Incredible film. Beyond all expectations not only the music, not only because it’s Django, but the musicians, the children, the quality of the filmmaking including the colorization. This is a true archival gem deserves tremendous recognition in the hall of great music

They still sounded like the old swing, simple, melodic, nice and easy. Then, the style only got worse and worse. It turned into a competition of who plays faster and plays more notes per second.

Exactly. Fortunately, we recently have guys like Duved Dunayevsky who have the devotion, humility, AND tasteful chops to put respect for the music and melody first.
@@revertnicolas5977 It's a matter of playing real swing or something else... Django was inspired by the great american jazz. Djangophiles nowadays barely listen to django, they are into birelli, rosenbergs, etc...
@@jitterbugzombies6441 Music is in constant evolution and so is jazz. We are not in the 50's anymore... What is for you "real swing" ?
@@revertnicolas5977 Swing music goes from 1930's to 1940's. 1950's is when Bebop starts. Of course music is in constant Evolution, but in most cases in constant Devolution. Just listen to the melodic solos Django recorded, full of great ideas, harmonic clarity, and authenticity. Copying one musician only leads to music degradation.

The entourage/audience of Manouche-Romani children is a major delight here -- especially their "air" rhythm-guitar playing!!

pour répondre à la question de quelqu'un qui demandait la marque des guitares de jazz électriques, il s'agit du modèle "Royal" fabriquée par le Frères Jacobacci.. à la fin du film, il est mis en valeur le talent de soliste de Joseph Reinhardt, malheureusement trop souvent ignoré..je trouve regrettable que l'on ne lui ai pas accordé la parole..

Nice to see this. It does reveal that the closer you get to his playing the more obvious the difference. Lots of really competent players who could be exchanged without noticing. The manouche industry is a sad legacy. Like 78rpm records played so many times all that is left is surface noise.

Django est inimitable ! Il a même fait danser des nazis lors d'un show privé.... Dans cette soirée, l'alcool aidant, les inhibitions tombent et le pouvoir de la musique de Django rendit les femmes, envoutées par sa musique, plus ouvertes.... Poses lascives.... Cette soirée se termina par un scandale ! Des officiers SS comprenant la situation ont réagi et ont arrêté cette soirée. Sacré victoire pour la musique de Django. Moi je dit : BRAVO !
