Man, I so much enjoyed the “backroads” vs the interstates when I was doing longhaul. They were almost always just a nice break from the interstate rat race. Being able to see America’s quiet side, small towns, open landscapes, and the last of the small “mom and pop” truck stops throughout the country was one my favorite parts of the job. Though I now enjoy going home every night because I drive local, I still miss some of the aspects of driving longhaul, so much so that I’ll probably make a few more cross country runs before I hang up my keys for good.
Don't apologize I feel just like you do. These people should be slowing down in the parking lot. Nobody should be in a big hurry. When it's come to your truck and somebody's trying to run it over. Yeah that makes you upset I see where you coming from. Just be safe out there. That's all we can do.

An idea for your air dryer. Check the ohms or volts going to it. I had similar problems like you are having. The heater would only work for a few minutes and then slowly go out. Replace the heater and cartridge, and then it worked like it was supposed to.
Hey Schmidt, I'm liking your style. Traveling the two lanes is a great diversion from the mundane of the big road. Too many allow themselves to be a slave to the clock and the ELD. I'm a company driver, doing 4,100 mile RT, hauling medical waste from WA to an incinerator in IL. It's possible to do the turn in 70hrs - BUT, only if everything goes perfectly! Any weather, any construction, any traffic slowdowns and you'll need to take an additional 10 break hours before finishing the trip. That said, the four of us doing this have realized slowing down, running 8-9 hrs/day (instead of 10-11), enjoying a meal and getting better sleep makes living out here much more tolerable.
Being in a hurry seems to be the way things are these days. A few extra minutes is not worth your life or someone else's. That was a beautiful drive. It's been a long time since I've seen angle parking. That's a throwback to when cars didn't have power steering and had to be moving to turn the wheels. Backing out of the spot you didn't need to start turning until you were moving. I would never be able to parallel park my '53 Chevy. 🤣You guys seriously need television in the bathroom? Really?! It's sad.... I loved trucking.... I felt free. I'm no longer an owner operator. Left back in 2015. I couldn't handle the government watching every move you make and the changes in the trucking industry, rising cost of maintenance and fuel with rates being stagnant. Sold my trucks and got out. Made some money, bought real estate over the years.... now I'm semi retired living off my 3 rental properties as income. But I really do miss the open road, freedom and the adventure!

I think if you have the time know 100 percent no low over passes and the like your far better off driving the two lanes if there is not a lot of slow traffic. You go slower, your not so wound up and the scenery is usually pretty good. I like going through small towns, see what’s there and see how they live. Traveling on the big road all the time gets boring. Love how you operate your truck. Kurt what kind of fuel mileage do you get with that big 600. After delivering at Bar S in Clinton Okla several times,I decided not to return as they took forever to live unload.thats been about 20 years ago so may have changed.
Concordia ks. Back in the 70s was driving for a company that had a warehouse there. We had keys so we could unload ourselves at night. Had a driver that was a thief. If it wasn't chained down he had it. JD dealership don the road had left a riding lawn mower outside. This guy backs up to the dock and is pushing the mower in his trailer. Cop shows up asks what he is doing. Loading this up so the cop helped him push it in the trailer. Never did get caught.
Opie reminds me of my Miniature Pinscher, Bruno. He would follow his nose to the end of the earth if I let him. Sniffed right past a garter snake in the back yard and didn't even notice it.

I was once parked at the loves in okmulgee,ok one night and it was pouring pretty hard and there was this reefer came in the lot around 25-30 mph almost ran over a guy all i heard was the tires locking up and the guy running to save his life
Those Canadian driver know how to drive in the snow, last week a Canadian driver pass me,, with about 8 inches of snow on the highway he was doing about 60 mph, I couldn't believe how fast he was going, but he clearly left me behind.

The conversion goes like this you have eleven hours to drive and you should be there with fifteen minutes to spare? Reality check time a professional driver is the captain of the ship and it is totally their responsibility to drive safely and arrive safely. And if more time should be required that is ok too safety is the number one priority. Also something else to take into account the miles posted for the load driving distance? The distance is what the zip code to zip code distance is and it won't be the true miles the trip.

Did you know some states advise us truckers to pull in and sleep at the chicken coop and they promise they won't mess with us.. I think it's Illinois Oregon Iowa Nebraska and a couple other ones I forget but just keep that in mind there's States out there that their weigh stations will not bother us they want us to actually pull in and sleep there

Now im 58 and homeless and still no one will give me a job couse no license so im concidered not dependable not reliable couse no license.

The "ELD crawl" is a symptom of poor time management skills. Likewise "racing the log" on the roàds. We are 100% in agreement about appropriate speeds in truck stops and yards.

The screens in the rest rooms are for ADVERTISING. They use every way possible to get the message across. I have a CDL, 46 years of driving. Went drive at Donnelly Truck Service in Willmar MN. The tractor had so many issues, I refused to drive it. Brakes, air leaks, fire extingisher not properly secured. They fixed some of the issues the next day, took a load from Willmar MN to Pelican Rapids MN some lights out on rear of trailer. Got to destination, went to hook up to next trailer, NO BRAKES, trailer just kept rolling back. Hooked up air lines tried to charge system, no luck. GAVE UP. Texted the company this is not going to work, bobtailed back to Willmar and now whenever I apply for a job, no one will hire me. After Thanksgiving, will check into it further. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
The Love's in McPherson Ks has always sucked since it opened. Not one of the locals there care enough about the otr drivers that have to utilize it for their breaks. They speed through there like its a race track always.
I pickup up about a mile or so from that Loves there in McPherson. Parked there several nights. One time, there was a driver i guess coming out of the fuel islands to leave and smacked the back end of a truck parked in the end spot in the middle row...then took out the hood coming around the other side! I was parked next to him, and boy he was cussing up a storm! Perdy 389 Pete too.

Wow. My hometown is just south of McPherson in Hutchinson. Then up in Concordia, my grandpa lived just west in a very small town.
