I chanced upon your video and got really impressed by your way of presentation. I am absolute beginner and trying to learn harmonica playing. I have a couple of harmonicas. Out of these, I find Lee Oscar's Melodica is excellent for bending notes. It suits nicely for the soulful hindi songs. Wanted your comments on this particular model.
Sir, please confirm if you are talking about Lee Oskar Melody Maker model. I have never played that model but it has a variant of Country tuning which is different from the standard Richter tuned diatonic harmonica. Beyond this, I am unable to comment since I never had a chance to play it myself.
@@HarmonicaShala Thank you Mr. Khare for the prompt reply. I am talking about the Melody Maker model. You are right about the F# scale. To repeat what I learned from channel, the tuning is perfect for Kalyan Thaat. Songs based on Yaman & Bhupali are very easy to play on this scale. I am a novice on harmonica. First instrument I bought was Hohner Silver Star. I faced lots of difficulty bending notes on that instrument. On the Melody Maker bending comes almost naturally. I wanted to know if the same is true for other high end instruments.
Ease of Bending is usually better with high end instruments. It depends on how airtight is the build of of an individual instrument. Silverstar is a bit leaky instrument which is not well optimised for bending. IMHO, you can try a Hohner Special 20 which is fairly easy to bend. Also, there are some keys like A, Ab and Bb, which you may find easier to bend compared to C, D, E and F. E and F are difficult regardless of models, high end or low end alike. Just my observations. And I do not claim to have tried all of these except on Suzuki Manji which is slightly high end harmonica 😀
Well, absolutely ok for a beginner. As long as there are 2 notes in a hole, it matches the globally followed standard. The only difference is that it will have 2 and 1/2 octaves in place of 3 octaves like a 12 hole chromatic. Hope this helps.
Yes you can. Shifting to other type of harmonica may involve initial struggle. But it is definitely possible. I have done that myself. I first learnt 48 hole tremolo, then shifted to 24 hole Tower chromatic, then to 12 hole Hohner chromatic and then learnt 10 hole diatonic. Everything is possible when one has the desire 😊
@@HarmonicaShala Sir, I'm new to this instrument. Should i buy a brass one or stainless steel?? Which one sounds better ?? And Which is more durable?? Any affordable( not high end brands like hohnee & suzuki) recommendations you can give for a beginner??

In any country tuned C harmonica, there is a sharped F ( F#) which is excellent for playing songs based on Yaman raga.
