  • Barry appearing live on This Morning on the 14th March 2011, Starting the program with interviewing Barry on the sofa and also singing can't smile without you and his new song Bring On Tomorrow on the Videos before this on the channel. Seen him live twice at Birmingham in the Eighties and he was brilliant. He is currently playing in Las Vegas. Barry Manilow (born June 17, 1943) is an American singer--songwriter, musician, arranger, producer, conductor, and performer, best known for such recordings as "Could It Be Magic", "Mandy", "Can't Smile Without You", and "Copacabana (At the Copa)."
In 1978, five of his albums were on the best-selling charts simultaneously, a feat equalled only by Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Mathis. He has recorded a string of Billboard hit singles and multi-platinum albums that have resulted in his being named Radio & Records number one Adult Contemporary artist and winning three straight American Music Awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist. Several well-known entertainers have given Manilow their "stamp of approval," including Sinatra, who was quoted in the 1970s regarding Manilow, "He's next." In 1988, Bob Dylan stopped Manilow at a party, hugged him and said, "Don't stop what you're doing, man. We're all inspired by you."
As well as producing and arranging albums for other artists, such as Bette Midler and Dionne Warwick, Manilow has written songs for musicals, films, and commercials. Since February 2005, he had been the headliner at the Las Vegas Hilton, and had performed hundreds of shows before he called time on his 5-year association, performing his last show on December 30, 2009. From March 2010, he has headlined at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.
Manilow was born Barry Alan Pincus to Harold Pincus and Edna Manilow. His mother's family was Jewish, while his father, who was often known by the surname "Keliher," was born to a Jewish father and Irish American mother. Reared in the community of Williamsburg in northern Brooklyn, Barry attended nearby Eastern District High School, from which he graduated in 1961. In the same year, he enrolled in the Juilliard performing arts school, while working at CBS to pay his expenses. It is believed to be at this approximate time that he adopted his mother's maiden family name for his own professional name.
At CBS, in 1964, Manilow met Bro Herrod, a director, who asked him to arrange some songs for a musical adaptation of the melodrama, The Drunkard. Instead, Manilow wrote an entire original score. Herrod used his composition in the Off Broadway musical, which enjoyed an eight year run at New York's 13th Street Theatre. Manilow then earned money by working as a pianist, producer, and arranger.
During this time he began to work as a commercial jingle writer, an activity that continued well into the 1970s. Many of those he wrote and/or composed he would also perform, including State Farm Insurance ("Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there..."), and Band-Aid ("I am stuck on Band-Aid, 'cause Band-Aids stick on me!"). His singing-only credits include Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pepsi, Dr Pepper, and the famed McDonald's "You Deserve a Break Today" campaign. Manilow won 2 Clio Awards in 1976 for his work for Tab and Band-Aid. These jingles were a mainstay of his concerts for years as his "V.S.M.," or "Very Strange Medley."
By 1967, Manilow was the musical director for the WCBS-TV series Callback, which premiered on January 27, 1968. He next conducted and arranged for Ed Sullivan's production company, arranging a new theme for The Late Show, while still writing, producing, and singing his radio and television jingles. At the same time, he and Jeanne Lucas performed as a duo for a two-season run at New York's Upstairs at the Downstairs club.
Manilow made headlines in June 2006 when Australian officials blasted his music between 9pm until midnight every Friday, Saturday and Sunday to deter gangs of youths from congregating in a residential area late at night. On July 18, 2006, Manilow released a tongue-in-cheek statement saying that the youths might like his music.
On August 29, 2006, Manilow had hip surgery at a Southern California hospital. According to his press release, he tore the labrum (cartilage) in both hips. When the symptoms of extreme pain and discomfort did not go away following preliminary treatment, an MRI arthogram was performed and the labrum tears were discovered.
Manilow's first appearance back from the surgery took place at a concert in Atlantic City, with Barry springing forth from in a golden wheelchair and holding his 2006 Emmy for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.

My mother and I have adored Barry since I was 16 years old, I am now turning 60! Mum (and often Dad) and I went to concerts together. I've lost count of how many I've been to. A consummate musician and entertainer, totally unique. The concert at Blenheim palace was one of the best days of my life.

The man is a legend. The absolute epitome of what a musician and a performer is supposed to be. He is so professional, and so outrageously talented! He's so underrated and it's a damn shame! Outside of his hits all of his album cuts are brilliant. He puts his heart and soul into every track and every performance. he's wonderful

Barry had come to Chicago for his first vacation of a lenght of a week. He was happy and I was pleased. On the sixth day we sat down and decided that all of his vacationing here might seem conspicuous. So I asked him to prepare to leave on the seventh day, and he did. He left Chicago his usual way and the family likes to say seven is God's number. So Barry was taken from us into God's care. And we just watched as he was barrage by these resort cities with imposing request.

      dear girls!
Having said that I do not know where to reply. I just want to say I am Italian and not American but I do not speak English well. I remember that I was 11 years old when I heard a music for barry manilow, that here in Italy is a complete stranger. I fell in love instantly, and yet I can not conceive the worship of idols. I have often wondered why I loved him, and not one Italian. there are so many. and I admit that when I saw his face sfreggiato by vanity and appearance I pianto.pianto because my angel was dead panned by the desire for eternal youth (a very bad example to tell the truth). because I loved her nose, for example, but he did not hesitate to go under the knife just to get him out.
dear coco, do not know how I would be wrong ....! he was the lead singer of my adolescence ... then explain why it changed so much, even the character, now so rude and aloof ...! so much disrespect to a disabled person (remember July 4).

      coco99 hello coco ...
I have always ... I write to you because at the moment because I feel sad and confused ...! I wanted to say that I am very disappointed, because I think that barry manilow is the biggest disappointment of my life. I wondered how he could, innamorasi one with so little talent such as spears! saying that she, with those four notes out of tune she does, she sang for him and he is innamorato.come can you be so superfiali to lose his head for a pretty little face and nothing more.
I find it unfair because I also study singing ... but I think I probably would have told you to stay on a diet! as did many altri.come for the fact that he said he had never been innamarato. I'm hungry and full of love! I do not understand how you can be so empty!
Thank you for having responded to my previous message hello

Anamaria i agree with you about Brittney spears and a couple of others that Barry likes but it is his choice and i am not empty i am a christian and i know so much about Barry and take my word for it he is a lovely considerate charitable man he has helped so many people with his songs and his charrities.God has blessed him and we all make mistakes in what we say or do no one is perfect.

      coco99 no coco,
You know what I think? I think if I were to one day become a great singer and he came to me to say "that amazing voice!", I think that would give it a big kick in the butt to go ... adding the spears! that is so good with pornographic arsenals and sing in playback sempre.mi dearest apologize if my English is not good and you can have frainteso.la emptiness of spirit was not referring to you. but the late barry manilow, you might not have realized that a girl like that to have sex with him, he would only pity! seen dudes who loves super geeks and fashion models. you're a pretty sweet person and I'm glad you're so polite!
