Luka held Marinette in a close embrace, hand cradling the back of her head with her cheek pressed flush against his chest. Adrien felt a stab of longing, and wished he could hear what Luka was saying-he knew, somehow, that it would be just what he needed to hear.
“Jealous?” Kagami asked, breaking Adrien out of his reverie. He could hear the smirk in her voice.
“I don’t know,” he answered honestly. “All I know is that-I’d like to be in Luka’s place.”
He imagined himself wrapping his arms around Marinette, confident that she would lean into him instead of away. Imagined stroking the back of her head as her anxious babbling drifted off into content silence. Imagined holding her close to his chest, protective over her slight frame.
Yes, he wanted that.
His attention shifted, and Adrien found himself imagining himself in Marinette’s place instead. Strong arms encircling him, soothing away his doubts. Pressing him close, head to chest, near enough to feel the warmth and hear a steady heartbeat beneath. A solid rock in the storm of his own uncertainty.
