How to Read and Test Your Commercial Water Meter
1. Locate the Meter: Find the commercial water meter, it should be a concrete box marked "water", located on the property.
2. Read the Meter: Check the numbers shown on the meter. If you flip the lid open and shut you can switch between the total water used, and the current flow. Most meters show cubic feet or gallons used.
3. Verify the Meter is Yours: Don't forget to make sure the water meter is yours, you can verify by checking the serial number on the meter and making sure it matches your bill.
4. Test the Meter: To test your water meter, you'll want to begin with making sure anything that uses water is turned off.
5. Detect Leaks: If the flow indicator moves while all water is supposedly off, it may indicate a leak.
6. Test Flow Indicator: Turn on a faucet to start water flow. Check the meter's flow indicator; if it starts moving, water is running, indicating your system is functioning.
