    Takes me back to my glitch-obsessed 20's around the turn of the millennium, listening to Pansonic on repeat. Part of me hopes glitch makes a comeback, and part of me hopes to keep it as a private discovery away from the prying eyes of Gen Z'ers looking for new gems in old classics.

      Oh my, my then class pal Pietu introduced me to Mille Plateaux, Raster Noton.. in the early -00's. We'd smoke a spliff and listen to the albums he ordered... Curd Duca, Jan Jelinek, Andreas Tilliander, Pole, SND... amazing stuff! And they had features like Ruyichi Sakamoto R.I.P. on the albums! Small step for a man, a giant leap in Sound. We had glitch core on 2020-2021 but it was more of a fad

      I’m 15 and I really love this type of music. But I get what you’re saying, a lot of people my age can be pretty annoying when it comes to “discovering” older art/music.
      I’m trying to learn how to make electronic music myself and I think being able to dig for older and more interesting underground styles like glitch, dub techno, etc. has been really inspiring.

      This, my friend, is one of the exemplary releases that came out of a focus in some electronic music underground scenes with glitches and “microsound.” The sound is having a little resurgence right now. Maybe bc of the way that covid quarantine has us all feeling this weird mix of edgy/cozy in ways that echo the pre-Millenium tension that fomented this early-aughts glitch movement. The link I posted does a good job summing up this label’s output and the various lines of thought that accompanied this approach to sound/composition.

      @brokenupbeat ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ prolly, lol

    • @J43rv1
      @J43rv1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@midilyfestyle having a little resurgence? who is copying the glitch/micro sound nowadays? I think this is some of the coolest, avantgarde music of all time. Right when computers were capable enough to really produce sounds that were wholly different from anything else before it. I keep coming back to this era because of its ingenuity and almost mysticism - I do not know of any current trends that come close to what these people were doing in the early 00's

    • @midilyfestyle
      @midilyfestyle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@J43rv1 i feel like the energy is largely in the hobbyist and ambient scenes (which are somewhat connected). Modular synthesists never really left this sound, and now there are tons of digital modules that let people do the kind of audio mulching that glitch artists we’re doing with Max/MSP. It’s not from this year, but I’m thinking of Evan Caminiti’s 2019 release on Make Noise Records. That release is done entirely on modular synthesizer IIRC, and sounds very early aughts glitch. I also recommend you check out web shop boomkat.com. They’re a focused shop that specializes in avant- electronic and you should be able to learn many artist and album names there :)
