I am 72. This takes me back to my teen years when I attended school at St. Gertrude's Academy, in Cottonwood Idaho. This place was also a large convent. I so enjoyed listening to the nuns sing every morning and evening. I am back there again as I listen..St Gertrude's Is no longer a school but continues as a convent. I do miss those days. Yet I smile as I listen not. Thank you dear Sisters. You are a blessing. This is the best meditation music I can listen to by far.
I am your age, and I participated in the morning praises of the Benedictine nuns for a whole year at 6 am, Participation and singing on my knees to thank the Lord for saving my life from a serious illness. I also remember those songs of the Psalms with nostalgia.

Primarily the chants are the Psalms. Sometimes they are quotes from the Gospels or are prayers. Either way, chants are SO VERY SOOTHING. Catholic chants are in Latin, but the Eastern church chants are in cyrillic. All of them are glorious.
Please look into Catholic Church. Read fathers of the Church, papal documents and more . Catholic Church has been vilified, lied about. Also read Luther. Then decide. I went to Catholic School from 1st to 8th grade. When I was in 2nd grade and making my first communion, in the early 60s , mass was in Latin, it was a proud time for me ,because I was allowed to join the choir . This music brings back such wonderful memories.

First time I heard hymns like this was LIVE, in an old little orthodox church in Georgia,(the country not the state). I’ll never forget it. The sound of voices praising God bouncing off of the ancient stone walls. It was indeed, a supernatural experience.

Even though i'm an atheist, I do regard the catholic tradition as one of the most beautiful religions. I love the chants and even meditate upon the rosary. I find it quite silly that so many in religious circles spend so much time fighting instead of embracing the beauty of ones own religion. It is the heart of humanity that cries out to be unified, in the midst of so much suffering and confusion. May our hearts dwell on the songs of angels and in the mind of grace.

ReasonIs WorthIt What brought me to God was forgetting to do a homework assignment, several actually. One night I jokingly prayed for God to extend the hand in date by a week. It was extended for three weeks. The second time my teacher wasn't in to collect it, the night before I'd started reading the bible. Then I started going to church, a Catholic church (I used to go to an Evangelical protestant church, which drove me to atheism) and I felt a lot happier and healthier. Catholicism appealed to me more so than Protestantism because Catholicism gave me a means for salvation, good deeds and strong prayer as opposed to just believing in God. Although I see what you mean by religion being driven by man, my good experience with Catholicism makes me less cynical about having a hierarchy. Although I do believe the second Vatican council to be too eager to compromise on doctrine and I regard Francis as a bad pope.

There are some zen, new age, cds listed here along with genuine Gregorian chant. I think that's what Espe Villasenor is referring to. I just cancel them and keep listening to what I'm interested in, the beautiful and inspirational Gregorian Chants.
The heavenly voice of the nuns compliment a fervent prayer. A feeling of joy descends upon me as I listen to the song. This type of songs made us more catholic devotees.

No, focusing in church teaching, I refuse to qualify it with a word like "divine", does none of these things. The schools you are probably referencing, Liberty and Oklahoma Wesleyan and such promote the mind controlling dogma of ancient fiction and tailor all of their education to promote it. Hardly objective. In regards to charities, I have seen religious groups and churches doing these things. And that is good. But when you look at the hate of the religious towards LGBT groups, and the conservative right, supported by the evangelicals, pushing for human rights abuses what little feeding the poor they do is drowned out. Plus, how do you explain taxing a poor, rural family on what little income they can make while mega churches are building multi-million dollar mansions on the backs of solicited donations and not paying a dime in taxes? But to keep church out of our government, they can keep their tax money. And your god has nothing to do with what happens in hospitals. That is SCIENCE and training. Because if your god can come down and heal a bunion off of a toe, why the fuck can he not get rid of bone cancer in children or stop the sex trafficking of countless people daily? Even though i'm an atheist, I do regard the catholic tradition as one of the most beautiful religions. I love the chants and even meditate upon the rosary. I find it quite silly that so many in religious circles spend so much time fighting instead of embracing the beauty of ones own religion. It is the heart of humanity that cries out to be unified, in the midst of so much suffering and confusion. May our hearts dwell on the songs of angels and in the mind of grace.
As a meat eating, straight, female identifying, non-crosfitter I enjoy this as well.

General Belisarius that's cool! How long were you an atheist? What certain things brought you to catholicism rather than the rather confused yet convinced counterpart of protestantism? For me the evidence always points to religion being defined, dictated and driven by more by man than divine.
ReasonIs WorthIt What brought me to God was forgetting to do a homework assignment, several actually. One night I jokingly prayed for God to extend the hand in date by a week. It was extended for three weeks. The second time my teacher wasn't in to collect it, the night before I'd started reading the bible. Then I started going to church, a Catholic church (I used to go to an Evangelical protestant church, which drove me to atheism) and I felt a lot happier and healthier. Catholicism appealed to me more so than Protestantism because Catholicism gave me a means for salvation, good deeds and strong prayer as opposed to just believing in God. Although I see what you mean by religion being driven by man, my good experience with Catholicism makes me less cynical about having a hierarchy. Although I do believe the second Vatican council to be too eager to compromise on doctrine and I regard Francis as a bad pope.

There are some zen, new age, cds listed here along with genuine Gregorian chant. I think that's what Espe Villasenor is referring to. I just cancel them and keep listening to what I'm interested in, the beautiful and inspirational Gregorian Chants.

No, focusing in church teaching, I refuse to qualify it with a word like "divine", does none of these things. The schools you are probably referencing, Liberty and Oklahoma Wesleyan and such promote the mind controlling dogma of ancient fiction and tailor all of their education to promote it. Hardly objective. In regards to charities, I have seen religious groups and churches doing these things. And that is good. But when you look at the hate of the religious towards LGBT groups, and the conservative right, supported by the evangelicals, pushing for human rights abuses what little feeding the poor they do is drowned out. Plus, how do you explain taxing a poor, rural family on what little income they can make while mega churches are building multi-million dollar mansions on the backs of solicited donations and not paying a dime in taxes? But to keep church out of our government, they can keep their tax money. And your god has nothing to do with what happens in hospitals. That is SCIENCE and training. Because if your god can come down and heal a bunion off of a toe, why the fuck can he not get rid of bone cancer in children or stop the sex trafficking of countless people daily? It is not the "divine" getting infected with the human part. It is humanity getting infected with self righteous religion and forgetting we are all made of the same stuff. So no, your "divinity" is not fascinating. It is sick, perverted, and holding us back as a species.
