Descendants and Pit Fighter = awesome episode. Pit Fighter Genesis was amazing. The attentional to detail is unbelievable. It was as arcade perfect as it could have been. The fighting mechanics are great. Dashes, weapons, attacking opponents on the ground, spectators getting involved, etc.

Pit-Fighter is unbelievably classic. I first rented it back in the day (for our Genesis) for the weekend and a few of our non-gaming friends showed up. It was a monumental hit because of how crazy the sound and animations get. And the sidelines filled with angry bystanders willing to kick you or your opponent just sealed the deal for entertainment. Yeah, Genesis Pit-Fighter is still in our house collection and every once in a while is a must play. Great work!

Pit Fighter for Genesis and the actual arcade game were amazing when they came out. Sad that so many shitty ports made people think the game was bad. I still remember playing the arcade game for the first time. It was mind blowing.

Gotta love the power pill in Pit Fighter, I think it was a reference to performance enhancing drug (PED) commonly used by professional sports athletes.

Back in the 90s, we rented this from the video store for the SNES, in the manual someone had written ''This game sucks''

I remember being introduced to Pit Fighter through Midway Arcade Treasures vol. 2 on PS2. I was still drawn to it because I like the digitized aesthetic and it was much easier than Mortal Kombat. xD

This is one of my most played Megadrive games, I could never understand the hate pit fighter got because I played it so much back then and I always thought it was fun, then I saw the other ports years later and can some what understand the hate, lucky I only knew about the mega drive version back then, I felt like I was in a van damme movie working my way up to the big boss lol, fun times!

I'm with you 100% on this one for both versions. My local fair was my main way to play arcade games as a kid, and every September for four days it was heaven. I remember rushing up there on the first day with my friends to scour the arcades. The whole outer ring of the field was filled with seperate vendors, so you would have about fifteen seperate arcades to go to. We walked into the entrance of one and there in front of us was the brand new Pit Fighter, and it was awesome. I fell in love instantly, I was a huge wrestling fan and Buzz became my man. As a Nintendo kid I even suffered that port, convincing myself that it was actually good. Thankfully many years late0 r I discovered the Megadrive and its port. It really Is an impressive version. Like you I still play and enjoy the arcade version. Great episode as always.

I think the only console port I've ever played of Pit Fighter was on a Midway collection on the PS2, am I remembering that right? I enjoyed it though, for a brief period at least, never played it back in the day but I can imagine it would've drawn a crowd at the time. I was a confirmed Mortal Kombat addict as a kid though.

I swear that Pit-Fighter was the game that people played but no one really liked. The arcade was popular because of how it looked which for the time was amazing, but those home ports *SNES Drunk review comes to mind*.
I know nothing about the Genesis version so thanks for making this video and the rest of your content.

Having just watched someone try and play the Lynx port, this looks more fun to play. The arcade is locked in my brain as the best from childhood arcade trips.

I didn't know until a few years ago that Game Genie/Action Replay codes exist to play as all of the boss characters. Not EGM SFII boss code rubbish, completely playable within the limitations of the characters. I was actually surprised at how well they worked and was left scratching my head why Tengen didn't make it an official feature.

I liked Pit Fighter on Sega and had some good times taking it on. Its got that weird charm and seems a bit late 80s/early 90s like a Steven Segal movie. Took me a while but I was able to beat it. CGR did a fun review of it that got me to give it a shot when I found it complete for like 5$ at a local shop.

I thought I was the only Pit Fighter fan out there, lol! Yeah at the time I thought the arcade game was ahead of it's time, with the digitized graphics. Also I was thinking with the crowds of people all ready to push you back in the fight, attack you, or throw more weapons in was amazing

I remember renting the SNES version as a kid.
I played it for about 15 minutes and then spent the rest of the weekend outside.
I still wonder what I could have done with that $3.00.

Love the shirt. I managed to see the Descendents on the Hypercaffium tour a few years back. They were really good.
Anyway, while Pitfighter is not a great game, I thought the Genesis port was fun, and still pop it in about once a year. I like that you fight in a 3D wrestling ring type of setting, it's a nice change of pace from the standard 2D fighter set up that most of the popular fighting games from that era share. Plus, it's fun picking up weapons and things from the crowd, adds a little variety.

    • @snowcon3
      @snowcon3  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes! I was there at that tour as well. They're great every time. I got to see them the first time in 96 right before Everything Sucks came out. One of my favorite bands of all time!

By no means a ‘good game’ and I appreciate that but it’s one that blew me away in the arcade at the time and I sunk a tonne of time into it. Like yourself the pcb was one of the first I picked up as I have a huge soft spot for this one!

Pit-Fighter may be one of the most victimized games by "Internet Revisionism". The arcade original was very popular, and it was great, especially for its time. I think a big part of the hate it gets is from the SNES port. I remember playing this a lot in the arcades, the one they had at our local Photon (think Lazer Tag, but way better- check it out if you ve never heard of it) is one comes to mind for me.

Pit Fighter was a piece of shit no matter the platform. I played it recently on MAME with invincibility turned on and it's still nearly impossible to beat. They just recycling the same enemies and it is one of those games where you take damage no matter what.
I forgot they threw swastikas at each other.
