This afternoon, I downloaded a bunch of Rankin music. Listened to it and loved it. Now I'm watching the videos and I can't stop crying. So much has happened in N.S. this year and these wonderful voices are stirring up all of these emotions. Played We Rise Again and lost it. Thank you Rankins for being so special.
I still remember watching Rita's show on CBC which was one of three stations we received living 7 miles from the line in northern VT. I have loved the Rankins ever since and wish the remaining members of the group would regroup and come back on the circuit.

They are singing in Gaelic an old Scottish language brought to their Cape Breton island in Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia is Latin meaning New Scotland, named Nouvelle- Ecosse for our French speaking citizens, means the same thing. Their English does seem to carry the old Scottish accent, Newfoundlanders have the same sort of thing only their accent comes from an ancient form of Anglo-Saxon, very heavily accented.
