RLS is definitely underrated! He's far more than just a children's author, and in fact I'd say even his so called children's books like Treausre Island and Kidnapped aren't really children's books but perfectly well suited for adults too. He's one of my favorite writers. 😊
Treasure Island was the first book I read by myself. It was summer reading after 4th grade as part of my overcoming dyslexia. A half hour in the hammock each day in 1966.
I love Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde. I couldn't take to the Black Arrow so much, but it was on audio. No one ever seems to mention The Master of Ballantrae. Such an underrated gem of a novel.
I read Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for the first time this victober and I LOVED it. It found it to be so sad (which is a compliment!). If a book can make me sigh with grief it's a winner lol. It, and War of the Worlds were my top two reads this month -though WotW did not induce a grief sigh- it was just a blast (no pun intended) to read.
Happy Halloween Steve! Not going to lie, I have a hard time wanting to dig into books such as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde due to the amount of renditions those kinds of books have been made into, kind of like "Does the book really have more to offer?" Anywho, been viewing your videos for quite a long while now but haven't started commenting till recently. Have a good rest of your night Mr. Steve Donoghue!
Beautiful Dumas editions in the back, i heard you talk about this translation recently. Definitely on my wishlist. I read twenty years after in this edition is only the first half of the original book, can you confirm that?

I love Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Just reread Treasure Island this year and what a great ride! I share your enthusiasm and love for RLS.

Dr J & Mr H is extraordinary but Kidnapped is most fun.
