For the first time ever, the House has voted to impeach a Cabinet member. After failing on its first try last week, the Republican-led House voted Tuesday to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the Biden administration's handling of the U.S.-Mexico border. This comes as Congress continues to debate packaging hard-line immigration measures with foreign military aid. "The sad reality is that the politics of immigration policy have really taken over in Congress," says law professor César Cuauhtémoc García Hernández, who discusses the Democrats' "dead-end strategy" of trying to "out-tough the Republican Party when it comes to immigration policy." He also discusses his new book, Welcome the Wretched: In Defense of the "Criminal Alien", which makes the case for not deporting undocumented immigrants even if they commit a crime. "I want immigration law to reflect the reality of the humans that it is supposed to serve."

The United States was created in a problematic way, and today it is in the same situation. American arrogance has put you in a bad situation and I think there is no chance of recovery and the collapse of the country is inevitable and the war you are planning and which you will lose will be the final collapse, hopefully without a civil war to follow. The problem lies in people who do not wish good for their people because they are insensitive and without moral values. It is true that such people rule both the European Union and the collective West.

Immigration reform would be great and we should work on bills for that. Border security is different. We already have laws to keep the Border secure and the Biden admin is ignoring them to let people in. More laws on the Border just means more laws Biden and Mayorkas will ignore.

Desperate people will work for less and more people going after fewer jobs means labor is weaker and people can be exploited. We can't even pass a small tax on billionaires to take care of our sick and homeless.
There are also people in countries like Guatemala and Honduras who are terrorizing and exploiting their own neighbors, often with the support of agents of the US military who are themselves unaccountable for their actions.

Who wants to take care of the homeless? I see them running ads such as "clean up" the homeless crisis. People don't care about them. I saw huge homeless encampments right here in L.A. that were just swept up. No solution was offered. People dislike them more than ever and don't want them in their neighborhoods. Nobody wants to help them. This only comes up when people want to use them as an excuse for their xenophobia. We had homeless here decades ago already. It's based on other issues and not migrants.

@@luperamos7307 unfortunately it is true and sad for both parties. Democracy Now! and some of those writing here probably praise themselves being marxist yet they forget about Marx's theory of exploitation, which stated that overcrowded nineteenth century English cities were great for capitalists as they didn't have to compete for labour, it's labour who was competing for employment and it is till this day. Do you think people who don't speak English and work jobs who no one would want to do are happy doing that? Surely it's sad they have to or they think they have to because they came to the land of milk and honey but unfortunately they make the wages of everyone go down as well as conditions of work. For everyone. I am not saying that they are the only problem. They are used by people who hire them like in Marx's times but the truth that where is too many people there is not enough work or space is live is unfortunately true.

You missed my point which I made in my 2 comments that this situation of people constantly coming to do these jobs is bad for them as well and bad for the locals and only good for the bosses who can keep the status quo: pay minimum or less, give zero benefits and safety precautions which also means that those of us employed legally are expected to feel grateful that we actually have those

Anytime I hear the issue of immigration arise, I wait for someone to mention one of the root causes - sanctions. We talk about allowing people to come because they’re escaping terrible circumstances and on the other side of the debate people discuss blocking people from coming in because they feel it decreases employment opportunities in the US and government aid to Americans. But never the reason people are coming in the first place. Sanctions have a big impact on these countries. The US has meddled in foreign politics, wars, and economies for so long and to such an extent that people are literally fleeing their homes and coming here. Instead of finding a solution to the side effect of the problem, why does no one focus on the cause of the problem. Maybe our country shouldn’t be pouring money into solutions to bring people in or keep people out but allocating that same dollar amount to correcting the issues in those countries. I could be wrong, but I think removing sanctions would be a start.

People from more than 100 countries have illegally crossed our border. The US is not imposing 'sanctions' upon that many countries. Just because there aren't outright sanctions in all those countries doesn't mean that American foreign policy doesn't have an outsized effect on those countries. Those sanctions are giant warnings to other countries that say: "don't you dare create any laws that cross an American corporation in favour of your citizens or your country will also be branded as communist and see the same sanctions as Venezuela and Cuba." Why can't we have a conversation about immigration and what we as US citizens want?
It seems like we don't ever discuss it in town halls, real debates about it.
We also don't discuss the cost benefits of immigration versus adding people to our over burdened Medicare and Medicaid systems.
I think we should understand it more and as a country vote for what we want and not leave it to the politicians, who seem to not be able to do anything , ever discuss it , and have not been able to for 20 years . I don't even understand what each political party wants and I think it's reasonable to have secure borders . I think the conversation needs a bigger broader debate. It's really shouldn't be up to just these polarized extremes who refuse to listen to the " others" position.
I'm older, I lived in California and Arizona most of my life. I have very mixed feelings myself, as do I think many Americans , but the public conversation is always absent. Why is there this big polarity of extremes?
Compassion is important for suffering but so are legal and financial boundaries .We don't even contribute to our poorest people here , our low income children, to our elderly . We have no open waitlists for low income housing for our seniors across the US , people who have worked their entire lives to pay into social security and 6 out of 10 seniors live below the poverty level.
    It is a messy conversation.

Each individual immigrant/asylum seeker-whether from Latin America, Haiti, the Middle East or Africa-is more welcome, deserving of citizenship, and would contribute more to the U.S. than 1,000 of the right wing, xenophobic, white power racists currently engaged in destroying the U.S..

There are days when I wake up in Joe's America I hardly recognize. I never thought I’d see….
Cities ignore the law under the label of "Sanctuary Cities," then complain when illegal aliens are sent there.
Government officials conspiring with Big Tech to censor millions of Americans online.
The Federal government human trafficking over 10,000,000 illegal aliens. Thanks Barry!
A President who took deliberate actions to eliminate the southern border weaker.
Congress and the media labeling a protest as an “insurrection” while calling actual riots, “peaceful protests.”
The American people turning a blind eye to a President who clearly is suffering from dementia and pretending that everything is all right.
The intentional weaponization of the Federal Government against a vast swath of the American people.
The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs stating that he would inform China if we opted to take military action against them.
Our public schools being turned into indoctrination centers by Barry and the democrats
Being told there are more than two sexes and that we had to agree to that or be ostracized.
Left extremists threatening the lives of Supreme Court justices.
The democrat FBI actively creating and taking part in crimes in order to make arrests.
Schools arguing to make XXX material available to minors in their libraries.
The government and the democrat party attempt to take out an opposition candidate by charging him with trumped up crimes and civil action.
The Labor Department fudging the numbers about unemployment claims and jobs on a monthly basis, only to quietly fix them later.
Parents wanting to ensure their children’s education being targeted as, “domestic terrorists.”
Sissy men competing as women in sports as something that is acceptable.
Governments trying to ban gas stoves, regulate air conditioners, and ban wood-fired ovens.
Students taking out loans then demanding that they not have to pay the money back.
Our military spending hours not training for war, but training on diversity and rooting out extremists.
Mobs robbing stores because they know they won’t be arrested; and stores having to lock up items they sell out of fear of being robbed.
Disney turning its back on family-centric content in favor of XXX material that offends its largest customer base.
Where democrats can question election results with no ramifications, but anyone else is labeled a conspiracy theorist.
Democrat officials picking and choosing what laws they will follow and which ones they will ignore.
Americans still afraid of the Chinese Wuhan virus four years after its outbreak.
Joe and Barry making citizens choose between being forced to take a shot of vaccine or losing their careers.
Our democrat government monitoring words used in the banking system to spy on us.
An unarmed white protester murdered in the Capitol and the black officer involved is promoted rather than brought to trial.
The President declaring that the Constitution is fluid and subject to political interpretation.
The ships of the U.S. Navy rusting.
Chinese spy balloons flying across the U.S. and the democrat government trying to hide that from us.
Hunter's Cocaine discovered in the White House and no one is charged.
The democrat President of the United States clearly having sold his position to profit his son and other members of the family.
People getting worthless college degrees and blaming everyone else that they can’t find a job.
Illegal aliens being treated better than veterans.
A government official in charge of nuclear material being arrested for stealing luggage and women’s dresses.
Terrorists attack a staunch ally and members of Congress openly side with the terrorists.
The most patriotic leader in the country coming from South Africa… Elon Musk.
The Department of Justice state that the President willfully took and distributed classified material but won’t be charged because he is senile and has poor memory.
Hunter snorting coke through a century note at Joe's oval desk..
If this is Joe's Build Back Better I’d like a refund and a recount.

But do not emigrate to Chile or the United States, Brazil, Canada, Peru and Mexico, those countries have many problems to migrate to countries like Uruguay, Paraguay, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, Suriname, Costa Rica and Panama.
