A32 Maxima Rough Idle

  • ** UPDATE, I ended up tearing apart everything down to the fuel injectors. Replaced all 6 with OEM parts, replaced the entire EGR system, coolant temp sensor, redid the entire vacuum gallery and all the hoses, pretty much everything that came out to get to the injectors was replaced when putting back together. The idle problem never showed its face again**
    My 95' Maxima experiencing a rough idle.
    Once I rev up the rpm's it goes away. Then comes back sometimes minutes, hours or days later.
    When it's idling rough and I shut the vehicle off it won't start back up unless I give it throttle.
    Hasn't stalled on me yet.
    All 6 coilpacks replaced with Hitachi's.. Problem continues....

    Have you made sure that the idle air control valve is perfectly clean?

      Seems as though every time I fully clean an IACV it makes things much worse than before the cleaning.

    Did you manage to find out what the issue was? My A32 95 Nissan cefiro (same as maxima but a Japanese import to NZ) is doing something similar and it is driving me nuts. I've changed spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter etc. When it is in idle every 20 sec or so it drops revs to 400-500rpm and sounds like yours like its missing or about to stall. If I hold it at 2000rpm on the accelerator pedal, every 20 sec it will drop back to 1500 then slowly climb back to 2000 without me moving the pedal.

      Sounds like you may have an issue with the idle air control valve, throttle positioning sensor or your mass air flow sensor. I've replaced fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, 6 injectors, 6 coil packs, egr valve, egr bpt-valve, egr guide tube, egr temp sensor, engine coolant temp sensor, 6 spark plugs, fuel lines, coolant lines... pretty much everything I had to remove to get to the injectors I had replaced with new oem parts.
      The sputtering/missing I am no longer experiencing but my idle still acts up sometimes. Someday's it stalls and someday's it runs like it was designed. I may have to check what I'm recommending you check. Everything else has been replaced. Good Luck!
