      I only have squats stands, barbell, bumpers, platform and pullup-bar. No bench no rack
      bench and powerrack are overrated I said it.
      I never bench and mostly do weightlifting and not powerlifting.
      So everything is from the stands or off the floor

    • @BigUriel
      @BigUriel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Goriaas You don't *need* a power rack but it is a very versatile piece of kit. Obviously it's of less use to olympic weightlifting than powerlifting, in which you have to bench press, and most people who are into strength training or gaining muscle also generally like to do other forms of pressing at various inclines. Racks are also great for pull ups/chin ups, plus you can add a variety of attachments to a rack and do almost any exercise you could possibly want on it.
      Ultimately if all you want to exercise your muscles though, even barbells and plates are overrated. There are so many other ways of doing that same thing.

    I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews. I was so impressed with the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B

    Squatting outside of the rack with bumper plates. There's a VERY strong incentive to stand back up, but failing and dumping the bar behind won't kill you or put a hole in the floor.

  • @lk-ip1xs
    @lk-ip1xs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Actually, I use Monolifts for Bench. ATX makes a monolift, which has a counterweight on the top, so it swings back automatically without a spotter operating the monolift. This is quite useful for heavy bench if you don't have a spotter to unrack the weight, because unracking the weight on the bench can be quite taxing, and in addition to that it can also make you lose your tention on your arch. So when you are benching without a training partner, a monolift is pretty useful for bench in my opinion

  • @JuanyJuanes
    @JuanyJuanes 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I got a power rack (well, really a rogue s2 squat stand) instead of joining a gym because it has spotter arms. All of the bench presses at the LA fitness in my area do not have spotter arms and there is only one power rack with bent pins- no thanks. The power racks are extremely versatile and let you train to failure. I just ordered a universal landmine attachment from pro maxima so i can do belt squats with a dip belt

    • @GutsBatman
      @GutsBatman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I upgraded my Rogue SML-2 Squat stand to a RML-390 and I don't regret the decision. My main reason for it is that I had to keep moving the stored plates on it. I learned the lesson of needing quite a bit of counterweight when I started doing banded rack pulls (which I have found to be crazy intense and one of the best lifts I have found to do for lower back). I love the spotter arms. I just got done with a 2 month stretch of pin pressing, and it was soooooooo helpful in pushing my bench press (and press in general) up, especially since I do have a reliable training partner. I, myself, found myself at the commercial gym that I still have a membership at and questioned why they don't have equipment with spotter arms. Since I started lifting with a buddy I work with and "upgrading" his garage with new specialized bars, I have really begun to see the limitations in training solely at a commercial gym. I feel like I have so much versatility in what I can do now.

    Thank you so much for the information!!!!! I couldn't get a clear answer on using the spotter arms when squatting with the combo rack. Many lifters were giving me different answers some saying use the arms others say to use a spotter but just inherently it felt less stable to set the barbell on the arms in the bottom of the squat than say a monolift with the straps or in a power rack with the pins. It's good to know to use a spotter with a combo rack and pins/straps on the others :-)

    It does move a little when you're loading on over 300lbs at squat height but I don't know that it would actually fail so long as you aren't wiggling it when moving the bar on and off.
    That being said, I'm not sure why half racks aren't being discussed as they are useful if you're taller

    Power rack all the way. I currently use a two post CAP Barbell FM-8000F. So far it's great. The spotter arms are a must! The rack has band pegs. So I decided to try banded bench. The spotters saved my ass. I could lift the bar and with bands there was no way I could roll it. So for a home gym, safety is key.
    At some point I want to upgrade to a 4 post rack.
    Here is the rack I use if anyone is interested in an inexpensive rack that gets the job done.

    I use a rogue monster lite rack with the rogue monolift arm attachment, dont need to walk out my squats, and its like getting a handoff on benchpress.

    I go to a very cheap gym. The power rack is too low for me to do overhead presses, so I have to clean the bar from the floor or something. Also, the ceiling is too low, so I can't use the large 40 lb. plates. I have to use the smaller ones. It sucks, but it's better than no gym at all.

    For the home lifter, the power rack seems to offer the best of all worlds (capability and safety) in a compact space. Especially on the safety side, the higher cost would seem to be worth it.

    Theoretically, the only movement that requires a spotter or safety arms is bench. Everything else, you can unrack from simple hooks and bail out. I’m not saying these racks aren’t useful tools. They are. But some people think you can’t lift without them.
