Best Budget IEM's 2020 for MUSICIANS (universal fit IN EAR MONITORS)

  • This video is primarily for musicians and audio engineers looking for inexpensive reference in ear monitors. I chose these three options because they 1) have a full frequency spectrum, 2) have neutral reference sound signatures 3) have a large soundstage for good separation of instruments. While these also sound great as headphones for listening to your favorite music, I chose these specifically for musicians and audio engineers to add to their collection of pro audio reference gear. Here are the IEM's mentioned in this video: (prices are subject to change without notice, for more information and current pricing, see links below)
    Remember, if you want to get the most sound out of these in ear monitors, you NEED memory foam ear tips, the included silicone tips won't work for musicians. These all require T500 size tips. Here are the ones I use:
    sample pack if you don't know your inner ear canal size-

    Foam tips aren't necessarily better. Yes, they give better isolation, but if silicone tips give you enough, they're actually more balanced than foam tips. The tubular nature of the foam tip core actually boosts lower frequencies which might be much for some and more desirable for others. Also, in a live setting, it can be useful to have silicone tips that you can very quickly and easily take on and off compared to having to squeeze foam tips every time you want to put them in.

    If you're an audiophile this video is not for you! I have a lot of respect for you putting this at the very start of the video. I been looking at different IEM's and this was a random recommend. That you warned this is more for musicians and not just music lovers is very respectful of the many people who may stumble across the video.

    I recommended TFZ Series 2 (non-pro). It's true all-rounder IEM under 50$ on stage or mixing or DJ. Sound balance and isolate well. Very comfortable even use stock tips.

    Got a few things I'll add to the list of recommended iem related gear. The shure aptx hd bluetooth adapter is now only $50 and sounds excellent for iems that use mmcx connection. Unfortunately for two pin connection the only bluetooth I've tried and found so far is the kz aptx hd cable and the trn bt10 aptx wich is more stable with better battery life but doesn't sound as nice. For. Hardwired cable upgrades the linsoul trippowin 8 core and 16 core cables are the best affordable upgrade cables I've tried at around $16 for the 8 core and $20 for the 16 core cable. For iem wireless the xvive is a solid option for mono mix and the audio 2000 system is the best affordable choice for stereo. For eartips for universal fit as a alternative and more durable choice to the memory foam comply tips I recommend the spin fit twin blade tips or any triple flange tips. For custom mold iem's in the Us I recommend Anthem five iem's their dual driver set is $158 shipped and they sound excellent the new quads are $400 wich is abit steep but based on the dual drivers i can imagine for those willing to spend a bit extra they will be a worthy upgrade.

  • @99_Pixels
    @99_Pixels 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would like to say that sound quality is not about how many driver u can fit into an iem, it is about how well u can tune them. I own a KZ ZS10 pro and Moondrop KXXS. KXXS sells for $180 USD despite it is using only 1DD. Even at this price tag I would still say it is a worth it buy. It outperforms not only KZ but lots of multi BA iem I have tried their demo set at the store. The disadvantage of single dynamic is the treble clarity at the extreme end of the treble how much this matter depends on how u are planning to use the iem.

  • @Darius-kl3jk
    @Darius-kl3jk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd recommend, that unless you're looking specifically for wired iems, that you spend the extra and buy the Samsung Galaxy buds + or newest Apple airpods pro....
    These things are super convenient, comfy, and offer higher quality and Fidelity sound than everything on this list.
    Out of the the box, their audio profile nearly perfectly follows a neutral curvature, the harmonic distortion values, lfe, imaging etc etc all excellent...

    Best is DIY if you know what you are doing, just DIYed a Sonion 3800+knowles twfk 4 drivers IEM(HD audio from 10hz to 40khz) with a REALLY THICK(5mm diameter) 8 core silver plated copper cable for less than 90 bucks.
    From my personal experience foam tips has the most neutral sounds with best accuracy as it doesn't create any pressure between your eardrums and the iem, but I prefer triple flange tips for the deep fit in ear that gives extra bass and better clarity.

    I know this is an old video, but I stumbled onto it in my search for my first set of IEMs. I'm a guitarist, and for my first set, I'd like to stay below $100...if I end up like IEMS and we're gigging enough, I may upgrade or get customs later. I've seen CCA C12, KZ ZS10 Pro and BASN Master/MMCX as options, along with a few Simgots and Tins. It's all pretty overwhelming, to be honest. The big concern for me is my smallish ears. They're not noteworthy small, just on the smaller side. So fit will be a concern. Anyway, I'm just wondering if you're still testing IEMs and if so, what recommendations you have for a guitarist with smaller ears. Thanks!

    • @joshwise1369
      @joshwise1369 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Live sound engineer here - 100% no mic!!
      With any pro audio connection for live mixing, the female headphone inlet will always be TRS, instead of TRRS (which is what the male end on a headphone with a mic always has). While male TRRS will usually “work” when plugged into pro-audio gear’s female TRS connection, it not only is not as reliable but also more prone to noise/interference because the mic pole sends signal instead of receiving signal like the L & R poles. (If you look at the 1/8 inch male connector on any set of headphones with an in-line mic, you’ll be able to identify TRRS: it has an extra line (or “pole”) around it. 1 is Left, 1 is Right, 1 is Mic. In TRS connections, just 2 poles, 1 for Left, 1 for Right. You want to make a solid connection on just those 2 L & R poles, which is why sometimes that 3rd mic pole not only will mess with the signal, it can simply just not work at all when you fully plug it in.. causing you to have to make a weak connection just to hear sound out of your headphones. BTW.. speaking from experience with a lot of high schoolers trying to bring in their Skull Candies as IEMs 🤣🤣).
      In short, for pro audio applications such as yours, always no mic. 🤘

      But it's a bit big though coz it houses a 13mm tesla dynamic driver. It cost a $100+ tho..
      If you are on the budget, that cca12 will give you what you are looking for.

      100% nah.. you should keep looking and listening to ones and find one that fits your ear better. I guarantee you’ll be astounded.
      Basically anything dual driver from any brand under $20 or $30 on Amazon will blow the SE’s out of the water, and I’ve listened to 15+ dual driver and up IEMs and compared to the shure’s myself time and time again.
      I love Shure, they are by far the most incredible Mic manufacturer on the planet and scarcely do I use or recommend anything but Shure mics for just about any musical application on planet earth. But for anything else, IEMs and headphones included, they are always very very lackluster and overpriced for what you get.
      Just my 2 cents. Don’t give up on the search. I’d recommend dropping a measly $28 bucks on these KBears based on Dan’s review but also because their shape is a little smaller than the KZs you tried, which means you’ll also want to stay away from the C12 because they are larger as well. I would also recommend the TRN V80s. They’re an all metal and more compact design and they’ve stayed in and fit well in probably 95% of the 30+ musicians I bought them for at my church (fit-ability was a huge factor in my decision.. but the V80s on top of that just sound gorgeous.. ESPECIALLY FOR A DRUMMER! The low end is extremely punchy AND clean!) This was one of Dan’s top recommendations back in his 2018 vids and my life was changed forever hearing what 4 drivers sounded like! Again remember we’re talking 1 driver in the Shure’s vs 4 in the V80s or 3 in the KBears and so on.
      Hope this helps!

    Well next week custom molded iem. You're a diy man, aren't you? You can your own with a pair of iem that you have laying around and a custom molded earplugs kit(mostly silicone molding) that cost around 10-15 $. You'll receive a kit to make your own custom earplugs. Just follow the first steps and when you put the silicone in your ear just put your iem in and wait 10 minutes for the silicone to harden. Than pull out the ear plugs and drill a small hole in the ear plug(remember to remove your in ears first;) for the sound and there's a set of costum iem for 10$ no iem included or 80$ including the cca c16. I've done this today and they fit really good.
    Pro tip: when you open your mouth your ear canal is bigger. So when you put the silicone in make sure you have your mouth wide open for the 10 minutes. Than the in ears fit just a little better

      Jannes Van der veen What kit did you buy? And how did you prevent silicon from getting inside the inner part of the IEM when you shoved them into your ears while it was still mouldable? Wanting to attempt this myself and was mainly curious on being cautious on that specifically. 10 mistake is better than a $80 mistake including the IEMs haha.

      @@joshwise1369 The earmold kit can definitely get in the grill on the IEM nozzle. Happened to me and I had to pry the grill off. Personally, I didn't like the fit with the earmold kit around my IEMs....feels cheap and sweat builds up and makes a squish around year ears. There are places that make custom molds to fit certain IEMs. ADV Sound has a long list that includes Chifi and can do it for $100 around Black Friday.
