    I don't know why but Oasis of the Seas it reminds me of Titanic and I don't mean in size, neither in color or it has nothing to do with technology as well. But I think that for some reason this ship is going to be a legend!

    @Kmartfor3 Both ships are 225, 282 GRT. The structure of the ships are the same. Both ships are amazing and offer an experience unlike any other ship in the world!

    Speaking of the US Navy, I read about an incident involving a US Navy convoy. The Navy Captain was informed of an approaching vessel on a collision course with the Navy ships. The Captain notifies the approaching ship and instructs it to alter course. To the Captain's surprise the other ship refuses to give-way. The Navy Captain gets into an uncomfortable verbal exchange and tells the oncoming ship that he is the Captain of a US Navy vessel and he will not deviate from his course, and will ram the other ship if it doesn't give-way. To the Captain's dismay the other ship's response was "Go Ahead, if that is what you really want to do." A moment later the Navy Captain realizes that he has been speaking to a man on an island. The Captain makes an immediate course change and not another word was said as the Navy ships slowly give way and goes around the island.

    @PaleHearse 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ah.. no. They are currently building her sister ship. They usually build these suckers in 2's and 3's because basically the tooling cost to build one is most of it. It actually costs just about the same to make 2 or 3 as it would to just make one.
    I know that doesn't sound logical on the surface of it but that's engineering. They contract out the price of both or all 3 vessels at once and spread the cost across all vessels of the same platform.

  • @Cuenta-ry4bm
    @Cuenta-ry4bm 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    wikipedia says the crew is of 2394 persons, that means that it needs 2394 workers or "pilots" to make the ship run? or those 2394 of the crew are also the butler, cookers, janitors, etc? The point of my question is how many people does it takes to pilot the ship? In airplanes we know they are only 2 the pilot and co pilot but here i see at least 20 people on the bridge control room... Damn this is aboslutely my dream job, captain of that ship... even that im afraid of seas/ oceans...

      +john hamlet Marine department consists of Deck officers, engineers and electrical engineers..
      Usually on cruise ships of this size you have Captain, Staff Captain, Chief officer, 3-4 1st officers, 3-6 2nd officers and plenty AB, OS, two bosuns etc.
      Engine department is Chief engineer, staff chief engineer, 1st etc as for deck...
      Electrical department is made of Chief Electrical engineer, 1st and electronic engineer and 4-8 2nd and 3rd electrical engineers plus 6-15 electrical assistants.
      On my ship with 1250 Crew we have around 80 people in marine department, ~25 officers.
      There is many cabin stewards, galley crew, chefs, people who work in shops, bartenders, entertainers etc..

    • @ETO0705
      @ETO0705 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +hoshino Its "old" system... 3rd officer on cargo is same as 2nd officer on cruise ship, 2nd officer = 1st....

    Sadly said a VOR 70 racing yacht has more sophisticated technology regarding navigation and weather routing and most importantly the know how how to use them then this giant monster. Captain is trusting his LCD screens like Edward John Smith trusted that Titanic can't sink but he managed to sink it.

    I think this captain would be surprised at what some of the warships would have in the way of electronics, not everything is advertised or talked about, for good reason.

    • @ph11p3540
      @ph11p3540 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +hoshino Yep. Maybe he was comparing the ships systems to that of an old Spruance class destroyer and not an Arleigh Burke destroyer never mind the extreme tech on a nuclear submarine or Nimitz class carrier. Even the LCS Independence corvette has a far more sophisticated bridge than that floating hotel.

    • @ETO0705
      @ETO0705 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +hoshino You would be suprised how sophisticated are all the systems on this new cruise ships, start from the fire monitoring systems, water production, sewage treatment etc.. Still I believe warships have amazing radars, propulsion and weapon systems but stuff like water production, sewage etc are in my opinion probably more advanced on cruise ships..

    • @ph11p3540
      @ph11p3540 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ETO0705 I doubt this cruise ship has as advanced radars and propulsion as found on a modern destroyer. A AN/SPY-1 radar is the most advance radar today known to man until the AN/SPY-3 comes. You can't compare what this ship has to a military ship. Not by a long shot. You will never see phased array SPY radars on an civilian ship. Even the gas turbine power plants are state of the art. The point is military ships will always be far more advanced than anything on civilian ships. Their very survival depend on it.

    • @ETO0705
      @ETO0705 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phillip Mulligan Thats why I said that I believe they have amazing radars and propulsion probably better than civilian ships but others that I have mentioned... I don't believe they have anything much better or even if not same/worse. Again evaporators, reverse osmosis, especially sewage treatment....
      When it comes to gas turbines I wouldn't know since I have never been on a ship with such propulsion but I can guarantee you ABB Azipods what we have are state of art too.
      Well omw to make some research if that military stuff is possible to find somewhere on the internet.
