Heeeeyyyyy thanks so much for the shout out and kind words. While it's kind of lame to say nice things back, I'll have you know 3 of your songs are on my Top of 2019 Spotify playlist! Sorry to miss your show, I'll be flying out of LA the morning of :( Please record and upload if you're up for it
I’m a big fan of the gear-centered channels, but it’s also kind of refreshing to see reviews from an actual working musician. Nothing quite like getting to the heart of the matter when you have limited time and space and you actually have to use this stuff to earn a living.
This is my favorite gear review of yours yet. I love the combination of nerding out on hardware, deconstructing your setup, and then the music theory. Great work!
Lately I use the pyramid with digitone. It makes the workflow really quick. If you set up a template so you can easily switch between the four tracks on the digitone, it becomes really intuitive and more like a gigantic glorified looper.
Good stuff. If you haven’t tried it yet, you can power the Pyramid from the Poly 2 host port and sequence your modular from the USB channel, freeing up the physical midi ports for other gear.
Hello. That's exactly how I use the Pyramid. Also, by using the assignable CVs on the Poly 2, I can have a sort of preset set up with the Pyramid saving CCs, lfos, and automation. This turns it into the Poly Preset module. Anyhoo love your vids and happy new year
I was thinking more like a head being absorbed by my girlfriend's grandmother's loveseat. Great content here btw, your channel is becoming one of my faves, subscribed.
Undiscovered Colours was the song that made me interesting in music production. I SO wanted to recreate those stutter effect drums, I was like 16 years old I think. Still haven't found a good way yo create such effects... : /
You also got some Polyend gear earlier this year, I think, including the Polyend Seq .. do you have a preference between the two - the Pyramid and Seq? In terms of features, the Pyramid is probably the easy winner, but what about ease of use? Thanks, great video as always.
Hey Benn, Talked to you once for a second at the Black Cherry in Toledo! Anyhow, loving the channel! Could you please break down what you’re doing on the Pyramid to get it to generatively play your custom chords? Thank you.
i love that generative song thingie! But I must be a little dumb. I don't get how you get the Pyramid to play random chords and notes. Anyone patient enough to enlighten me? Thanks :)
He provides some explanation at 12:15. It appears that he is selecting some chords that are all part of the same scale and assigning them to the Squarp Pyramid. What he didn't say and I suspect is the case is that he used the Euclidean sequencer on the Pyramid and cycled between different patterns to create a sequence that is unpredictable ... I'm just guessing. Loopop has a good overview of the Pyramid.
"I didn't hear any sirens last night" meanwhile I encountered four cop cars screaming by and a circling copter with the search light on, which is an absolute rarity here, last night.... Ben are you omnipotent?
unique video! you mentioned using it with Analog Four - i know Elektron is well known for their sequencer. What kinds of things does Pyramid do for A4 to b eathe new life into it?
I've been using an Akai MPC60ii, 2000xl and 3x Kenton dual-midi-cv converters over the last 30yrs, - only been working in the laptop for the last 4yrs. Hardware sequencing is much easier IMO. DAWs, and computers, can spit out way too much irrelevant information, - although Logic is pretty reliable...
I didn't understand the jazzy song setup. How did you make it play through those chords randomly? Or did you setup a chord progression and have the melody randomized?
Hey man, I love the idea of this device but only have one synth (Nord stage 3) and drum machine (Roland tr8s). As this device records midi data only, surely this would limit me to only one custom patch on my Nord and Tr8s? Because if I change sounds etc on my synth this would effect the other recorded midi data right? I want one but feel like it's too early if it can only sequence one patch at a time.
I GOT A SEQUENCER LAST YEAR AND IT CAME WITH ABLETON I DID ABOUT 3 SONGS WITH IT..ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. ITS INTERESTING BUT I LIKE REAL INSTRAMENT LIKE GTR BASS OR SYNTH. IF I WANT TO EDIT MY BRAIN OUT ITS FINE. BUT. IVE LEARNED MORE FROM MY NEUTRON OR KORG. THERES SOMETHING MORE EXPLICIT WHEN YOU PROGRAM AND PERFORM EVERYTHING.
Good review Benn...those last couple of missing functions are quite important..even my Beatstep Pro does them. So you ...didn't go for the Hermod ?not because of ext gear..but because you're too damn greedy on HP..?
Oh and check out the Philippe Saisse Keyscape video ( th-cam.com/video/GLZfKZ8PUE4/w-d-xo.html ). Holy crap does this dude remind me of you(specifically the chords)! Would kill for a video with you just jamming on the piano for a while.

Aww thank you! Let's get Red Lobster or whatever there is to eat near NAMM. 😁
Benn and Gear would love to! Added you on Instagram or just email me using the address on my channel
@@loopop Other people's dreams: riches and bitches
My dreams: lobster and gear talk with Benn and loopop

Quickly becoming my favorite gear personality.
Same here ... after being also my favorite music personality. ❤️
Why is that ?
Okay seeing the process of you deciding what scales go into your sequences is really cool. Thank you for sharing!
That piano melody is absolutely beautiful! I could listen for hours
Had no idea this was The Flashbulb lol the track ‘Cycles’ has been a fav of mine for years
Lately I use the pyramid with digitone. It makes the workflow really quick. If you set up a template so you can easily switch between the four tracks on the digitone, it becomes really intuitive and more like a gigantic glorified looper.
I can hear loopop blushing from all the way over here!
Great show, as always!
God damn, I wish people made small talk by talking about sequencers. So much less awkward than normal small talk.
Very fun and enjoyable to watch/listen to. You do a really good job with your channel and content. Thanks for sharing!
Just saw your testimonial on the polyend Tracker page. Hope you end up doing a video about it soon.
I just subscribed for the intro jokes, needed that LOL!
Seriously, dude. Your videos brighten up my day. Every. Single. F-ing. Time. Please keep it up! More videos! MORE! Happy new decade Benn :)
that scale is called Lydian flat seven scale. In Slovak folklore music also called "podhalanska" scale.
thanks for the soothing melodies as always, benn ♥!
I love loopop for reviews that are exhaustive, but what he doesn't have is practical use cases, that's where you come in. Also love your review style.
By acoustic you mean Lydian Dominant?
1 2 3 #4 5 6 b7. It's a mode of melodic minor and you'd think it has melodic minor?
LOVE your sounds!! Channelling Thomas Dolby....
Good stuff. If you haven’t tried it yet, you can power the Pyramid from the Poly 2 host port and sequence your modular from the USB channel, freeing up the physical midi ports for other gear.
this guy is brutally underrated

"you might be a little spoiled". Most of us are drooling over that room
woah, woah, this vid is great! I never knew bout this synth either. Great music friend! 🤙
I'm swimming up the learning curve now too 😁
Thank you for these videos, awesome gear
Say What?! Your videos are waaaay more entertaining! Remember that
Love it -you replaced the wine bar piano player with ai -love it!!!
Love what Squarp is doing. Can’t wait to see what that Rample device they’ve been teasing is
It'll have some content from me on it. :)
Benn and Gear ah nice!
How cool is that, making a sequencer play a piano and do some sophesticated stuff too!

Dang that was awesome
Could you do a review on this versus the new MK3 version?
One green screen away from being a floating head on a flower print tablecloth.

It is SO powerful
Super awesome jams. Which album/EP of yours would you say sounds the most like the first/second song in this video? I’d love to hear more like that.
Not sure if you were being serious during the piano part naming all the chords haha or were you taking the piss haha. Rad video!
man I would like a more in depth demonstration of building the generative sequence on the player piano
"I didn't hear any sirens last night" meanwhile I encountered four cop cars screaming by and a circling copter with the search light on, which is an absolute rarity here, last night.... Ben are you omnipotent?
cool stuff bro really good time ok
does the "Cirklon" offer more features and flexibilities?
Thanks for inspiration!!! 🙏🏻
lovely, very impressive!
unique video! you mentioned using it with Analog Four - i know Elektron is well known for their sequencer. What kinds of things does Pyramid do for A4 to b eathe new life into it?
Amazing!
Great video. Wondered what do you make of the deepmind?
Is that piano the one used on "Compositions for Piano"?
I've been using an Akai MPC60ii, 2000xl and 3x Kenton dual-midi-cv converters over the last 30yrs, - only been working in the laptop for the last 4yrs. Hardware sequencing is much easier IMO. This vs the ndlr vs the torso. Thoughts?
4:50 sounds like the hyper light drifter soundtrack
Awsome video! What's your eurorack case?
Hi. Very interesting. Is this a new Pyramid iteration? I have a pyramid and it hasn’t those black pads... Best Regards /Mack
It's a new look, but the same hardware.
OOF on the NAMM show plug.

Big fan of your music and videos. How do you feel about the deep mind?
bro can you like release that first track or something like it please because oh my goodness it was very nice to say the least
do a video on the A4 before you sell it. Might also breath new life into it ;)
excellent video and sound as always!
that sounds great benn, thanks for this video
the ai composition at the end is very nice
Spaceship pilot @4:30
How are you handling portamento with the Pyramid?
let me know if you end up selling your analog four! excellent content as usual here

Woah what is the name of that module with the fade colors, looks sick!
@Patch & Noodle Yes! Thanks alot!
Ahh, you said 'toothed' comb, not toothcomb. I love you for that.
Curious to know why your Pyramid looks different from mine and all others I've seen? Different screen, different buttons, different text.
The version is mk3
love to see the www.ucapps.de/midibox_seq.html reviewed.
Damn, that was pretty.
You're level of awkwardness is intense, and deep.
I love your shirt and how it matches your beard.
Korhan Erel - It’s actually part of his beard.
Good review Benn...those last couple of missing functions are quite important..even my Beatstep Pro does them. So you ...didn't go for the Hermod ?not because of ext gear..but because you're too damn greedy on HP..?
OK now do that with that the diskliavier and polyend perc kick snare and ride and crack another bottle and chill
i sure that one is gone
this freaked me the FUCK out
whats a dawless? are you a dawless? which one is a dawless?
Oh and check out the Philippe Saisse Keyscape video ( th-cam.com/video/GLZfKZ8PUE4/w-d-xo.html ). Holy crap does this dude remind me of you(specifically the chords)! Would kill for a video with you just jamming on the piano for a while.
SQUART
My name is not Frank.
New goal...find a shirt like that. Shit and you’re not even British. Looks better buttoned up. You have convinced me to buy a pyramid.
I can’t hear you over the sound of my drool splashing all over the knobby goodnesses behind you.
No worries I’ll clean up after
