I am not a long time viewer, your appearance on Mark's channel was my first introduction to Mr. Lurch. Immediately I knew that this is a person I want to follow. Thank you for returning to a world that needs you.
8:33 That is a 60Hz crystal oscillator which drives the Time of Day clocks inside the CIAs. This is different to a C64 which just uses the AC line frequency.
Glad to see you back for a video, and glad that you are enjoying it again. Look after yourself firstly, and if (when?) you decide to do another video, there'll be people ready to watch 😊
Oh dear, seeing this definitely made my day better. You have been one of my favorites, of course because of great videos but also because you have talked about mental health issues - a thing I appreciate very, very much. I mean, I remember the 2021 "R U OK" video almost made me cry at the time. To see two things so close to my heart collide is always a lovely moment.
What a great Saturday morning surprise! And as it was a cooperation with Mark I enjoyed watching it even more! I can very much relate to what you explained about your personal feelings about the TH-cam thing. I was in a similar situation in around 2016 when I decided to stop making steam loco videos because this hobby had turned into something that was more like a second job (including very stressful moments). If the outcome of your thoughts is that we are getting some future videos and (even better) live streams together with Mark, that is perfectly fine for me and I'm looking forward to it.
Great to see a new video! I think a lot of retro computer content creators tend to lose sight of why they started their channels after a time; and then it stops being fun and becomes a source of stress, so taking a break and returning to your "roots" as it were, is a good thing! It's not as if most of your viewers will vanish, so a video every once in a while becomes a nice surprise for us, and no stress for you. Winner winner, chicken dinner! ;)
Great to see you doing content. But it should always be fun for you and never a chore. So it’s 100% right that you do what you want, when you want to do it. Lovely to see this portable 64!
Great to have you back. Loved Adrian’s cameo at 26:30. I could see your heart wasn’t in it before your break. The retro scene has so much content now I simply can’t watch it all and prefer less frequent, higher quality stuff.
Good to see you again dude, totally understand the hiatus as content creation can take over things and there is only so much time in a day. Have similar problems with work pressure, along with health and just too many things I like doing :) But great video on a very special system, glad that you got one in such good condition and that it will last well into the future.
Yes! Always nice to step away and have a mental health break :) Ive taken to going for walks without my mobile phone - I find it liberating! All the best to you
I talk to you guys last week and today I get a collaboration? This is AWESOME! Thank you both so much. As for burnout, you make videos if and when it suits you and we'll watch them and appreciate your efforts. All that matters is that you're enjoying yourself with whatever you do.
Hey welcome back Lurch! (he says in the middle of his own YT break) SX-64 is one of my white whales, but I can't justify the current market prices.. one day I'll get lucky!
Great to see you back! I got lucky and got ine of these back in the early 2000s when it was still possible to find stuff like that on a local buy and sell. Had a bad PLA which I replaced. I did *not* enjoy getting into the internals though!
Nice to see you back, glad you had a break. There is a nice collection of C64 games/discs that work on the C64 mini, these are great for Kung Fu Flash disc support.
Wow !. Mr. Lurch in the flesh. What a nice surprise. We all missed you. Hope everything is OK on your side and you're returning with more exciting content. Cheers mate !
I remember someone from church got one of these in 1987. I thought it was a bit long in the tooth, but his dad was an electronics guru (had his own shop specializing in numerical control) and i figured he found a deal somewhere.
A couple days ago I was feeling like I wanted to see what Mr. Lurch was up to and noticed that you hadn't posted in a while. I was thinking to myself, I hope everything is okay. I really like your videos and wish you a very happy 2025!!! I am so glad you are back posting videos again!!!
Totally understandable, I've always loved your take on things and this is amazing. But indeed, just make them when you feel like it, I didn't unsub because of the lack of content anyway (and many didn't I think). Take care!
hey! great video and great to see your face again! was wondering where you went actually. whenever you decide to make another video i will be happy as always to watch. thank you for putting the time and energy into making these videos. i always enjoy them. cheers!
Good to see you putting out video's when you feel like it, so many TH-cam channels are on this mission to get content out, with it's really harming the quality of the content, kind of dribble, repeated, and all but filler stuff, or they get a guest on and just crap on for ages. You mentioned having a few machines you didn't really care about, now a video on your likes and maybe reasons, what calls you to a particular machine would be nice.
thanks for the video. will be here to whatch anything you post whenever you post. most important thing is to not stress yourself. If you are not having fun then its not worth forcing yourself to make videos..
Yeah, I totally get what you're saying. I repair vintage machines as a hobby but would never consider running a YT channel about it, as I enjoy fixing the machines but the video side of it would be too much to handle.
I for one am thankful for my annual Lurch video! Some of my favourite TH-camrs only make one or two videos a year, and for me it just makes it more special when one does show up in my feed. Please only make videos when you feel like it and life allows!
I could swear on my life a friend of mine had a 128 version of this, i remember this well because i had to type Go64 everytime. But the weird thing is there never was a 128 version........ mabey i am mixing things up in my head, mabey i switched dimensions/realities, but i could swear he had a 128 of this.
I tried one of these SX64's years ago (back in the day) and found the display kind of horrible, the colour dots were way too big and really chopped up the characters, probably fine in games, but I like to type text, programming/on line etc., and this did not cut it for me. (plus they were silly expensive $$$$) I was probably spoiled by razor sharp amber monitors that were just so much better on my eyes, anything blurry was not on my liked list.
Honestly I totally get it. What you described does sound quite hollow-feeling. It reminds me of when some musicians brag about every waking moment going toward their music, how they haven't gone on holiday or seen family for years because they're working on this new album or that tour or what have you. I've always thought that was sad, rather than the marker of success that our society seems to treat it as. And I must admit some of those computers you bought only to fix and then sell, I was kind of thinking "that's a lot of effort for something you're not even going to keep or play with". Anyway, glad you were able to take a break and find what you loved in doing again! Glad to hear you're going to ignore the schedule "advice' for the algorithm. Just do what you want, when you want.
So great to see you again, Mr. Lurch!
Welcome back - a lovely treat to wake up to this morning for me!
I am not a long time viewer, your appearance on Mark's channel was my first introduction to Mr. Lurch. Immediately I knew that this is a person I want to follow. Thank you for returning to a world that needs you.
Lovely to see you back in any form. I'm glad you have rediscovered some of your enthusiasm for messing about with old computers again.
Sometimes it's a little too easy to throw ourselves into something until we burn out. Moderation is key. Great to see you again, thanks for sharing!

Only Dutch viewers will get this, but with the music and you two I say “Buurman en Buurman”😂. Great to see a video again Mr. Lurch!

Lurcholio!😊 Good to see you! Mike got my SX-64 repaired. It was a helluva struggle but he got it done, it was the mother of all hidden bugs.
Glad you’re back! Was just thinking the other day that I hoped something bad hadn’t happened to you.

Good to see you back, sir
While I own an SX-64 also, this is exactly how my best friend and I looked growing up. He was 6'8". 😅
