just like Yugoslavian State was better than the mess we now have.

Yes there were incidents between the two communities mainly fueled by outsiders like Turkey which had played its geopolitical game in the Eastern Mediterranean as evidence has clearly shown over the last 50 years, and even more today.

Some interesting points. But didn’t mention the facts.
1 - Turkey invaded twice. The second invasion happened after the coup collapsed. So there was no need for the second invasion as the status quo had been re-instated.
2 - The whole of Cyprus is in the EU not just the free areas. He talks about the Greeks as being a separate state. All Cypriots are represented by the Republic of Cyprus. With 1000,s of Turkish speaking Cypriots claiming their ID cards, passports and some even living in the free areas.
3 - His idea of a Turkish Cypriot state is an area we’re limited Greek speaking Cypriots can live. This goes against all European laws on the rights of Europeans to live and own property anywhere in the EU.
4 - As a property owner in the occupied areas. I am forbidden from enjoying my property. They claim that my land and house has been forcibly exchanged. This goes against every fundamental human right law. We’re as all Turkish speaking Cypriots have the right to re-claim their property in the free areas.
He didn’t address any of these issues

As someone who has lived in Cyprus since 1982 I would actually be inclined to agree with a lot of what Mr. Tatar says BUT what he fails to remember is that there was 2 phases to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus - the first. Which could have been somehow justified as it came against the backdrop of a Greek Cypriot coup against the legitimate leader of the Republic of Cyprus at the time - archbishop Makarios AND there was an obvious danger to the Turkish minority on the island as Greek nationalists now held power. However, once the dust had settled and an agreement was in reach the Turks pulled out and put into action the second Phase of the invasion which was in blatant breach of international law. One can also assume that this had been in the plans for a long time. The Turkish minority and (Denktash) always favoured Taksim - 2 separate chucks of the island for the 2 communities and this is what they forced. Let's not even mention the shipping in of 100,000's of mainland Turks to change the ethnic makeup asap following the invasion. Hence the "Republic of Northern Cyprus" has no place in the international community.

    • @ismailhassan7165
      @ismailhassan7165 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Maybe you should consider that the Greek Cypriots and Eoka were still killing Turkish Cypriots after "the dust settled". All Turkish enclaves were under siege and under attack and that ended on August 16 1974, after the second phase. Maybe explore the reasons for the 2nd phase more before you make such statements. The Turkish Cypriots had no part in the Greek coup and the Greek invasion on 15 July 1974 but they came under attack. You suggest that Turkiye should have sat back and watched a genocide taking place. I lost relatives during the time between 15 July and 16 August, murdered, not victims of any war.

The Republic of Turkey is the invader and occupying power. They forcibly removed the native Greek Speaking Cypriot population, preventing them from rightfully returning, they forced Turkish Cypriots to relocate to the area under occupation, turkey transfered it own population (settler colonialists) to change the demographics. People have forgotten that Cyprus was rented to the British by the Ottomans and that at one point Greece, Turkey and England had signed a treaty. However, when the treaty was violated and it was enforced at one point that Cyprus should be joined with Greece, the Turkish Cypriot minority had found themselves part of a civil war between those that wanted Cyprus to be united with Greece and those that didn't. Bülent Ecevit visited England to ask for help. As always, England turned their noses and Turkey who had signed the Treaty too intervened to stop the bloodshed. The UN may not recognise the northern part, which consists of many Turkish Cypriots who left their homes from Larnaca and Limassol, but they know how to benefit from the beaches here and live comfortably doing nothing! He is right! It is not fair and Turkish Cypriots have been isolated for more than 50 years. The more Turkish Cypriots are isolated, the more chance there is you will be dealing with Israel soon because they are buying the land as part of another mission. Believe me, Cypriots can see this happening and that is also another reason why international laws do not want us united. Whether you recognise us or not, Turkish Cypriots exist and have done since 1500s. An EU stamp means nothing. We exist!

Yeah right.. A peace operation that is ongoing for 50 years! At the time, Turkey was one of three guarantor powers for the constitution of the Republic of Cyprus. If any they only had the right to take action only to reestablish the constitution being threaten by a coup.. All the war crimes that took place since not only shout invasion but also their barbaric nature against a small island. Turkey took over cyprus for them selves, holding both Greek and Turkish Cypriots as hostages for Turkeys geopolitical interests..

    1. The claim that Turkey acted legitimately as a guarantor power is bogus since upon their “intervention” they never restored constitutional order and returned the legitimate President to power. In fact they never even suggested such an eventuality.
    2. The co-founding of the republic had a clear statement of proportionality contained therein. Mr Tatar chooses to ignore that element and substitutes proportionality with numeric equality.
    3. Mr Tatar did not provide an answer as to what the “TRNC” would be prepared to give in exchange for recognition. Basically it appears that he “wants it all”.
    4. Mr Tatar’s population calculations are astonishing and bizarre, ignoring the reality of large numbers of Turkish citizens who have been brought over to inhabit the empty properties of the evicted Greek Cypriots.
    5. Yes we did have Enosis in 1974. It was Enosis (Union) of part of Cyprus with Turkey. Mr Tatar’s puppet state, with Turkish currency, the presence of a huge Turkish army, massive Turkish subsidies is all but in name part of Turkey.

In 2004, a referendum was held for a two-state federative country under UN control, to which the Greeks said no and the Turks said yes. In other words, it was the Greek Cypriots who did not want a solution, not the Turks. What needs to be done now is for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to be recognized by other states. Northern Cyprus has shown great development, especially in the last 10 years, despite the embargoes. By announcing that it will open a naval base in Southern Cyprus, it has accepted the fact that Southern and Northern Cyprus are separate countries. Since Turkey is a guarantor state in the order and treaty which Greece insists on, it is necessary to obtain permission from Turkey before such a declaration of building anything of strategic importance. Stating that they would not obtain it, they recognized and accepted the existence of Northern Cyprus and that the two are separate countries. Greece also conveyed its statements as it would be built in Southern Cyprus, that is, Greece stated that Southern Cyprus is a different country. Simple is that.

In fact Turkey even requested the United Kingdom to join them in the military intervention...as much as people want to claim it was an invasion, legally it far from it according to the conventions agreed upon.

On the other hand, can you explain why on 12/6/1958 the British dropped a bus load of Greek Cypriots outside the village of Gionelli and they were all butchered with knives and axes? Can you explain why as soon as the Republic was born Turkey was sending over ships loaded with weapons, the Deniz being one of them. No one was punnished. Can you explain why as soon as the Republic was born a number of so called teachers came over from Turky, who all happened to have just left the military. Can you explain why Denktash had a couple of Mosques blown up or why two Turkish Cypriot Journalists were killed after they threatened to expose who gave the order. Can you explain the killing of Kavasoglou, (the killers are known) after he gave a speach as the the tactics used by Denktash and his ilk to foster division? All killings, no mattr who perpetuated them are a crime against humanity but the killings are not one sided. Firstly, it wasn't an "invasion" but a legitimate military intervention under rights granted by an international treaty following the Greek invasion of Cyprus that aimed to annex the island to Greece. Secondly, the United Nations has never explicitly declared Turkey's 1974 military intervention in Cyprus, which brought peace to the island, as "illegal".
