    Nice video, i think than my work mode in revit ever was the professional mode in my projects on school, ever searched do very similar with the professional architecture. What not is hard, in Brasil the most part architects are very carefree with quality in your projects.

    Yes, and so in most cases Revit for students is not BIM.

    Very important to work in a non-destructive and consistent manner in terms of standards, naming and process when working in a team or sharing a model, but still probably a good way to work as a student also.

    It's very refreshing to view your helpful experiences! Old architect* here, who remembers how such things as "renderings" were farmed-out to artists. We called such things " eyewash" :-)
    *like many, remembering the joys of lead-on-vellum. Go ahead, laff :-) MicroStation came along ('80?, for me), & "push-button" architecture became the way. A LOT of otherwise good eyesight became lost for that, & Designers seemed to have gotten FATTER, for always sitting & staring at screens.
    I still think the best designs originate from pencil-on-envelope-backs. Something about the glide of a #2 pencil that seems to make magic happen easiest. No license to buy, no gizmo to turn on, & one's mind can focus on Design rather than which button to push :-)
    I think your Papa would agree :-)

    “BIM in academia should mirror the real world profession and practice as close as possible, but should try to push the envelope of Architecture. It should aim still for being potentially legally and physically achievable to build. Never let BIM make a design decision for you based on its limitations, if you need plug-ins or have to write your own code to achieve your intent then you do just that,”
    one of my professors that taught BIM.
    The families I made for academic purposes were absolutely crazy twisty column things that look great…. but only in 3D views, unless you only use the one size you needed and don’t change the two or three parameters you put in.

    Hello Balkan, great video. Very informative. I'm not really good at Revit but I do have question. I find Revit not an easy software to do complex modelling. To do fluidic and organic shapes in particular. 90° shapes and certain angular members are easy though. So how can you solve this? Do you do the complex shapes in some other software and later import it to Revit and add details? Or is it very frustrating? Is Revit a good option for product design? Especially for modelling furniture. Please share your thoughts.
    Thanks

    • @karlcorrz
      @karlcorrz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Revit is BIM which means building information modeling. Its specifically for Building use. For furniture I suggest Rhino 3D or even Inventor

  • @TheBheringEmanuel

    Ok, I undestand your point, but is not possible to achieve a level in revit that you be able to do cool shapes with good construction details ? If it is so difficult to achieve a good level o fidelity, what softwares large architecture firms use to do those amazing buildings ? Catia (like gehry)?

    • @Asbjoern
      @Asbjoern 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They use Revit or other software of the same kind. Students just don't know shit and get easily impressed with fancy curves. Kind of a shame because a lot of people leave school not knowing how much space piping needs, for example.

    Difficult to do detail drawings in real life like window or doors details. More Engineering or drafting skills then designing etc. see standard graphics. In USA, 5 years to do drafting instead of designing.

    Would you recommend using a student version of Revit or Auto CAD in a professional environment?, (the only difference I see, Student Versus Professional licensed version, is the stamp when you print/output, that can be removed using Adobe), is there any other difference?

    So i don't understand what they use to teach in your schools. In Europe professors care much less about the shape and more about the reality of the design. Beautiful, yes but also close to reality.
