@jacobfoster1382 I'm a year late replying, but I think he meant that eliminating both actually makes this race a bit easier. Their rubberband AI is what makes this race hard. Plus, around Lap 3, they attack you. Still, in my experience, I have seen Zoda and Skull (he's a villain only in the anime), become a challenge and steal the W at the last second. Goroh, Pico and Michael, they only attack you upon being at close proximity.

Jonathan Backo There are very few differences. One being in chapter 5. On PAL and NTSC-U, you have roughly 0.5 seconds after the initial time to make it to the goal. On the japanese version you explode instantly after the time is up. The other one is that the japanese version has unique textures for some of the stages and some special custom parts (which can only be unlocked with Action Replay nowadays). That's all the differences I know of. The gameplay is the same

yeah, destroying an enemy vehicle with an attack does replenish some of your energy.
No, I mostly just mess around in Story Mode and Grand Prix.
