    Fine trick visually but it's hardly going to fool professionals making it a weird choice for Fool Us. I think if you're going to do this trick, you need to find a way to simulate going through the hoop while flying. The way they did the hoop, he landed right as the hoop was brought over his head, so it was possible to slacken the line, and then he went back through the hoop in a pretty obvious way. I'm just some guy and even on a single viewing it was clear to me exactly how they did it, so for P&T this is beyond child's play.

    • @BK-hq7tn
      @BK-hq7tn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@manusoftar I can tell you don't know much about magic. You're judging what a "really professional magician" is or "world do" based on what Copperfield (literally one of the riches men in the world) has done. You have no real practical knowledge on this other than what you have seen Copperfield do. And not only that, You don't even know how Copperfield's apparatus works. In order for wires to be invisible there is anything but "cheap" machinery here. And this routine is created for having ONE assistant. Which means he can do this on a lower budget cruise ship show, with is about 100 times better than anything else those budgets of shows would have.

      The Copperfield flying technique, which Willi Auerbach is using, is very different from the standard Peter Pan "kid on a wire" effect. Copperfield's solution is much more sophisticated and graceful, allowing the performer to do a wide range of movements in flight. And it includes several "proof" moments, such as the hoops demonstrated here. The Copperfield rig remains the world's best live flying effect as far as I know. (And it's patented, so I'm surprised that Willi was allowed to perform it. He may have arranged a license with Copperfield and co.)

    • @KanalFrump
      @KanalFrump 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Sure. Putting on the Copperfield clip was a bit unkind but also kind of fair - this act lacked refinement and aesthetics and it was a "gentle nudge" to up their game or GTFO. It just seems strange to even let on this duo with their off-stage video act, it seems to break every rule of the show format.

    • @oktomcat
      @oktomcat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I agree. Copperfield had two rings going around him while this couple only used one ring and she did not put the ring over him until after he landed. Something I caught right away. It may seem cruel and unkind to show Copperfield's flying trick but magicians must realize that you do have to step up their act. It is tough because there is nothing new under the sun and therefore a magician has to add more complications to their act. This couple did have a good show though and I did like that.

      Its a system whereby a clear nylon monofilament on each side of his body extends out from a body harness and attach to a tracking system on the ceiling. Background and lighting are key elements to this trick as the nylons must remain invisible to the audience. David Copperfield was the first magician to perform this illusion. The system was patented at the time and the patent has since expired allowing others to use it. You will notice that when he steps into his assistants ring, she has to back track after reaching his body length because the nylons prevent the ring from going any further.

      @@Xbangsplot exactly. The prover using the hoop was actually worse than not using one at all the way they did it. He stepped into the hoop, she raised it barely over his head and stopped at the harness. Also most of these guys design their own illusions, that fit their style. If you really think about what's behind all these illusions, these are real pros, not people who just bought something off of Walmart dot com and started a show. This is why practically all stage shows have in the act a few close up pieces just to make sure the audience remembers that.

    Willie, you are braver than I am. I weigh 240lbs / 109kg, and I don't think I could do it. It looks a lot like Copperfield. I would like to have seen more "proof", like Copperfield did with the rotating rings around him while he was levitated to show he wasn't suspended. Very nice show, and you and your wife are a lovely couple. All good wishes.

  • @pihi42

    I was really waiting for some twist to happen, something wonderful that would even have a chance of fooling Penn and Teller, but all we got was that amateurish ring and perhaps front-to back wire transfer. A far cry from the legendary Copperfield walking upside down in a fish tank. I still remember my disappointment when as a child I first saw the "levitation" illusion at a local stage performance .. it was a platform badly obscured by some hanging clothes .. plus I was just standing too close. From there, I never got to experience the awe of "flying illusion" without instantly getting disillusioned .. except perhaps the Copperfield one - but that was on TV . It just goes to show that flying is hard. And that makes me that much of a bigger fan of SpaceX.

    It's a really cool act. They did it really well. His shirt was pulled by the wire a couple of times when he was flying on his stomach. You can see it coming up to a point on his back. But other than that it was a great routine. Not sure why you would pick this one though to try and fool them. But nonetheless it was really cool. I'd love to see someone do a variation of this but where it would fool even magicians and people that know how it works. Hasn't been done yet.

    Flying magic tricks always cool to see, but even though you can't see the wires, the effect is obvious done with wires. The only advantage with doing it on a screen, is the potential to pre-record the trick, then using wire removal tools, to erase any wires that might show in the act.

The real magic is that he was able to find freaking thin enough and strong enough wires plus combine them with a flying system. Although there are about 5 systems for flying (mostly flying cameras in stadiums and TV studios), I've been searching the world for a thin yet strong enough wire that could hold me and still no result. THAT is the real magic he did and I applaud for that!

      First of all I had to lol. It’s me again.
      Yes a old trick but for most it’s a 20 year old trick.
      I like to keep secrets a secret myself.
      The vast majority are old tricks with a twist and it does bring new life to them.
      But I love the unknown the ah moment of knowing I can make this work.
      Although much has went to the high tech side of things and I’m ok with that to a point.
      Sadly many now can get online and type secret revealed. Many think by posting there pushing many to come up with new tricks. I’m a 50/50 on that one.
      On stage it’s all how you present yourself.
      Even the oldest tricks can be the fun if you pull it off correctly. Add laughter and that’s something in today’s world we could all use.
      I was at a old haunt a few months back and a few were working on Covid acts.
      More of a funny act of here it is and now it’s not. Great working skit. No joke 2 week later he got Covid.
      Time have changed for sure

    • @mikek3951
      @mikek3951 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jamie . W
      Agree. People need to get out. There’s nothing like a live show.
      I talk to a lot of people and younger people not all but most have this idea they can see and do much more by doing x amount online.
      Last girl I talked to said.
      I’ll save $125 and the madness of a show. Watch online I see if for free from home in my PJ’s
      The world has changed. It happened to music. Concerts were always the big thing. Now for $10 a month you can listen to any song from any artist on apple.
      It took my years to show my daughters life is so much more outside the front doors of our home.
      When I grew up life was 1 way. Then computers showed up. I got into hacking.
      Seemed fun at the time. After about 2 years I looked at my stepdad and said.
      Although computers will help us all they also will be the death of many things.
      And looking back now. It is so true.
      I tell people just because you can figure a trick out doesn’t mean a live show is bad.
      In the moment it’s exciting and your brain is going I bet this way or that way. Your talking to your friends saying I bet he did it like this or that.
      It’s funny growing up I always wanted to get out of the house. Stay out after dark.
      3 tv stations. A phone with a cord and a rubix cube. Lol
      I wanted to get out and live life and explore.
      Fast forward. Kids today sit in rooms with there phones and are happy.
      And I know several parents who let there kids do this all the time and don’t see issues or say it’s better then running the streets. Lol
      The internet is very dangerous

    • @mikek3951
      @mikek3951 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jamie . W
      Agree with that one.
      When I used to hack the things back then were shocking. The things I listed prior comment. But even back then you could see how it would get so much worse. I remember thinking. A child predator will get to pick his prey from his desk. Criminals will find states with crappy laws. Finding people will be way to easy.
      It was a endless list of bad things.
      You’d think schools would be very private with kids info. Oh HELL NO.
      It’s all bad.
      People really have no clue how much of there lives they don’t control.
      They fell for it hook line and sinker.
      And they might admit it but they end with saying. It’s not like I have a choice it’s everywhere.
      2 years ago the family took a trip. Rented a cabin from a Friend. Middle of no where.
      10 days of pure freedom. No cell phones. No tv.
      We did have power. Solar and batteries.
      1st 3 days my girls were ready to end it all. lol. After that they loved it.
      When we got home my oldest says.
      Dad when you were younger you had 3 tv stations to watch. Only so much news.
      Now we can find out anything from anywhere with phone or cable.
      She realizes now how our freedom is taken up and let’s say controlled to a point
