I was actually at worlds and we saw everything happening on stage without looking at the screen. I will say I think you’re sleeping on the first song. Actually being their you feel the base in your chest, add in the atmosphere and stakes of the event and you get goose bumps through the whole show.

Big difference is the AR from the others Worlds could only be seen if you're looking through a screen and this was actually on stage for the crowd to see. That's why it didn't look as solid.
absolutely agreed, plus it was using holo-glass on a round stage, so its more difficult to time thr animations & lighting compared to their true damage live on a more 1 sided screen/stage. still absolutely loved everything about this year tho 😊

Chances are that it was their first and only time attending a world final in person. I think for most people, any final they attend in person would be their favourite. It's hard to compare a final you went to compared to others you saw on screen.

For me personally this year was NOT about the live ceremony the way it usually is, this year was a story of friends, rivals & heartbreak Deft & Faker-2 pro’s who went to the same high school, then Deft & Keria-2 former teammates, Keria got poached by t1 & he left DRX(admittedly DRX had a rough few years) for what he THOUGHT would be an easy ride to winners of WORLDS only to lose to his former team
The performance is a lot better from Audience perspective, the streams didnt do it justice. It was the limitation with the stage that they have and especially with it being round instead of a giant rectangle like the 2019 opening ceremony.
From the crowd prospective it looks better I think because we are so close to the screens in the video it doesn't look as clear or crisp but if you see pov videos from the crowd it looks amazing. The true damage ceremony was cool but only one side of the venue could see it. This one is visible on all sides which makes the experience better for the people actually there and since they didn't use VR like in the KDA the audience can actually see what was happening on stage.
not true. In Paris the wall visuals was all around the stage, and in the is only 4 pieces, so there is no connection between the images. and we could see in any part of the stadium in Paris the hole performance. just see the public videos online to check it out
I believe the seethrough is part of the technology. Basically there is a mesh surrounding the stage that all the CGI gets projected on but you still see the performers through it. Might look even crisper in person but I've never been. The KDA solidness back in the day were AR models overlapped with the live feed but there was nothing there in person. With these mesh projection VR technology the audience get's to see it real live. Giants concert in Paris back in 2019 is still my top Worlds Opening ceremony. This one was up there with Riot being back on track.
The KDA and previous ones looks better in graphics because its edited on to the videoand you don't see them in person. This one the visuals is purely on stage so both viewers in person and media could see. Knowing that then this is the best ceremony.

One of the issues for this year was visa issues from the lead on the first song, and there is word that while they were trying something new they also had item shortages like not enough cameras for the holos to give them the full effect. But cannot blame riot for reaching to do more even with the risks of pushing for a better show each year.
The effects werent as hq cause this was moving displays on a damn stage. Everything we saw on screen the audiance saw irl like some futuristic hologram projection
I think they definitely prioritized the in person experience, and imho that's okay. It didn't look as great on camera, but I can deal with that. But they definitely messed with how much lip sync/actual vocals they had this year. I would guess because they've probably gotten negative comments over the years at the vocal quality of performers live at worlds.

In terms of the VR I think part of it is that you're comparing to the KDA quality which was on-screen only where these are projections that can be seen in person not just on the overhead screens, so that'll be part of it

one thing diff about the youtube video and the twitch live stream is that the colors on the holograms are reduced on the youtube video making it seem more low res
The VR is different because the people in the place were able to watch it in the stage and not only in the screens. So for me this are the best finals because they tried to give a better stage for the people in the place.
I don't know why people think the KDA worlds were somehow outstandingly good. A lot of things during the opening process didn't work as it should, as riot was talking about, and the opening itself wasn't really good either.
I pretty much agreed with ya on all of that. Everything was good and worked (the very end with Nas getting raised up by the Azir hand was a great visual), but the bar is just so high from League that it still fell short some from what their best is. 2019 is still GOAT’d imo
The players probably barely even heard the music, let alone wanted to turn up to it :p they about to play in the finals of the world championships, they way to locked in
the big diference here is thst in most of the ceremonies we are the only ones that can actually se the vr, so the live espectators don't see it actually on stage if they are not looking at the screens
There is a net around the stage and everything is projected onto it, so all the effects are live and can be seen, (its a holonet*). I feel like another think that added to the epicness of the other Worlds performances is the size of the stadium. If you look back to others its all outside, up until True Damage, which was their first use of the Holonet.
This is not VR. There is a glass like wall on the places on the stage and riot projects the images on them. Basically the audience can see the actual thing on person not only through the screen from YT.
I think they failed with the camera work. The show was probably as dope as 2019 live….. but they zoomed in freaking 95% of the show vs reasonable zoom out of the 2019 show. Because of that the effects were not nearly as visible as back in Paris on screen. Camera / recording production failed to deliver the scale and consistency for remote viewers.

I don't know if it's a budget or time constraint thing but I think Riot figured that the transparent screen method was better to do then AR (augmented reality).
Yeah, that's not VR in this one. It's transparent holographic style displays. much like 2019, but on a full 360 degree stage with built in floor displays. Realistically, the stage utilization and effects are a technical wonder. If to say, a very different technical wonder from an AR concert like the 2018 one. or the "flat" holographic stage of the 2019 opening ceremony.

@Scru Face Jean This isnt "VR" (technically you meant AR). AR is only seen over a screen, meaning it shows up in video or if you watch it through your phones camera, but you dont see it live. Those KDA shows were AR so the live audience didnt really see. What they are doing is a type of holo glass that allows everyone in the audience to view it. Transparent sheets are lined around the stage that allows you to project images onto them and use perspective to make it look 3d. This is the same type of tech they used for worlds 2019 when Giants by True Damage released. I personally prefer this holo screen because that element that you can view everything on stage live just makes it feel so much more hype as a performance imo. Although I also think that 2019s use of the holo screen was better. I rank 2019 as the best worlds opening to date from a live perspective.
Sadly the main singer for the first performance canceled last min and they had to adjust the performance with like a day or two notice. (What I heard didnt do much research)
Gotta understand crowds probably scare them alot, gamers are pretty anti social especially at high caliber like that since most the time they are training behind their PC.
Seeing it live I was thinking it was half assed, on repeeat it's good, problem is shows like 2019 was just so much better. No shade, they just putting too much pressure on themselves.

sadly to me this finals opening was a total letdown. the opening song the call was great and a nice setup piece but what felt like a random singer showing up kinda ruined it as they could have just kept it atmospheric with dancers instead and just had the singer sing offstage.(apparently visa issues affected the main singer) the 2nd song is from their newest skinline release and overall is just a very bland pop song that brings nothing to the current championship. as for nas x performance its just meh, all the lipsyncing and the fact that skywalking doesnt bring any energy/hype was an issue when they annouced it as the league song for worlds and definitly didng bring anything to it. overall there just was nothing songwise that brought hype or pumped up the energy compared to even previous years. the hologram play was okay at best but definitly like you said looks a bit off since they went for a more seethrough variant then the solid versions they used in the past(granted im sure thats because this time the holograms were visible to the naked eye on stage throught the screens you see around compared to having to look at a screen to see it previously.)
