I might have missed it because of the wind noise but did you say about how deep they were on average? Can you just about count on them being at a certain depth according to the temperature? I'm pretty terrible at winter time fishing and am still trying to figure all this out.

The sun is a key factor. it will warm the water up quicker in the shallows and a lot of times reds will be shallow on cold sunny days
