I don’t know why someone use “yellow banana “ to Zheng Qinwen during the game. Usually “yellow bananas “ is teasing name or metaphor for Asian people such as Malaysia and Singapore people, who are Chinese descent, but received English education and cannot speak Chinese, which means like Banana-outside appearance is yellow, inside is white flesh, ie. Non-white Asians with western/white education. The word itself doesn’t mean any discrimination, and it is actually quite popular among the 华人in South East Asians. I am a Chinese-Australian from Shanghai. Among the Asian doctor’s meeting, I learned this word from Malaysia doctors, they acknowledged they are “bananas”, because they are Malaysia 华人，但不会说中文. So this word itself has got nothing to do with discrimination against Asian. I don’t know why this person use this word to Zheng Qinwen? I guess himself doesn’t understand this word’s real meaning, wrongly used as an abuse word towards Zheng Qinwen. As a matter of fact, Zheng Qinwen should be proud to be called “banana”, because she is Chinese, but can speak good English and played white people’s sports very well, even better than them. 所以中国人也应该了解这种谚语的来源包括郑钦文，这样就不会觉得被冒犯，一笑而过就是了
To call someone a yellow banana is considered offensive or derogatory. It is used to call an Asian who has assimilated into the white culture and lost his/her heritage. It doesn't apply only to Malaysian or Singaporean Chinese.
