Man, it takes some brass balls to give a game that name, because reviewers will have a field day with that abbreviation. It's either going to be "Everyone needs to stop sleeping on ZZZ" or "ZZZ put me to sleep," no in between
not funny didn’t laugh
Bonus Stage is literally optional you shouldn't just spend time on that lol
It's worth nothing
If that is like around 10GB again my phone is going to explode, thanks hoyoverse🥰
When man finds out about trip game mode
The thing about the emeralds is that I feel like a lot of people would’ve complained that they made the emeralds mandatory for a lot of level completion rather than normal classic gameplay. I really do think the best way is to make it optional, but just give it better use
The emeralds are really only mandatory in Trip’s Story
I think something like that could work if they gave you the emeralds naturally throughout the story.
That quote was one of the best compliments to a game I've ever heard. Made me cry looking back to when I played games with my father.
Trash mario game

I like that example with the RYNO. Crazy grind isn't the issue. The issue is the crazy grind turning out to be worthless.
I think your superstar criticisms are valid, but I think the part resolving the minigames should be reconsidered. You don't *have* to play the medal minigames and most people will just ignore them because they aren't required to beat the zone unless they want to grind for cosmetics and i dont think it was fair to count them in.
While I do agree that the medal minigames being optional is a fair point, there are other things to consider as well
-Most people won't actually ignore them on a first casual playthrough, because the game doesn't tell you what they are for anytime soon. So if I'm blind about the game, like he was, and I don't know what the medals are used for, I will probably get a bunch of them just for good measure. But I guess this is more of a subjective issue
-While the medal minigame is completely optional, the other minigame (which is a one button QTE so it's already bad as it is) is not that optional since powerups are locked behind that. And I don't think a game should force me to either totally slow down the pace of the game or nerf me
-As more evidence, we can look at the other game presented in the video. You don't need to get every single wonder seed to progress in Mario wonders, so you could say that a lot of them are optional, and even whole levels might be considered as optional. But as skooch says "The levels are so fun that you will probably play all of them regardless (11:40 in the video). So, a minigame being optional is not actually an excuse for being poorly executed. It's like when Overwatch had this game breaking bug and blizzard told the players "just don't do that", it doesn't work like that
@@gabriele6176 While I agree that many won't skip a medal they come across, the powers are optional. Like, entirely. The chaos emeralds have always been completely optional in every single 2D game. It's nice that this time they give you perks, but they've always been optional and out of the way, and that's still the case. You're not being nerfed without the optional content, you're being buffed for doing it. That's the entire point of side content, you do it for an optional reward. And this is optional. The mario game has them as non-optional, you don't have to get ALL but you need at least some. You can quite easily beat this game without a single emerald, the power to fly isn't actually needed in the game where only one character can fly.
And yes, he did indeed dislike the minigame. Did it ever occur to you that it's an opinion? One that many do not share. He doesn't like the optional minigames. I do. Most other reviews I've seen have been neutral to positive on it. And his opinion isn't helped by the fact that he is playing in a bizarre way he immediately regrets because it actively makes both games less fun. Yeah, they should've let you know sooner what the medals were for, and definitely turned down the costs. But the minigame would've been a lot more time if it wasn't the only Sonic he did for half an hour, randomly inserted into something else.
@@maromania7 I've seen the whole 'the emeralds are optional' argument strewn about and I don't get how that's supposed to be a positive point. 'Yes it's ass, but it's optional ass' is not how a game is supposed to be designed. The items in, say, shovel knight are also fully optional yet are fun to acquire. Getting the guns in Ratchet and Clank are optional, but as a player you actively want to get them. If the powers aren't fun, they shoudn't be in the game. If the minigames aren't fun, why bother designing them.
Being optional is not an excuse. Playing Sonic at all is optional. So why not design the powers to be fun? Or the levels to work with them? It shouldn't have multiple powers that are either worse than the fireball or so inconsequential you forget you have them. And in a game that's already as bare bones as Sonic is, we shouldn't be in a situation where we're making it even LESS substantial.
Honestly Skooch might be my favorite TH-camr. Blessing us with a 50 minute video and It's a banger 🤌
8:28 that's sum "LOCO Roco" type shi
Just when I was thinking: damn. I really need some Skooch content right now. I hope this means a stream will pop up soon too :3❤
Man... Ratchet and Clank my favorite childhood game. I wish I had a PS3 during the time to play the other ratchet and clank games in the past.
Only tried out Ratchet and Clank, Ratchet Deadlock, and Secret Agent Clank during my childhood. Yet, I really loved the game.
Saving up for that one weapon was so SATISFYING
Man, you have been making some of your best content ever this year. This video is fantastic :)
The mario game seems quite fun, but the Sonic Game on the other hand...
Exact opposite for me
Speak for yourself. Sonic Superstars is my favorite game of the whole year, and yes, I’ve also played through Mario Wonder.
I found Mario too gimmick heavy this time around and I prefer the more pure action-platforming experience Sonic Superstars offers a lot more.
@@dusk173as a person who’s only played sonic superstars, I feel like the game you like more honestly just depends on your gameplay style. If you like to explore and look around, Mario wonder is probably better for you. If you like going fast, then sonic superstars.
I personally like Superstars better, but that is 100% because I like Classic Sonic games far more than classic Mario games
i've heard, from other videos, that playing as Trip makes the game HARDER.
all the bosses will take more hits, and the final boss is completely different and even JANKIER and MORE unfair!
but, getting all the Chaos Emeralds first, so she can turn into a dragon, makes it MUCH easier.
(just don't turn Super before the boss spawns, that messes it up)
AND there's ANOTHER part, "final story", that's just Super Sonic VS a giant dragon.
7:13 GUYS! HES HOLDING A CHILI DOG! HES HOLDING A CHILI DAWG!!!
LOVED THE VID AAA 👌
Also killed me when ur like "were not keeping this in the vid" *still in*... LMFAO
Also, I agree fully about the metal coin stages and the way the swinging is for the chaos emeralds, and the slower bits that kinda kill the momentum, yeah the bosses arent too fun. I do love that pinball carnival and digital stage as well!
Also yeahhh when I found out what the medals were for... yeah not great, imo lol. I do enjoy both games but I do agree with Skooch's opinions c:
I think the reason why Mario's new powerups work and Sonic's don't is due to sonics powers being connected to the emeralds, but the emeralds can be missed. They had to design everything to be fully completable without the powers at all since they could never be sure what the player would have.
The shop in Sonic Riders was also prohibitively expensive. Some things never change. 🤷♀
48:39 OOOHHH BOY if you think the main story's final boss fight was terrible, i cant imagine your reaction to trip's final boss fight
34:58 that game is Rayman Legends for me
14:13 PEPPINO SKIPPPPPPPP
The silhouette levels in Donkey Kong are fun though
I think Wonders biggest issue as a game is boss variety and difficulty. The bosses are a bit samey and more about the visuals and the game is really easy except for a couple late game stages. Superstars' issue is its identity crisis, design issues, and balance issues. It tries way too much without being cohesive, the bosses and minigames aren't fitting to the moment to moment gameplay, and the emerald powers are either useless or broken. I know people say "you dont need the medals or emeralds, theyre just cute additions" but they arent designed very well to be something you go out of your way for for fun, and the rewards are too inconsistent to be a utility sacrifice. Besides, its a part of the game, just because its not required doesnt mean it shouldnt be fun.
Mario Wonder has its faults of course, i dont wanna dog on Superstars too much, but the difference is pretty clear. Wonder was a complete idea with a lot of fun ideas and is perfect for little kids especially, pretty fairly priced, and an all around charming tine. Superstars however couldnt commit to its sonic roots in a way most sonic games tend to suffer. Its buggy, weirdly paced, questionably designed, and way too short for its price tag with fleeting moments of what made Sonic fun. One of these games are going to be remembered for a long time as an innovative and creative addition to the 2D platformer space, and the other is going to be another mid Sonic game lol.
I thought mario wonders did nothing better than new super mario bros and just has the same boring design but throws in weird of putting gimmicks that are just 50 percent of the time cool and don’t offer any replay value and once you finished the game you will never ever want to play it again
Personally, I think Wonder does almost everything better then New Super Mario Bros. More of a unique identity, quality of life features like not being booted to the world map after dying, more playable characters, power-ups and badges that allow for more skill expression and replay value, more interesting and varied levels, a shop system that makes exploring feel a bit more meaningful, and a world map that feels more alive and gives you more freedom to progress at your own pace.
I like this kind of "review" method. You let us experience through the game via our own eyes with you before explaining the reasons why the level design choices were or weren't good and put your opinions later on. I don't play enough platformers so it was difficult for me to tell why people didn't like Sonic Superstar and why Mario Wonder was so highly praised (TH-cam reviews can either be too biased or brutal on their opinions)
That said, the title legit made me expect you would've play both at the same time via a dual/split screen or something lol
I love how he keeps on playing the sonic bonus stages for no reason lol.
Good video tho.
You should’ve been able to have the medals be able to unlock character skins.

Somehow I missed this one as I was watching Peppino rampage around Mushroom Kingdom
What’s “BB E” Mario? Big Boy Elephant, Bad Boy Elephant, Big Bad Elephant?
ah yes, sonic adventure is the games it shows you are playing, which is 100% true
That thumbnail is one of the best things I’ve ever seen.
42:29 PIZZA TIME
Mario wonder/Sonic Super Stars but schooch gives in to ADHD and finds out that constantly swapping between tasks is in fact not fun and very much makes both experiences strictly worse.
But, still a very fun video! Worth the 50 minutes out of my life it took for certain, and hope you have a fantastic time with the rest of Wonder!
During a Sponsored Segment I get a completely seperate youtube generated ad... I swear to god youtube, burning my biscuits and grinding my gears aint cutting how pissed off I am right now.
8:06 PTSD (Ad Break) You couldn't have timed that better if you tried!

Out of Mario Wonder And Sonic Superstars, Mario Wonder Was My Favorite because Im the Type That Loves To Play Games That Are Very Easy I just Hate tough Stuff though.
You also could’ve used the taunter in the first game at the Rilgar race track to get the 150k bolts you needed… which I definitely didn’t do O-O
the end was so heartwarming :)
You probably haven’t, but i think you should play sonic and the fallen star. It’s not too particularly challenging and is pretty fast paced. It’s much better then most of the new sonic games imo.
Ain't no way you got sponsored by Hoyoverse again, bro is making huge moves
The coins or whatever (not rings) are used to make purchases to robot so you can make him look like metal sonic or something else
Ah yes the bbe big boned elephant fruit
before mario wonder released i honestly thought it was 2d animation
its not
You really thought you could put some Sonic Riders OST in there and nobody would notice it ? TOO BAD I'M THERE 15:38
I guess this goes without saying... but it feels unfair to judge superstars like that when you've literally stopped at the halfway point of the game lol.
Trip's story is a whole new campaign, and you need to play it to get to the ACTUAL ending. it's not just you playing the game again with a different characters.....
That's like quitting SA2 after the hero story and complaining that the game is lacking lol.
Also all of the content you complained about slowing down the game is entirely 100% optional.
it's the same as how you didn't need to do bonus stages or collect the chaos emeralds in older games.
The boss fights thing everyone agrees on tho.
like yeah you can easily cheese them and all but it really seems like they were only designed for multiplayer
25:56 this happened to me and I wasn't sure what to do lol I left the game alone for a bit after that lol
Just listen to this hoyoverse music! *instantly goes to Playstation AD*

How is skooch keep finding this new idea to play video games?
BTW Awsome idea do that for more games
Aaand they done my boy Sonic dirty again.
I have this feeling that Nintendo kind of wants to make the Sonic franchise more popular, but instead of investing in it and taking risks they just slap features that wouldn't work in a "Sonic game" in it, while putting most of the money on titles they already know how to expand on and make profitable.
You mean Sega…not Nintendo. And of course Sega wants their games to be more popular…that’s how they make money.
When you rent two games for 1day
There are these people call dragon ball fans including myself so please respectfully shut up
really sucks as a Sonic fan to get a sonic game that's merely subpar because there was definitely some miscommunication between people making the game. If the game can be completed without the emeralds then there shouldn't be a reason to have them in there. Especially when only half the powers from them you'll end up using because there's no reason to use the others realistically. If the Co-oP story mode made it so that only one person can use a power-up then I could understand the reason.
Bro this is amazing keep it up!❤
skooch lied he hit 400k subs and never cosplayed belveth
I love sonic superstars but those sonic 1 special stages are not fun. The bosses are also meh, the main stages are fun as hell though.
Beat Mario Galaxy and Sonic frontiers at the same time lol
why did you keep playing the bonus medal stages from sonic superstars then? it's not necessary to play it, it's an optional minigame and it seems like you just played it to keep pointing the "bad" stuff in sonic superstars. pretty unfair review.
Pizza Tower:
Why play both WHEN WE CAN PLAY SPIDER-MAN 2
Bro the bonus stages are optional, why u bitching about "u have to play them alot" like BROO THEY ARE OPTIONAL, YOU CHOSE TO PLAY THEM (im not glazing superstars expect that, cuz i think superstars fucking sucks)

Then stop playing them. Just enjoy the stages. I highly doubt they were meant to be grinded, especially with the fact that you can get 5 for beating a special stage after getting all the chaos emeralds.

@user-mq8mo9zi4q Wouldn't it be more efficient to do BOTH the special, and bonus stages?
@@Aktedya1-jt7vw Yes, of course. But there is clearly one that is intended to be played more, as it gives a higher reward. That way you have a variety of of options to grind. Unless you don't like those methods, don't have a reason to, or both.

The emerald powers aren't needed in the game, they just are a fun way to help you progress and you can even beat the game without any emeralds, this also goes with the tokens, you don't need to jump into the token mini game each time you pass a checkpoint
While this is true, optional power-ups should still be fun and contribute to the game in some way, like Megaman. Honestly, this is way harder to do in a Sonic platformer due to the way the levels are built. It's easier in action games or slower or combat-focused platformers, for example. It's not very innovative, but i do think the emeralds being mandatory with levels built around their powers was gonna result in a better game at the end of the day.
As for the medals, idk, i felt the same way about the sphere stages in Mania and i learned to ignore them, i do wish these two games communicated which of the bonus stages gave you cool stuff and which ones gave you borderline useless fluff.
Who needs Sonic Superstars when Mario Wonder has the Jet Run Badge?
Not gonna lie ever since skooch stopped the league content the quality of his vids keep getting better and better (not saying the old vids were bad)
From what I understand about the critic reviews, they say Mario Wonder will be game of the year, while Sonic Superstars is being condemned for having to learn the game in order to be good at it... which is basically the basis for most of if not all sonic games. Granted, I have not played either yet, that is just what I noticed
I like how honest you are with the sonic game. Other content creators that I have seen say the game is amazing but then say they sponsored by Sega. It really makes me wonder how honest they are about it. I don't blame the content creators. It is there job to make videos. I do blame Sega for not wanting to take any criticism.
I mean, i'm not a content creator, but I loved Sonic Superstars, you just take'd that theory out of you ass ngl
@@rezenhasqn8308 That is fair. I just felt like I had had to mention it because the whole situation seemed strange to me. But yeah I could be overthinking it.
@@jetsguy226 yeah, I feel you
Sometimes we can't trust what majority of internet says and take that as the absolute and only truth, that's why we have to form our own opinions.
For example, internet and critics say that the Mario movie is "MID" or "BAD", but I love this movie and think is FANTASTIC
And we can't say that a content creator that say'd the movie is GOOD was "payed to say good about the movie", he just genuinely likes it, and that's ok, we all have different opinions
That's my point of view
Other content creators aren't playing it 3 minutes at a time in random splatterings though. He never had a chance to lose himself in the game, or even really focus. It wasn't really a great way to play the game as he himself quickly realized. Plus...like, SEGA also tended to target creators who like sonic games already. So yeah they were generally positive, but they would've been anyway. It's not a bad idea to be wary of sponsored content unless they were specifically allowed to say what they like, but take a quick search through thier catalogue. If it has a lot of that content, they likely weren't haters being paid to be nice.
I played the game and adored it. I never really thought it felt slow, and if you play with the multiplayer it had in mind you quickly find out it was neccessary. He complains about the emerald powers feeling unneccessary...but that's always been the point? They aren't, you don't HAVE to hunt down any of the emeralds, they have always been optional in 2D Sonic since the very beginning. I agree with him on some of the points like the shop, and at least see his point (I personally enjoyed the gravity shift stuff but I understand that's up to preference.) But it really is just that no game is for everyone. He didn't like it, others did. The best way to trust reviews is to just pay attention to a variety of people for a while. You learn thier biases, thier likes and dislikes, and then you have a good idea of how to interpret what they're saying. "Oh they hated it, but they said the same thing about X other game, and I loved that game for that exact reason, so I know I'll actually like it."
It makes life simpler to just assume every youtuber lies cause they just need cash to live... they just accept accept extra cash sometimes when playing a game to say less negative stuff than theyd usually do.
I think Sonic Superstars is a pretty decent $30 game. Controls are good, levels are aight, bonus stages are fun every now and then, Emerald Powers are aight, bosses kinda suck, yeah... on the worser side of Classic Sonic games for me, but there's fun to be had.
But yeah, no. Wonder fricking demolishes it in almost every way. Better visuals, better music, better theming, better rewards, better world map, better enemies, more creativity, more polished, more content, less sucky bosses, and WAAAAAAAY more fun levels.
The bosses in mario wonder suck ass absolute ass
Even new super mario bros does them better
Eh, I'd probably take Wonder's Bowser Jr fights over New Super Mario Bros's Koopalings to be honest. If only for the music and visuals that make the bosses FEEL a bit cooler.
2d Mario games in general need to have better bosses though. I'm sick of turtles that do the exact same spin attack every time you jump on their heads.

Sonic superstars was just another classic sonic and thats why I enjoyed it and it just gets better with each play through since its designed to be that
I think part of the issue is Mario Wonder was made with *possible* multiplayer but based on videos I've seen of people using it... it's a bit janky. While sure the Sonic game's multiplayer is also janky looking at times the game seems to be designed with it in mind. Sonic has to slow down because others need to be able to keep up with him.
EDIT: Just to be clear, the game (Sonic) is obviously a buggy mess but still.
The Sonic powerups reminded me of everything I heard about Balan Wonderworld, down to getting powerups later in the game that were already outclassed by ones you got earlier.
The overall rating got a 6 because Sonic was the one in the class group who didn’t do shit.
Sega make the 2d classic sonic game good and not mid this game was fun but disappointing.
