"The Virgin Mary is 2 kilometers away from the quiet settlement of Kato Tarsus, on the northeast side of the Feneos basin and you reach a mild dirt road.
This cluster of vertical rocks is imposing as a spectacular wall causing awe to the visitor. There, in a deep crack of the stone, there is a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Rock. It is an ancient ascetic where the upper floor was used as a food storage and during the Turkish occupation and as a refuge for the locals. According to tradition, it is rumored to have worked there.
Access is made by stone staircase, and there are three vaulted spaces and sanctuary. The space is always open.
According to tradition, this chapel is the result of a Tarsian woman who, according to a local legend, was preserved with the help of the Virgin Mary with her child from a certain death during the fall of Tarsus in 1458 by Mohammed II. After this event and to the manifestation of her gratitude, the woman placed some images in the slit of the rock, essentially marking the creation of the temple which is still adorned with remarkable frescoes, dating to 150 years and are works by the hagiographer Asimakis Skaltzas ."
