Definitely important to ride different horses! Even if you own or lease your own horse, still try to ride others sometimes. I rode the same horse all summer, and then he left my barn in November. When I was put on another horse, I ride it just like the old horse. I fell through a fence that day because the horse I was on was a very different ride from my old ride. Moral of the story is adapt to which horse your riding, don’t ride them all the same. Also, tip for nervousness is sing a song in your head, it helps. 💗
The horse i used to part board she getting older shes like 23 years old so she going to younger riders and people who dont know how to jump or canter then she will be retiring and im going to be riding a new horse
I took your advice I'm alot calmer now. In November I started lessons on a pony called Scooby but he was a bit much for me to handle because I was just starting off. One day I went and he was having an off day so I rode another horse called Alaska and I feel alot more comfortable with him. Thanks for the advice!
Been riding on and off for nearly 15 years. Still get nervous when I ride for my trainer or at a show. The advice I can give. Ride happy. Always smile, even if it's a bad ride. Always enjoy the time spent with your horse rather than focus on what could go wrong. If you can sit back and enjoy the ride rather then worry about the people watching you, the silly mistakes you make, or the place you'll get. You'd be surprised on how much that calms your anxiety. Just go into it for the fun of things!
I understand how hard it is to calm down but EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THIS ENTIRE EARTH MESSES UP!! they are not going to make fun of you! Just enjoy what you are doing!
Very true, even if you hate the horse, you learn something from every horse. If you're just riding experienced school masters, you won't learn anything
Jasmine Goertler I agree it’s taken years for me to take his advice just remember it’s not about how you place it’s about how your ride was the judge doesn’t know how far you have come they only know what they see and a lot of times it’s the 100k horse next to you
Thanks Claire, I am an intermediate rider and this video is really helpful since I don't lease or own a horse as well as my normal hour lessons, three times week do not run over the 6 week holiday in Australia. It has been torture, you, jeteventing and this esme have carried me through the tough 6 week period where I can't see or be near ANY horses, I can't even go out and pat or bond with them it is TORTURE!! 😭 Thanks for the awesome videos and carrying me through this hell hole without any horses!! thank you for this motivational video claire :) i got my horse in november and we are still figuring things out with him. sometimes i get really upset or nervous because he's naughty and i just want to have easy rides instead of having to keep him from bucking and swerving every second. hes just so unpredictable, and it's hard for me. i hope he can get better because he's so sweet but he's so naughty.
(I know I’m veryyy late) I agree on ride different horses when I was a “beginner”/ novice rider my instructor put me on a sassy chestnut mare, quiet gelding, pony’s and so many different horses and they all taught me different things especially patience.
The other day my horse bolted and jumped over polls not intentionally😂 but I knew jumping positions thankfully, and I learned a lot from that. And it was a new horse😁
@@maddiemarcisz874 you have to trust yourself and the horse the horse to feel fear and will react of that fear, just relax and calm you will get there x
Your advice is excellent. I don’t own a horse, but I’m leasing one this year and it’s a lot like owning! But she’s the only horse I ride and now I wonder whether I should ask my trainer about riding other horses too... Anyway, thanks for the good tips!
Great tips! Especially about competing, for any sport I feel like sooo many people are just focused on winning and being the best. That is always the first thing I get asked when people learn I horseback ride, but honestly doing a show is fun, but I tend to have much more fun just in a lesson, you don’t have to worry about nerves or winning, you can just ride. :) Also another tip I would bring up is about self-confidence, I have been riding for over 15 years and the one thing I always see-no matter what discipline I do or what barn I am at-and it is probably the number one reason why I have seen so many beginner riders quit, is because of a lack of confidence. And it normally always occurs after a fall or after an almost fall where the horse spooked, as soon as that happens soooo many riders get scared and quit. But to all riders, don’t let fear stop you from doing something you love! Just a few months ago I had a bad fall, bad enough to break my leg in two places and having to have nails, plates, and screws installed in it. I still love horses and riding and want to get back to it as soon as possible, now most falls barely injure you, except for maybe having a sore back. Don’t let one fall where you have a 90% chance of not being seriously injured keep you from riding and living your dream. :) If I am crazy enough to ride after this accident, then so can you! XD
I looked for this because i'm starting horseback riding tomorrow and i'm so excited! I love horses and they are my favorite type of animal. this helped out a lot! thanks!
Great advice! Rode first horse today. Trainer rode another and stayed with me. Was an amazing experience and now I'm hooked. Luckily in my free time I do Alot of work there, so it's all free of charge. Never touched a horse 5 weeks ago, now riding trails. Horses are such amazing animals.
After being amazed by the majestic horses at a near by ranch, I am going to start learning riding with a professional. Came across your video while searching and this tip talk has given me very good initial tips. Going to see your other videos and will surely learn a lot. Thanks Claire!
I’m never nervous and I just started! I love getting on the horse, it just makes me so excited! The only thing that was a little uncomfortable was getting used to everyone at my barn, and learning about tacking and the routine.
I love watching tip videos because in the summer I will start being trained by a very good friend who is 21 or 22, and I’m so scared of horses so these videos make me feel a bit more confident because then I know what not to do, and what to do. The horse that I’m gonna ride is relaxed most of the time so these will probably help me. But of course I’ll mess up a few times but I enjoy these
I always looked at the horse but now I look at the jump this help me soo much thanks you are the best teacher I love your channel I just got my first horse and I rode 13 different horses so ya love you and your horse
This was helpful! I’ve been riding for a little over a year, but I’m certainly not very good at it and I was starting to get discouraged, but after watching this video I feel a lot more motivated to try harder!
Hey, I know this video is a year or more old but... I’ve been riding on and off for 3 years and I’ve only jumped once. I get nervous while mounting the horse, I feel like I’ll fall over the other side. This anxiety I feel has literally stopped me from doing a lesson or two before. But once I’m in the saddle, I’m perfectly fine. I love horses, they are amazing animals. Personally I prefer working around the stables (eg: mucking out, tacking up/un-tacking, cleaning tack, helping out in beginner lessons.) I found a stable with a lesson 3 times a week of literally everything i mentioned! I’m happy now because I get to be around horses and not feel worried. When the time is right I will hopefully be able to get back on a horse. (if anyone has any tips for fear or mounting a horse @ me please hahaha) thank you for these tips becuase they will really help a lot of people.
I have always wanted to do Horseback Riding for almost my whole life. Next week my dream is coming true. Thank you for this advice Claire! I will definitely use it!
I know I’m late to this video. But this really really helped! Yesterday was my 2nd class and I’m still very nervous, and while I was riding I was very tense and basically told my horse to run (which I haven’t learned about yet) and I was terrified but my horse eventually calmed down. But this video now helped me realize what happened, and sadly I blamed it on the horse, now I know what I did wrong. Thank you so much!
I'm starting lessons this Saturday and there is this horse there and his name is caspian and he is sooo sweet! I was going to ride him but he is the owners horse 😭
sarahcoral80 123 you won't regret it! Just don't think about getting a horse too early. Once you're really good at riding and have had some practice with owning one (leasing and/or lessons about it) you can start thinking!
OMG it was one of the smartest videos I ever saw! If I'm about to pick one moment, when I knew you are a great rider and person - that would be this video. Love you and your art❤️
I went to my friends horse back riding birthday and I was so nervous to get on the horse lol. Every time it moved one step I would panic and be so stiff. After a minute I got used to it though. I just had a bunch of negative thoughts like your going to fall or the horse is ganna start running and you break your arm. But it’s not bad after a while. I’m going to join the club with my friend and I’m excited
Although I am not a beginner rider, this is still useful for us other equestrians who might not know much about their horse/pony. Also, your horse has a completely different mind to yours so if you are jumping and the horse suddenly gallops/fast canters up to the jump, you HAVE to go with the horses rhythm or else the horse/pony will stop to refuse the jump if you stop. Anyone can ride a horse, you just need to know how to do it safely.
Thank you so much for this video I am taking horse lessons and my parents want me to get on the horse and this video made me feel more ready to get on the horse thank you so much
I was riding for 4 years but i took 2 years off because of panick attacks and difficulties so this is really helpful i have my first lesson back tomorrow ❣
I love this video so so much (and all you other ones!) i have always looked for a video just like this and never found one. I am so happy you posted this today as I am riding tomorrow and plan to use lots of these tips tomorrow!
It’s better to ride horses who are more difficult, because you learn more by doing this. I live in Illinois so it’s a very cold winter and all of the horses at my stable and very girthy and spooked just because of the cold. I just started in the fall and my friend said to wait till the summer when the horses are super relaxed. Also my horse is always in season but that’s how I learn, and it works 😄
I try to ride different horses, I used to ride a horse that canters bumpy, and now I ride one horse. I ask my trainer to ride others but she says I'm not ready :/ but I love the horse I ride now, she is a 7 year old Connemara gray :)
I had my first lesson today it was amazing! I rode a beautiful pony called Pluto and I loved it I love trotting so much I can’t wait for my next lesson. But I don’t have a pony yet but this video is so helpful I can’t wait till my next lesson on Pluto and then I’ll ask Jane to try a new pony! I can’t wait
I’m starting riding lessons soon but I probably will only be doing 2 a month, all of the stables near me are VERY pricey. They have a 6 lessons for the price of 5 for new riders, all private also. So more one on one for learning which is awesome! I’m so excited to start riding I’ve wanted to for a long time :3
Thank you !! I'm a beginner rider. My teacher says I'm doing very well. Very helpful video!! I survived an unexpected jump lol Silly horse thought it was a good idea to try and jump the pole instead of walking over lol Super fun and exciting.
I don't have a horse and i only ride on saturdays, 1 time a week, and i can't have more lessons, because is to expensive, so i can't practice too much ;-; I'm a beginer rider, btw
Maria Clara Santos Oliveira keep at it! I know the feeling, I used to only ride once a week at a riding school, but if you keep practising and work really hard each lesson, you’ll get there! I was so determined that my Dad eventually saw how good I had gotten and let me share a horse! So stay positive 😊
Actually one time I was riding on a horse that had been in a stable all week because she had an injured leg, so she had a TON of energy. But they still put me on her for that lesson. First thing I noticed was she kept trying to over take the horses in front in a ride, next she started to canter during the trot then she’d go back to trot then canter again, then finally when I tried a canter she bucked 3 times (luckily I stayed on) and then tried to gallop out of the school but she didn’t. Then finally she bucked me off, but that hasn’t put me off since I know not every horse will be like that! :))
I don’t often get to be around horses, I have only touched a horse once and since then I’ve wanted to start horse riding. I should be starting riding lessons a week tomorrow, can’t wait. Just trying to look for some tips before I go so I have some idea what I’m doing.
I love this video. I’m starting horseback riding in a week and I’m super excited 😆 this is my second time in my life riding a horse without someone holding the lead rope . Wish me luck😂 I’m doing hunter jumper but my trainer said I can’t jump yet Love ya
gahhh thank uuu i have two shows this weekend & this actually really helped! i do IEA so i always get really nervous since it’s a horse i’ve never been on but this video helped a ton!
I’d love to ride different horses but I go to a jumping barn and all the horses are two advanced for me now there’s only 2 I can ride but I’m trying to work really hard with my trainer to get to that advance so I can ride a lot more horses ♥️♥️
Great tips! Not a beginner, but in my 20 years of riding, the absolute best way to learn is to ride as many horses as possible! Ask your trainer if you can ride a different horse for every lesson. After some time, you will be able to ride almost any horse and have a good "tool box" of knowledge on what to do on most horses. Eventually, the most difficult horses will be your favorite! 😉 And don't be worried about falling off, it will happen, and it's ok if you do.
You can self learn to an extent I think, if you know someone who rides they can help you a bit and honestly that’s how it was for me and I learned from my mistakes and by listening to my horse and we are so close and we respect each other so you can definitely be self taught.
I've got lessons coming up because u inspired me and I've loved horses for as long as I can remember I've order 3 jumpers from your merch (yay) can u do a video on what u need for your first lessons and the best clothing to wear and suitable hair styles lots of love. 🥀❤️😍
The first tip/advice was great, but as a person with anxiety, I hear the words "don't worry, don't freak out, don't get nervous, etc." pretty much everyday. And what do I do? Freak out. Not trying to hate in any way, I've been a long time subscriber and I still am. But I think putting it in different words will help, like "stay calm and your horse will be calm. " Great video, thanks for the tips! ☺
. I am technically not a beginner rider because I have rode horses since I was 4. And I know how to trot i know how to gallop. But I nearly never ride a horse. Cus until not long ago mom and dad said I could begin with lessons. Before now I have rode at Alegria it is a hotel and barn where they do western riding. I have rode there cus the owner is 1. A friend of dad 2. His hotel is in dads hotel group. So I get to ride for free. But since dad lives in another country and I live with mom I only get to ride 2 times a year. So I kinda learn a lot again every time. But they finally said yes and now we are looking into it! And I am super happy about it!
I’ve been riding about 1 and half a year , twice a week and im still trying to find a way to calm myself,, i was about to start to learning canter in lunge line but i got nervous and couldn’t do it,, only a couple times correctly.. i know if i do more cantering i’ll get used to the pace and all,, videos like these really helps me! :) Now im still improving my sitting and rising trot, diagonal etc. I know i’ll eventually get there if i stay calm and improve myself Soo yeah :D (sorry for my bad english)
i recently just had a lesson and I was jumping. I went over the jump and the horse had a full belly of grass and she is a black horse on a really hot day so I completely get why she was playing up. we would be cantering fine and she does a body flip to get you off and she puts A LOT of power into it so I fell it wasn't to bad but I have a few scratches on my back. the jumps were decently high jumps and we were doing double jumps. she did the first one fine but the second she flat out did a gallop the fasters I had ever seen her do and she did the body twist I completely came of the saddle and landed on my head . everything went blue and green from where I almost passed out and I still have concussion now it been a week and I have never wanted to get back on a horse this much in my life.
Hi claire, i’m an intermediate walk trot canter rider, but not fully confident jumping or even cantering on some horses. I went to france horse riding, doing beginner cross country but tbh i was getting bored on these hacks because i was wandering around with others that had never ridden a horse before. My dad then put me into an advanced hack, which was a big mistake. I rode a horse called caffiene, who was small but very unruly. he kept bucking and rearing which was making me lose my confidence cantering with him. then, we had to GALLOP. Which i’d never done before, and i was terrified. He bolted and pushed through the line because I didnt know how to sit in gallop properly, and i was probably over-pulling his reigns. then we went back into the forest and we began trotting down a hill ! ofc horses HATE this and at the bottom he threw me off! 😭 he bolted but got caught. i got bruises and scrapes and landed very hard on my back but i got back on for the last bit. Ive lost alot if confidence, but i know a lot about horses and i understand them and know that it wasn’t the horses fault, but i was way out of my confort zone! any tips to build back confidence
Great video, even for people who aren't beginners❤ I take lessons twice a week, and on the one day my horse (pony) never behaves. But the other day he behaves perfectly. Can someone help me? Because he doesn't behave and starts to buck and then I get a bit scared although I've fallen of a dozen of times.
Jaime Heller I have the same problem but different 😂 So, the pony I loan is a school pony as well but when I don't ride him, the next lesson he has, he will just turn in corners and be naughty. But when I do ride him, he is an angel? Someone help 😂
@@freyaaa2 It's probably just because you're a better rider than the others who ride him. Even though I've been riding for four years, i still ride a "beginner horse", because when only beginners ride her she learns that she only has to do things to a very low standard. When you put a beginner on her, she'll plod around at a snail's pace, maybe even trot if you get out a lunge whip, but she's bomb proof and won't take off. If someone like me who is more experienced rides her, she can collect, leg yield, sidepass and jump. That's probably why the pony you ride cuts in for other people, but is perfect for you. It just depends on the rider's attitude.
I can’t practise very much since I don’t have my own horse, I just go to a riding stables. Also I’m kind of nervous to switch horses, I’m riding an Irish cob right now and yeah
can you do a video on how to not be embarrassed when people are watching you ride and or doing something that toy didn't know how to do at the stables?
Hey! I can help you with this, im just scrolling through these videos for fun, but im not a professional. For the trot, its a 2 beated gait, and you will find that everytime you sit in the trot, u rise. So, when your riding, take that impulse from the bounce and stand with the outside leg- then sit back down as soon as his/her leg goes down. I learned this from 0 to 100!, you will get the hang of this! :)

I’m only watching this cause I want to be smart when I go to my friends to ride. Bc she has horses and said that I could come over anytime and ride!😁

OMG it was one of the smartest videos I ever saw! If I'm about to pick one moment, when I knew you are a great rider and person - that would be this video. Love you and your art❤️
I'm starting lessons in April. And I'm the type to get more excited with this kind of stuff then nervous so thats a plus for me
I had my first lesson today I wish I watched this before I went but it was fantastic
Thx for the help I'm getting a horses its really help full thx
Thank's for giving me the notification in time *dry and sarcastic*
Love you Claire!
I already knew most of this stuff but for other beginners this is so helpful, you really make sure that it’s clear, luv your vids❤️
I love this video so so much (and all you other ones!) i have always looked for a video just like this and never found one. I am so happy you posted this today as I am riding tomorrow and plan to use lots of these tips tomorrow!
Thanks for this, I don’t have a horse but I’m really into them and I want one soo bad! And hopefully I will get one someday, again, thank you :)
I can’t wait
nice! i wouldn’t buy a horse too soon though. maybe after 3-5 years of riding
not a beginner but love claire and u can always learn new things so i watch anyway❤🐴😁
do you have a pony yourself?
Boudica Collins technically he is a horse but yes, he is my profile pic
OTTB BANDIT31 how do you have that many subs without any content?? Xx
sharmaine Hill i dont have any subs
+OTTB BANDIT31 sorry im asking so much but what's his name?😂
First like and comment! This is a really helpful video for beginners! Love you claire. xxx
I don't have a horse and i only ride on saturdays, 1 time a week, and i can't have more lessons, because is to expensive, so i can't practice too much ;-;
I'm a beginer rider, btw
Maria Clara Santos Oliveira keep at it! I know the feeling, I used to only ride once a week at a riding school, but if you keep practising and work really hard each lesson, you’ll get there! I was so determined that my Dad eventually saw how good I had gotten and let me share a horse! So stay positive 😊
I’m in the same spot, i get lessons once in a while because it’s expensive but when I get the money i use it for lessons
Only? I can’t afford any riding lessons at all. Once a week is a lot... be grateful that you can ride at all.
Same im starting tomorrow ik u said this a year ago but im rlly nervous😅
@@krystal7456 Awwh! I know this is late, too, but what's your horses name? (Even if it's not yours yours) Hope it went well!
every horse i’ve ridden has had a different feeling trot, hard at first but once you get in the rhythm it’s easier
been riding for 7 years, eventing for four years *clicks anyways* because its claire eventing!! aha
I know one of my faults is clenching my reins when I ask for a canter.. my Iberian warmblood is a sweetheart and is a huge babysitter..
Your intro is Goals!! Love ur videos!! ❤️🐴🐎🐎🐎
I'm going back to horse riding on Sunday and the video really helped just to remember 🐴🐎🐴🐎🐴🐎🐴🐎
im a begginer horse rider and these were very good tips so tank you
Thank you so much for these tips! I am a beginner and I want to be a show jumper!
I love this video. I’m starting horseback riding in a week and I’m super excited 😆 this is my second time in my life riding a horse without someone holding the lead rope . Wish me luck😂 I’m doing hunter jumper but my trainer said I can’t jump yet
Love ya
OMG you hair is amazing in this video
This was so helpful!! Especially since I just started jumping!! Thanks, Claire!
Annd...yet another great video Claire!!
i know you learn more from riding different horses, but i really like the horse in riding right now 😬
Your so pretty!!! Thanks for the video!!! Very helpful as I'm a beginner/intermediate.
gahhh thank uuu i have two shows this weekend & this actually really helped! i do IEA so i always get really nervous since it’s a horse i’ve never been on but this video helped a ton!
Thank you! This helped me so much and encouraged me to go on and try harder.💖💖💖💖
Thank you for this! I'm getting into horse riding and I'm a beginner!
Oh my gosh! My parents have that exact same dresser/mirror!
This was very helpful and very good tips p.s I just got your merch and i love and I love yah
You can self learn to an extent I think, if you know someone who rides they can help you a bit and honestly that’s how it was for me and I learned from my mistakes and by listening to my horse and we are so close and we respect each other so you can definitely be self taught.
Hey Claire! Best video EVER!!!!
I've never had a lesson! but i hope to start going to them but i have to haul my pony
he bolted but got caught. i got bruises and scrapes and landed very hard on my back but i got back on for the last bit.
Ive lost alot if confidence, but i know a lot about horses and i understand them and know that it wasn’t the horses fault, but i was way out of my confort zone!
any tips to build back confidence
Great video, even for people who aren't beginners❤
I take lessons twice a week, and on the one day my horse (pony) never behaves. But the other day he behaves perfectly. Can someone help me? Because he doesn't behave and starts to buck and then I get a bit scared although I've fallen of a dozen of times.
Ride him more
Kirsten Sanford problem is it's difficult as he's not my own and he's a school horse. So I only ride him twice a week
Thank you for this! I'm heading to my first lesson.
I can’t practise very much since I don’t have my own horse, I just go to a riding stables. Also I’m kind of nervous to switch horses, I’m riding an Irish cob right now and yeah
I love Claire she's so positive and helped me alot! ❤❤❤
can you do a video on how to not be embarrassed when people are watching you ride and or doing something that toy didn't know how to do at the stables?
This was an amazing video! I'm not a beginner but I still watched anyway!
Omg I love you and your videos so much Claire! ❤️
Do you have any tips on posting the trot I’ve been riding for 4 months and I can’t get the hang of it 😫
My shorkie Named niko when I took lessons I rly struggled with it too!!
Im watching these videos because yesterday I had my first horseback riding lesson, and I got an Appaloosa horse named Cookie.
Great tips!
They helped me a lot!!!👍
