Gene Hoglan is such a nice guy. He is one of the few guys in big bands that has been able to stay humble and down to earth. It is very refreshing to know that there are some regular guys out there that 'made it'. Another guy that is really down to earth and who I have always thought was the 'nicest guy in rock n' roll' is Dave Ellefson from Megadeth. David strikes me as a normal, caring guy. Cool guys...awesome musicians in killer bands.
It just shows who James was back then. Respect for Gene who as usual is humble and down to Earth :-)

Man, in 1981 James was like 17-18, and Gene was only a kid, like 12-13 years old... I don't blame James, he was like "fuck off kid, go disturb someone else" hahahha

@@hinjurock Why? I was the days of global tape trading and Lars was well known for trading massively. Even my old band Crionic shipped out some 20.000 tapes and had some riffs end up in Metallica songs.

I met Gene in Dallas Texas when he was sitting in for Unearth. Mike Justaine had just quit to go play again for The Red Chord. He was such a gentle giant. So laid back and chill he talked to us for about 20 minutes. All I could think was Holy Shit the drummer for Dark Angel and for the Death- Individual Thought Patterns album!!

Me and my dad got to talk to him for a half hour or so in '05 during the Sounds of the Underground tour when he still played with SYL. Dude is as cool as they come 🤘

Plus he's made a career out of drumming for several legendary bands as his primary income, I'd say that proves he has plenty of business sense. Not everyone aims to be the biggest band in the world, some choose to do things differently & without compromise for popularity. Balancing business & integrity in this game isn't easy. Unless u were trolling of course.

Your opinion of Dark Angel remains just that: your opinion. Just cos I admire Gene's achievements doesn't mean I think Lars sucks. But u wouldn't see these things cos you're too busy getting triggered by a negative comment on your idol, Lars.

U were just upset there are people who prefer Gene over Lars. But thanks for letting us hear how u think Gene sucks, we don't hear that very often. LOL Testament, Death and Dark Angel combined have sold probably at least a few hundred thousand albums worldwide, not to mention all of the other albums from various artists that he's played on.
@@hinjurock Death alone sold over 2 mil in 2008-9. other bands have in the hundred thousands. which means like 3 million times royalties for mr hoglan.
