"Bubbles" - an imaginary soundtrack for an imaginary video game

  • My one year old accidentally changed my keyboard settings to "marimba" which prompted the little riff at the beginning. Then it took on a life of its own in Logic Pro....
This is the first time I've made anything in this genre, but I hope you enjoy it! I was picturing an underwater video game. Let me know in the comments if I should do more content like this - it's more of a process than piano compositions, but it was fun.
    - Many thanks to my sister-in-law for creating the audio visualization; I owe her a bucket of Oreos.

I love underwater soundtracks because they really get you immersed in the atmosphere and ambience. Love it!

What fun! Really enjoyed this Bethany, great to hear something different from solo piano (although don't get me wrong, I can't get enough solo piano!). Especially liked the percussion, and the stop at 2:24 followed by the marimba whole tone lead in.

Oh my goodness! This is SO very fun and I can totally imagine this in a game setting and love that your little one 'participated' by their instrument selection accidentally!

Haha, he changes the instruments constantly, it was serendipitous! Thanks so much :) and I have stocked up on the Oreos 😆

you know you're a pretty good composer. You are very cognisant of the notes shared between the scales and using them to create these new moods and transitions. You also play on a wide register, spreading the arrangement on many octaves (which makes me think that you are used to doing so maybe because you were trained as a classical pianist). I like the whole tone descent at 2:25. I thought for a second i might be waiting at a bus station and there is an announcement haha. but you landed back on the C, which is nice. How long does it take you to do these ?do you fix the ostenato in the left hand and start to fiddle around and build it from there ? Just curious because i have been training myself also in composition and its fun to ask these questions. I would also add a final note, that generaly speaking people who are skilled at harmonic and rythmical composition/arrangement often lack in phrasing/melody, which i might nudge you towards listening to great turkish music like Husnu Siledirichi (check out a piece called Les Ondes Eternel by Dhafer Youssef and Husnu or Birds Requiem by Dhafer Youssef) or Lebanese trumpet player Ibrahim Maalouf...
Thank you for putting the time into these, they are pretty interesting and creative

Whoops, I'm sorry I missed this comment - thank you very much! This was the first time I'd tried a piece like this; I'm usually much more melody-focused in my solo piano works, and went in a different direction here. Haha I'm glad you liked the whole tone scale! This one took me around a month, but 80% of that time was spent muddling through Logic/trying to mix and master, rather than on the composition itself. I just released another similar piece which took me about 3 days.
I'll check out those composers - I haven't listened to a lot of Turkish music.

Not knowledgeable to know if it works for a game, but I enjoyed it for itself. I wouldn't mind more like this. Very nice piece and I really like that marimba setting.

Thanks very much! No idea if it would work for a game, that's just where my head was at while composing... little cartoon fish and bubbles haha. Thank you!
