My Porsche mechanic buys old 924's and 944's. Strips them and builds race cars w V-8 LS swaps. Very successful in his races.. Almost tempted to get him to build me one.
Hi Mike. I thought I'd leave a comment because I owned a '78 Porsche 924 many, many years ago, when I was 18 years old. It was a great car for a young kid, because it had great breaks, handled very well, and it had a tiny little engine that put out so little power that I couldn't have gotten into trouble if I wanted to. LOL. You asked about the top speed, and I would guess it was probably no more than 110 or 120 MPH. It's a nice looking car, but it was just not a very good car. I later got an '84 Porsche 944, and that was a decent upgrade. Top speed wasn't much higher, and I do remember it had a 0-60 time of 8.3 seconds! Yeah, that wasn't a typo. The normally aspirated 4-cylinder engines in the 924/944 weren't much to brag about. If the car you were looking at was a 944, and particularly a 944 Turbo, it might be worth looking at fixing up. The 924, however, was really just not much to get too excited about. Anyway, thanks for the video, and good luck in your ventures!
@@semiretired86 I agree. Even the turbocharged 924s weren't much to write home about. The newest version 924s that I believe had the same engine as the 944, might not have been bad, but all the old ones like my '78, and even the turbos, were pretty much underpowered junk.
You have come such a long way in your walk around videos mike ! Your funny and keep it interesting and fun !! Keep it up I see your views climbing up everyday !!
The leather of the front seats always torn because MBZ didn't asked their vendor to sewing with " French Seam " which is a very strong sewing technique when sewing fabric or even leather together !
This was another great walk around I enjoyed this alot and man that sucks about that kia stinger being totaled it is once beautiful car and I love the color of it but that thing is a goner she's totaled and that sucks. Anyways thanks for sharing keep up the great work much love to ya mike have a good one take care god bless and I will see ya on the next one
The Porsche 924 would make the perfect candidate for a mechanical refresh. Get it running and driving, some nice alloy wheels and some replacement seats. Leave the body work as is and drive and enjoy it for what it is.
As I watched you climb into the KIA (Impressive I must say) I was thinking of something you could carry with you easily and that would let you push the brake pedal without all the gymnastics. My daughter is a dancer and had a hip-hop routine where they posed as old ladies. She had a cane that folds up in a small package and is very lightweight. That would be about perfect for that job and would double as something to hold up hoods that don't want to stay up. Thanks again for another great video.
Buy the 924. It is a great project and your local maco can show what they can do. Foam and seat upholstery is not that expensive. New carpet is also cheap. I’ll bet you it will do great on your channel.
Han's Garage has a 1982 Turbo 924 he just rebuilt. Currently testing the engine rebuild. Also has a couple 944 and a recently acquired a 2009 Cayenne S.
I’m really shocked how worn the inside of that GLC is. People moaned about the quality dip between the w140 and w220, but this is another league…torn leather, white buttons.
The red flag for the Porsche,924 is that the spark plugs were removed. I wouldn't give more than $250 for it. I really don't need another project car that going to take hundreds of hours to restore with no real value in it when done.
The 924 is a good parts car for someone. Not worth restoring, but will keep another on the road for a bit longer. When you lifted the bonnet on the Merc I half expected to see my old Jeep engine in it. I think though, wasn't it the ML320 and the Grand Cherokee that shared the same engine?
Hey Mike, why don’t you ask if you can carry a jump pack for all the cars with flat batteries? I’ve got to be honest I’ve never understood shiny wood trim in cars as it looks like plastic. Thanks for the content. Cheers Pat🇦🇺
Hey Mike you and Randy should keep an eye out for all those cars that got plowed over by the bulldozer from California soon to be coming to copart yards.
I feel your pain with crawling over the seats to start a car I have to do the same thing when I do my copart walk arounds on my channel have a great day my friend
Still refusing to carry a booster-pack? This won´t help to raise the number of subscribers as most of us want to know: Will it run? If so, what will it sound like? What seem to be the issue with this or that noise? Good aftermarket exhaust? etc.
🎉 Mikey needs to trade his Coca Cola Big Q drink for something healthier if he wants to keep hopping from the passenger seat to the driver seat with such grace!!! 🎉 (Seriously, thats a lot of daily sugars! Not good for your health!! hehe)
Kia... who r u kidding... you are a Benz / BMW guy... for a bit of fun pick up the 924... Im sure you will get a lot of views working on it as so many people buy the baby Porsche/Audi !

I have seen alot of cool swaps put into these old Porsches including LS swaps, Honda K swaps and Toyota 2J or 1J swaps

if it's not a turbo 924 and 944/964 it's worth restoring non turbos aren't worth restoring

Haha this was fun to read! Ty for sharing
Mike you need that Porsche on the channel!!!!🤘😎🤘
that Porsche is a prime candidate for restoration IF you can get it at a good price!
At 42k miles that Kia is just about ready for its first engine replacement
I really like those interior colors on the white Mercedes

I like your channel, Mike. All best to you. 👋🏻👍🏻
9:53 this sequence of events needs to get remixed and used in a new intro 😂😂
Random comment, but I just found one of mike's old news broadcasts blooper after I watched a video of randy interviewing him. Its funny!
Good video 😀

The white Mercedes has a frame issue on the right rear. I noticed the door trim does not line up. Probably why it was totaled.
liked the stinger

Don't forget to double check the water line.
I like the Benz, Mike ✌

Hey Mike you and Randy should keep an eye out for all those cars that got plowed over by the bulldozer from California soon to be coming to copart yards.
924 often biggest problem is the outdated mechanical fuel injection. The 924 has terrific road handling like the 944 sibling!
Save it Mike! SAVE IT!!!!!!
Any more Saab stuff coming soon?
Here's a wild idea: Get both the Stinger and the 924, then put the 924 body onto the Stinger platform.
Mike work on the video keep pushing blessings
I feel your pain with crawling over the seats to start a car I have to do the same thing when I do my copart walk arounds on my channel have a great day my friend
I remember the 924 was originally intended as a VW sport car
That stinger got stung
924 make a good parts car since parts are hard to find...
Lmao!!! I’m from KY, it’s a roof!!!!😂
No comment you know the car i want to see on your channel
Love this European variety...
Yes save the Porsche
Com On Baby Let's Do The Twist 😁😂😂😂😂😂😂
This Porsche is much better and more interesting than your weird flooded spaghetti car

bid on the porsche
you already have the Ghibli... but where is it Mike?
Jeez! You gotta feel sorry for the Porsche. Who neglects a car like that?
924 is a money pit
Wouldn't bother with the 924. Frankly, only the 944 turbo or S2 is worth the effort.
Hello Mike aka Monkey Wrench Mike. The 2017 Mercedes is a decent looking SUV with rear end damage. The Kia Stinger is a decent car that got T-boned
It's got a manual transmission. It might be worth it. Obviously it needs paint. Detailing.
I’m convinced you don’t like cars that run. Just cars that are broken beyond repair
Save the 924 and glc

i like mercedes suvs.
A big No to the 924.
They aren't that great to begin with.
Parts are going to be expensive.
It's in pretty rough shape.
Hard pass on the 924 Mikey.
Porsche is poop mikey😢
Hey Mike Lola Benzo the wonder duck.
You shouldn’t drink and buy cars it messes with your judgment you buy old Mercedes and Maserati submarines 😊
