    hi man thanks for the tut its really helped me. the for each prim worked great when my geo was not deforming. But then for deforming alembic animated characters I had issues using this method for isolating my roots. I ended up using a group range and swithcing my range filter to 1 of 9 and worked great.

    If you drop down a vellumconstraintproperty node in the dop network, it has a break threshold parameter. You can use this parameter to enable or disable any constraints. It is also key-able if you want to animate it.

    Hi there Rohan, I love your tutorials, they really help me out. I'm currently generating hair on a character for a short film, and the method you show in this video is much more streamlined than the previous one from 16.5, however I am not sure how to connect the guide groom into this network. Would you know how to do this? Either to initialize the guides or to custom groom them in this vellum workflow? Thanks a lot for the info so far, hope to see more of your tutorials going forward.

    quick question, when you update to 17 do you uninstall 16.5 or can you run both or does it auto update? I've never updated Houdini before. Did a quick search but can't find anything about actually updating the program from one version to the next.

    • @rohandalvi

      You can keep both versions. You can keep as many versions or build of Houdini on your machine as you want.

    • @stevensilcock
      @stevensilcock 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Houdini 17 installed. Now I can add that testpigshead or whatever it is with TAB in Network Editor. I couldn't work out how you were doing that then realized it was Houdini 17. Can't access those objects at that level in 16.5. Thanks mate.

    • @rohandalvi
      @rohandalvi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven Silcock the test geometry has been available since Houdini 15. You should have been able to access it in Houdini 16.5

    • @stevensilcock
      @stevensilcock 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could get it but I noticed you can't do it at top level in 16.5. You have to add geo1 object first then you can TAB > testgeometry > testpighead. That's when I realized that 17 is slightly different to 16.5. I would have to check again but pretty sure that was case which is when I checked for updated version & downloaded 17 & now I can add testgeometry straight away (at first level of Network Editor if that makes sense).

    Hi Rohan, you can get a smoother looking hair result if you keep cranking up the influence radius past the point where you get 100% coverage, instead you want 2x or 3x as much so the influences blend together!
