Their’s is to encourage people to remain calm, because with earthquakes and tsunamis, you have maybe a minute if you’re LUCKY. The Japanese tsunami alarm sounds the same as the Malaysia example in this video. Most Japanese buildings can resist earthquakes, so they don't want people to panic, but a tsunami is "oh shit get out now" time.

Yeah, I think it's just a good idea to teach kids what it means and not just let them panic while loud sounds are blaring and expect them to know what to do. I'm autistic so a less jarring and loud sound would be nicer and easier for me to manage.

I think I remember hearing that Japan has some pretty bad earthquakes so it’s scary that it has such a calm alarm, but idk if they have different alarms for different thing.
Fun fact: The 3 "beeps" at the beginning of the USA alarm are actually bursts of data, meant to be used by weather radios so they can display the alert on their display. The 3 quick ones at the end are just an "end of transmission" flag. This tells the weather radios to switch back off. Also The long tone after the 3 bursts of data at the beginning is actually different depending on the emergencey, this is so people listening can quickly identify what the emergencey is without actually having to listen to the message. (Assuming they already know what the different tones mean of course)

I have been in the emergency alert system community for years under different names, that japan one, was their early earthquake warning system. They have another alert system called J-Alert which is basically the gates of hell opening.

The saudi one is super scary btw after that funny sound comes a deep voice saying go wear a gas mask and then a siren the exact one for greece but high pitched goes on for 1 hour at least when the threat is over

I will never forget. My first day of college was a stressful day moving into the dorms, and when I finally got to sleep at the end of the day, I was woken up by an amber alert in the middle of the night which woke me up in a cold sweat and a immenent sense of fear.
When I went to the USA, I also remember that in the first week the amber alert sounded full volume in my phone…at midnight. I jumped out of the bed cause amber alerts in my place are people making posts in Facebook or the local tv news.
As a Singaporean our alarm scared the living heck out of me when I first heard it, and if I end up hearing it at 3AM in the morning while sleeping my soul would leave my body

China's is interesting. I think its a countdown from 60, by double digits, and then a count down from 10 by single digits. I probably would prefer to know when the impact of an earthquake is coming and how much time I have to do what I need to do. Still spooky tho.

I will never forget. My first day of college was a stressful day moving into the dorms, and when I finally got to sleep at the end of the day, I was woken up by an amber alert in the middle of the night which woke me up in a cold sweat and a immenent sense of fear.

When I went to the USA, I also remember that in the first week the amber alert sounded full volume in my phone…at midnight. I jumped out of the bed cause amber alerts in my place are people making posts in Facebook or the local tv news.
