oogachaka you’re completely right, I don’t fully understand both sides of the story. I just think in a polarized nation such as this one it’s a breath of fresh air to see two people who support opposing parties talk to each other humanely.

Y’know even if you hate Chris Christie and call him a beached whale and a do nothing republican, liar/cheater etc. you gotta appreciate Trevor bringing him on to do this interview. They disagree on plenty of things and they’re on opposite teams but they’re talking about stuff without being total douches, which I think is important in today’s political climate.
I don't agree with him politically but he is the few Republicans I could see voting for. Problem is the Republican base would push him to far to the right for me to actually do that.
This is how conversations should be!! You can disagree with someone's politics and views but you CAN BE CIVIL TO EACH OTHER!! I love Trevor for such amazing interviews..!!
Met Trevor at 6 flags and the guy was super down to earth and polite. Talked to him for a couple times at the park while hopping to other rides. Total respectable man and his history is so amazing with his hard work on getting him to where he is now. Christy is a stand up guy as well and if he ran he'd get my vote.
Not just to Trump, but to everyone. He says what he thinks people want to hear and uses it to advance his own success. It's not uncommon for a politician, in fact it's not necessarily a BAD tactic when used in reasonable doses, but he does it to such an excessive degree that it's astounding. He knows right now that slamming the Trump administration in a book and playing the victim is lucrative and potentially will improve his chances of success in his political career, so he did it. Very little about this man is genuine.
Dom Jay wasn’t it though? That’s all I could say as I watched. Chris Christie is a clown but it gives a little insight hearing it all. I always thought Kushner and Ivanka were making policy...seems like they are running it all. Trump had no intention of winning and he did and here we are...smh
It’s all true, that’s what’s scary! I’m an Independent and it’s galled me since Day 1 that the media didn’t cover it before the election. Why not? Simple: Kushner was being investigated for using charity funds that he was supposed to manage in order to become the largest DNC fundraiser in NJ.
This is to tell you how thirty Jeered is!! And that makes White house thirty!! Because thirty People are working in the White house!! I mean who does that?? Who higher a hooker to seduce his own Sisters Husband just to keep him silent from saying the truth!! That's absolutely Unshakeable and DUMB!!
Charisma is a thing...but honestly, judge ppl by what they do. His actions speak for itself, so yea, do i like the guy for a chat? sure. would i give him ANY responsibility again? no way.
In most of these comments praising him, I notice they say that they don't know that much about him. If they did, they would definitely be seeing this interview in a different light.
@TNM001 exactly where I'm at with this dude. Can't lie and say he doesn't have his moments, but there's some atrocious shit in his history. Nevertheless, I have to be fair and give him that he IS a very interesting guest to have on a talk show, because he usually doesn't shy away from getting real when you ask the right questions, no matter what I may think of him, I do feel his answers are genuine and he cares very little how you receive them. Weirdly, there's one politician whose words I trust but whose actions I usually hate..
Now...THIS...was an interesting watch, wow a real honest man (Chris)...I was very surprised to see/ hear him not back off and also speaking the truth, Republicans NEVER do that, well done Sir....
@Black Rod well, at least he appears human, that's way more you can say about the current cabinet IOW, he clears the bar, but only because the bar is so low
Lol no he doesn't. There is a staff of researchers who do the reading and then give him those talking points to discuss. He sure does not have time to read all the books of his guests each time they appear.

@@nikkite922 There's nothing in my initial comment that suggests saltiness. But whatever. And yes you can dwell on specific details when others have gone through it already and have made notes for you to dwell on those details. He's after all the one doing the interview not the other way round so it's likely he goes over those talking points with his staff before they even get on the show. It's not very hard to do honestly. Also, I know a few students who can really yap about a book or text they haven't read in detail. I used to be one of them. ;-)
92Kwame Of course he reads the book. Everybody doing serious interviews should have read the book. Two evenings before sleep and you’re done. Why wouldn’t you read it? Apparently you and more of a Trump „I don’t read - ever!“ kind of person. How very American of you... I would be surprised if there was any serious journalist who doesn’t read the material to prepare for an interview of this format. It would be very embarrassing if that became public.
I rewatched the interview and you can see that Trevor actually reads the books of the guests. Yes he has queue cards, but he barely uses them and the follow up questions are on point which can just be done by somebody who knows the material and not just parts of it. I'm so glad Jon chose him! He is so damn good!
And it's not rushed, he gets to finish his thoughts and Trevor has really thought through all the questions and has clearly read the book as well. Really really good! 💪❤

A lot of that came from The Sopranos and The Jersey Shore (many of them New Yorkers, btw), but yeah we are not highly religious, overall. Most of all, evangelicals are very rare around here. It’s mostly Catholics in terms of Christianity, which I’d guess is the real basis of his comment ultimately. The Christians here aren’t that hardcore, basically. This is a liberal state, so Bible bumping Pence is not the norm.

Trevor has a way of bringing out the best in people that I don't like. It reminds me of his interview with Lindsey Graham, who was completely different from the Lindsey Graham we normally see in the media. For a second, these interviews make you forget what these people are really like. Yes, they're smooth politicians, so they know what to say to manipulate voters, but Noah's interviews always seem to have a lot more substance than the usual interview. Makes me wonder what Trump would be like in an interview with Noah.
i litterally read your comment and said "oh god" out loud to him interviewing trump, i would LOVE to see that, but i dont think trump could handle the underhanded sarcasm small jabs, to get the truth out, that trevor would throw and trump would most likely go crazy like scream fake news or "we need a wall" and walk out lol!
Trump could barely take Stephen Colbert's outwardly dislike for him nor could he take Dave Letterman exposing how shitty his clothing line is and they're not straight political satire shows like The Daily Show. I doubt he would even sit down to talk to Noah.
very true! When Trevor first came onto the show I was a bit skeptical about his approach, but he has definitely become a fantastic interviewer and entertainer. and when I learned that Jon Stewart had a say on who took over the show, I can see why he picked him.
Well, I dont think I will ever agree with him politicly, but he can answer questions and take part in a mature conversation. That is far too unusual nowdays.
Agreed! I appreciate the fact that comedy Central put skis online for us to watch uncut and without commercials. I could have watched that for another 22 minutes!
Christie didn'tcome out of it looking too bad either. I wonder if this gets more candidates on both sides to come on The Daily Show to polish their images? 😛
Seriously would have liked this video a thousand times. I m so facinated how Chris has so clear understanding of things which are required to be done along with the responsibility of being accountable......
This is a refreshingly good interview. I love the honesty. It's not a normal talk with a politician just rehashing talking points over and over no matter the question.
I respect Chris Christie's ability to direct your gaze. "These are the things I saw could happen, this is why I stepped into a position that could ruin me in the public eye. If you judge me, judge me for that."
Christie grew on me ...I could not stand this guy but he proved to be a truer friend to Trump than all his cronies...he tells the truth at least of late during trumps admin even when he was not selected but always was kept close to the president but we know the one foot out is Kushner that's why he would never be in fully but still voted for him twice...he still has years ahead hope something happens for him but if he runs for president he does not have my vote but wish him well. Kudos Trevor, I love your interviews, you engage well with your guests and you always get them comfortable and get them talking.
I'm not a fan of Christie, but I have to give him one thing: he's one of the *very* few republicans who isn't too craven to come on shows like the Daily Show or to Stephen Colbert. All the other republican cowards are peeing their pants. (Of course he only does it because he wants to sell his book, but still... ^^)
@@starstuff100 Yeah, but he can also hold his own in a conversation any can formulate sentences to his advantage very quickly. He likes attention, but he also does well under attention. Ergo, he isn't as vulnerable as other republicans, who do similar shit but aren't as charismatic.

This is the best interview Christie has ever done. And that is a lot of credit to Trevor. Even though I don’t always agree with Christie, sitting with someone like Trevor, he’s relaxed and can be sincere. I really enjoyed this which is something I never thought I would say about a Christie interview.
Good interview by Trevor, really shows what a career politician Chris Christie is. No morals, no pride, no ideology, pure opportunism just finding ways to get into power and staying there. "I wanted to join Donald Trump when I saw he would win, because I wanted to help him to be a better leader." How he can say this with a straight face and without a smirk on his face is AMAZIN.
I am not a fan of Chris Chistie's but I have to say he does seem more based in reality than a majority of the republican political pundits. I do not know what else to call him right now as he does not hold an office.
@@cameronguilbeau5888 I think Stephen is less willingly to try to understand aka engaging in a two way conversation like Trevor always said, and is more eager to held Chris Christie accountable for the things he had done and said but still with a decent amount of respect. Magrat Knoblauch Likeable and funny, yes. Honest? That's a *hard* no. Please look into his history a little more. He's just as crooked as Trump and Kushner.
People weren't mad at him because he made an unpopular political decision. There were incensed because he shut down a PUBLIC beach so his family could enjoy it privately. It had nothing to do with a political judgement. It was all about taking advantage of your position as an entitled autocrat.
yes, and he never denied that. and trevor didnt ask that question. he asked how it was to go from liked to hated, and tbf, chrsitie didnt dodge that one.
I wonder if it had something to do with safety and receiving threats. I'd imagine he didn't get to spend a lot of time with his family while he was working, and/or if he did, he'd get public attacks/insults. He was probably getting a lot of heat from his family to be more present and he ended up pulling a lot of strings to get that family day at the beach which the rest of us take for granted.
That was A GREAT conversation. Well done, Trevor. And kudos to you, too, governor. Wow...two adults speaking intelligently and respectfully in this day and age, and on a comedy show! Great stuff. Makes me hopeful for a better future.
I'm surprised that Chris Christie didn't get eaten alive when he was on Colbert but he somehow made it out. Don't think he makes a great political leader, but he's probably a better political analyst and commentator
He's definitely smart and funny. I don't agree with him on a lot, if any, political issues, but he'd definitely make a good commentator. Hell, even a right-wing late night show host, lol. He's good with the crowd. And if republican voters had something to laugh about, maybe they wouldn't vote so miserably.
When he was on Colbert, I busted out in laughter for how fast he said "yes" to the question of "could you do a better job as president than Trump." tbh what's killing it for me is that a lot of these right-winged (and even left-winged) insiders doing these tours on late-night television is just to sell their books. It kinda feels like advertisement disguised as entertainment, but that's just probably me being cynical. I miss boring politics back when it wasn't used to bait people into clicks for viewership, ya know?
@@ResidentTarantinoI'd say at least 95% of late night interviews and appearances are basically people trying to promote something or raise their political profile for some sort of office, I'm sure that's just a part of that industry

Damnnnn, Trevor. Not even a minute in and he's already roasting this sychophantic fool.
How is he sychophantic? Is it because he's kissing up to trump? I'm a godless heathen foreigner, and your american politics are unfamiliar to me.

@Urrcreavesh I think we're saying the same thing. You don't need to remind me of what Graham is really like.
Trump could barely take Stephen Colbert's outwardly dislike for him nor could he take Dave Letterman exposing how shitty his clothing line is and they're not straight political satire shows like The Daily Show. I doubt he would even sit down to talk to Noah.
