    Great videos and information, keep up the good work man. I've watched almost all your videos but still don't have a full understanding of matching my engine to compressor maps. I have an awd Honda k24 with k20 head, long tube manifold, and Bell vertical flow intercooler. This is mostly a street car so I'm obviously looking for the best response possible. Somewhere in the 600whp would be my goal. I think I have it narrowed down to the g25-660 or the g30-660. Which would be the best for my setup and what would be the difference between the two? Also what turbo housing would you suggest? Thx in advance for any input

    • @TurboDirectSA
      @TurboDirectSA  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi there Greg May, the K24 is far too large to run the G25 series turbochargers with. The engine revs too high and if you calculate your volumetric efficiency of the engine, you will see that the turbo is far too small - even for a low boost application.
      You need to consider the G30-770 which would be more suited to your engine size and high RPM band. The turbo will spool fast and be able to carry power through to 8000RPM + without any hassles. I would suggest the AR.83 turbine housing since the engine revs so high. This is a 770HP capable turbocharger and small enough to fit into limited space (compared to a GT35xx for example)
      Also Consider the EFR series - dynamite turbochargers with great power potential too.

      @@TurboDirectSA Thx for taking the time to reply Chris. I've considered the efr line but just assumed garrett's new technology was superior. Is this not the case? In reality I think response is more important than the number 600 for a street, occasional track day, and playing around at the dragstrip with friends. Looking at the efr line again I see the 7163, 7064, and 7670 to be in my range. I should have mentioned I'll be running e85 and space is not a limitation. So what's the best turbo for me, g30 or a efr? Also twin scroll is an option as I am waiting to buy my manifold upon turbo selection. I've read response will be better with twin scroll but will hurt top end slightly. Is this true? Thx again for leading the blind

      @@OnTheWorldWideWeb1 Garrett's latest tech and aero designs are absolutely ground breaking and the turbochargers are proven, but there are options like Borg's EFR setup which is also a serious product, by no means is this some cheap knock off clone of anything - the EFR features a GAMME Ti - turbine wheel head, which is the only manufacturer able to do this, and the turbine wheel is extremely light weight, which caters for and allows the EFR rotating assembly to spool up extremely fast and coupled to the high flow compressors, there lies an answer to the other products in the market. We are distributors for both brands, and i have my personal preferences which is irrelevant to this conversation as i will not allow any bias to affect any advise i provide.

    Great video, just subscribed! Your thoughts if you get a chance, 3.0L V6, specifically the Nissan VG30ET the SOHC version. Currently making 350hp with a hybrid t3/t4, nothing crazy. Looking to make 500 with minimal lag, been debating a gtx3076r gen 2, but these look amazing, any help? Thanks Chris

    • @TurboDirectSA
      @TurboDirectSA  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CVTURBO - i loved that motor when i was younger, the older 300ZX with single turbo is a low revving engine, and will need something to spool fast to ensure you have power throughout the RPM range - I would look toward the GTX3071R Gen2 or the GTX3076R Gen 1 or Gen 2 -- or the new G30-770 - i wouldn't go large than this for the sake of losing the low down response. You have a large CID engine BUT its not a multivalve setup to head flow and volumetric efficiency on this motor is not very high.
      The other option is the EFR 7163 with twin scroll turbine - this will allow very decent spool due to the T4 flanged (its not a T4 volute) inlet, which will work nicely on the V engine config you have. The Gamma TI turbine is extremely light weight, and will make 550WHP at around 1.8-2.0bar gauge pressure.
      Hope this helps -

    Garrett is absolutely killing it in turbocharging industry. Great video on showing off the that beauty of a turbo. Chris how would you compare the gtw34 to the gtx30? .63 housing for both to make it comparable if possible.

    • @TurboDirectSA
      @TurboDirectSA  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no comparison - the G25 is dual ball bearing, and will outspool ANYTHING in the same family size and/or up to 2 family sizes larger with the same HP capacity. The GTW is a journal bearing turbo offering which is also capable of large HP numbers, but without the same response and linear response, ALTHOUGH its more than capable of a streetable setup especially for the budget racer sector.

      @@ThatV12MiataBruh the GTW3476 is not an "upgrade" to the GT3582R as the GT is dual ball bearing, HOWEVER the GTW will spool faster due to the option of the AR48 turbine housing, and the turbine wheel's physical size is smaller - so transient response will be improved, especially on the RB25 (doesn't easily spool up a larger turbo)

    Fantastic review Chris,
    Im building a haybusa track car for 25min sprint sessions, it'll be getting a 1.5 stroker crank, forged rods and pistons, race port heads ARP bolts, dry-sump etc etc on e85. For an intercooler I'll be sparing no expense either going locally with something custom from PWR.com.au or mezzotech.com
    In Australia it gets bloody hot :)
    Im looking for a turbo with great response linear torque and a decent top end with a focus on response. I was thinking of some twin scroll turbo for response but am concerned these lovely G25's maybe too big for my application. I could get a billet block and bore it out to a 1600cc if that helps, bare in mind the engine will be revving to 10,000rpm.
    What would YOU do?

      Hi matey -- we currently hold the records for the fastest FULL STREET Hayabusa with street tires and full street trim in Africa 1000m sprint we achieved 385.9kmh and 406.9kmh on the texas mile, this bike uses the GTX3584RS turbocharger - the G25 is in fact too small for what you want to do - i would rather use the GTX3076R Gen2 or G30-770 unit which is the latest release. The G25 will make all of its power lower down, be scary to ride (extremely fast boost response) and make no power at the higher RPM range - considering you wont be holding back on spending, the motor and head work will be done, so the engine will flow alot more than a stock unit. The GTX/G30 family will give you alot more linear power delivery and will still be able to hold its own higher up in the RPM range - and will still be capable of over 600HP

Are twin g25-660 good for my application as I heard they are perfect for 2L 4cyl engines? BTW I wish to reach 800hp easily but the guy that will be building by engine says I should go single turbo. Problem is that I hate turbo lag and from all the reviews on the internet it seams like twin g25 are a turbos for me as they are very responsive.

      @TurboDirectSA  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Twins will be laggier depending on the application and HP target. Generally to make 800HP you'll need a mid/large frame single turbo setup and lag normally creeps in. Your specific application requires 800HP and its a large size motor - if you want to "divide up the engine" into the two V's -- i.e 2.0litre per 3cyl bank - this will spool up a G25-660 very easily using the AR72 turbine housings. This will make the required power without hassle at all, more than likely around 25PSI depending on tune, fuel and engine build.

      Hi there, the AR49 will certainly spool faster but will not produce the same power in the higher engine PRM range - higher back pressures in the turbine stage will prevent the max power capability. If you only looking to produce say 450-480HP then use the AR49, manage the heat by using a decent heat exchanger (intercooler) but also plot a compressor map to see where in the efficiency the turbo will be running on the motor at the boost/power level you intend using it - if you in the max or high efficiency range with the AR49 housing, then you safe in terms of excessive heat introduction into the engine, otherwise opt for the AR72
