One of several attractive symphonic poems by a composer who promised much but, sadly, didn't live to make old bones. "Returning Waves" is a lovely piece of yearning romanticism with some nice orchestral touches. I've no doubt there are echoes of other contemporary (and earlier) like-minded romanticists but those hints don't affect my enjoyment of Karlowicz's music.
Hi, Tony. I've got a few Chandos CDs of his music but the versions uploaded here are new to me. On first hearing, they have an almost raw (if that's the right word) authenticity that I don't recall detecting in the Chandos series. Must dig 'em out and have another listen.
Blimey mate. I pays me bill and what do I get? Bleedin' lirisi... lyris... lyric... - Hmmmph, non-marchin' music> That's wot! I fink it might be time to sup annuver ale and exercise the old fumms-dahn option! On a more reasonable note, this is rather splendid and istotally new to me (as is the composer). A "thumbs-up" from this listener (not a "fumms-dahn"!).
Greetings Tony. One recent change is that the number of thumbs down each upload receives is no longer made public. The trolls must have steam coming out of their ears (and any other orifice that is handy)…
Od pierwszego słuchania kocham jego muzykę, również poezje jego Pieśni
Starting my morning with another great discovery 👍

Morning Max, old chap. New to me and lovely isn't it. Yes, hints (and more) of other composers (for me, most notably Bax) but that's no bad thing.

@@RoddersClassical A handy orifice? Now there's a phrase to strike fear into the heart of the sweet and innocent.
@@RoddersClassical I never understood the point of thumbs down for a piece of music. For bad language or something like that, I can see it.
