  • When was the last time you checked your wooden arrows for straightness?
    Have you ever done it?
Do you construct your own wooden arrows?
Depending on the answers to those questions this video may be able to help you out. I show how to use an arrow spinner to pinpoint bends in a shaft and how to use an arrow roller to correct those bends.
As mentioned in this video, there is a lot of "learning by doing" when it comes to this task but its is not a black art. If you follow a few simple steps it is well within your capabilities.
As you gain experience and knowledge you will move beyond the simple steps Ive outlined in the video and develope the skills needed to make any shaft straight!
Toward the end of the video I touch briefly on how to assemble the RHA Spinner. I hope you dont mind me taking the opportunity to showcase a couple of new products that I am very proud of :)

Thank you for this video. I had 9 arrows that were bent in every direction and couldn’t get them straight. I just ran down to the shed and tried this technique on 2 of them and perfect. Will do the others later today.

Thanks, Kev. This is very useful. I'll watch it again a couple of times and then send for the kit. I think it will pay for itself quickly.

Great video! I don't have a roller so I try and straighten in my hand, and yes the first times I tried that I snapped an arrow :D
The masking tape tip is really good and I will start using that! Thanks!

Would be useful to test the arrows right after the straightening to see if it stays.

Great vid Kevin! What are your thoughts on straightening ash shafts? I’d like to try shooting ash shafts but I have heard that one may need to use heat in straightening them.

Hi m8, Yes they will almost certainly need heat. Harder woods like ash and hickory tend to spring back to their original (bent) shape of some heat isnt used to soften the fibres slightly prior to straightening. Ive even had one or two set of cedar shafts where Ive used heat to help the process along as they were too "springy" to do cold straightening.
You can use an open fire, heat gun etc to get heat into the wood. The ideal solution imo is a heatbox a bit like a mini version of a bowyers heatbow. Might be a step too far for most hobby builders though.
