Finally an artist who knows the benefit of holding your pet while creating. I’ve been doing the same thing with my 9 foot reticulated python-anaconda mix named Squeezer for several years now. Can use him as a strait edge as well.

You are a really good teacher. Thanks. Your landscaping pleine air work is terrific. The black t-shirts you sell need big colourful brush strokes on them!

One point.. Is the keep the tones closer. Avoiding sudden transitions.. & let the layers play the role

Thank you for your videos. On this occasion I was able to focus on tour face and watch the shadow play on the right hand (My left) side of your face.. I focused so well that I had to replay to hear whet you said. A little fast for me at 84 post heart failure and video but you have helped me immensely having decided to do a commission in oils, my first post heart trauma. Biggest problems sitting painting flat and it looks ok until seen from from vertical. Need to support my hand whilst using table easel Thank you so much for helping me have the confidence to do this. Scary, but so rewarding. Wish I was like Daniie (next comment) and yourself and had someone to help me along. But Usually animals and now this long dead trying to rescue his mates Miner has stopped off to encourage me along the way.

Thank you . You are a great coach. I have painted maybe a thousand live models. I have had some of the best artists in the country as teachers. Most could not communicate or teach they could show.
i would be a much better artist , a lot long ago , if you were there.

Sorry one more thought. Painting loose- My eye Doctor used to review paintings. She would say to me you need to paint loose. When you paint loosely your paintings are much better. More interesting ,etc etc

    Fun video, Thanks!
Off topic...A subject I would like to see in Paint Talk is about avoiding (maybe) painting cliché's. Like oh look I painted a nice redbird! Or at least how to approach such subjects and scenes that have been done a bazillion times with a fresh or different view. I like many cliché paintings but not actually satisfied doing another "ho hum, isn't that nice"

Loose but accurate - that`s more difficult than "tight" and accurate ;-) But you are able to do so - thumbs up :-)

Agreed. There are a lot of videos out there on how to use grids and a whole mathematical approach to painting basically a photograph. But the reason I love looking at a painting is because it adds a whole new dimension to the subject that can't be captured otherwise. This style definitely does that for me.

i love your videos, would you ever do a video on acrylic paints. i have been following you for a long time and im just wondering if i can still apply these principles with acrylic as u do with oil.

Gotta ask.... Your views on *using photos as reference material for a drawing* ?
Or _is it better to have a 3D OBJECT_ / draw from real Life situ?
    Cheers

The secret for a accuracy is to draw with the paint. Make sure every brush stroke is thoughtful and loose but imagine it before laying it out.
