Captain Sir Tom Moore (former Colonel Tom Moore) has been awarded a Blue Peter Gold badge in recognition of the war veteran’s remarkable NHS fundraising and for being ‘a beacon of hope’ during these difficult times. Formally known as Captain Tom, this amazing 100-year-old man raised almost 33 million pounds for the NHS walking laps in his garden! What a legend.
What is VE Day?
Friday 8th May marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day), where fighting in Europe during World War Two came to an end. You can find out more about VE Day on the Newsround website.
Many brave soldiers like Tom celebrated this day in 1945, and he is still a hero today, helping people during these difficult times with his determination and bravery.
