      Why do paper products cost so much? Trees. A renewable resource that's nonetheless destroying our rainforests. Perhaps google your question for further education, it's free! We certainly live in a world of entitlement, don't we?

    I get all my purses at either Goodwill or thrift stores. I quit using over the shoulder bag because it causes rotator cuff issues in women. I switched to crossbody which are easily found at thrift stores.

    I Reuse aluminum foil if its not dirty. Covering a bowl of soup or dry food for example..I'll remove it and if its good condition I simply toss it in the cabinet. I also use the family's old socks (holes, no match or just worn out) to clean things that are nasty! Cat or dog vomit, the base around the toilet..just places I want to clean and toss the nasty away.

    So much the same! Single mama to 4 children. I have my teenager cut my hair, haven’t had nails done in a year, bought a 50 pack of microfiber towels (still have paper towel rolls but use microfiber first) 50 for $15. Haven’t eaten out/no take out in 6 weeks. Did a pantry/freezer inventory and cook almost every night or heat up left overs. Bake more often also. Haven’t purchase anything “extra” in 3 weeks no spend May for me.

    I once used only worn out 100% cotton towels, sheets and clothing as cleaning rags. Then the fad was to use microfiber cloths instead of biodegradable cotton rags or other-purpose towels around the house. Never really like them but bought a few just because. Then I learned that microfiber was synthetic and not biodegradable, but recently it also has been found to be terrible for the planet in other ways when the components in microfiber do break down. Very harmfi\ul to our aquafers, waterways, and oceans. So for me it's back to the cotton cloths and towels for housekeeping, and cotton rags repurposed/recycled from the household cottons. Toilet paper is only bought for the toilet, and paper towels are for the rare cleaning tasks where laundering the dirty rags would do more harm than good to my washing machine.

    • @kristen1225
      @kristen1225 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh wow. I never knew how bad they were. I need to research it now. I have tried a few types of microfiber cloths, and I haven’t liked any. I’ve found cotton rags (like old wash rags) work wonderful because they don’t leave lint behind like my name brand, expensive microfiber cloths did.

    We got a under the sink reverse osmosis system. It makes yucky water taste incredible! We have well water but it's full of minerals. This has helped keep us from needing bottled water. We all have refillable water bottles. My in-laws live at the beach and also got an RO system. It's about 150.00 on Amazon but it will save you $$$ in the long run. I definitely recommend it.

    We stopped buying beef and instead we hunt. One caribou a year (we live in Alaska) acts as our red meat for the year. A hunting license is around $40 and a bullet is about fifty cents. We can also dipnet for salmon and get 35 salmon a year with a fishing license and a borrowed net. We also pick wild grown berries which save money. Blueberries, raspberries and lingonberries all grow wild in our area.

    Get ideas! I do most. We bought a Berkey Water System over a year ago. It was expensive initially but has saved us so much money. We also put our Keurig away and now use a percolator. This has been huge in saving us money. Plus unlike the Keurig I can take it apart to clean it. As far as handbags, I get sick when I think of the $$$ I spent on handbags. I sold them on EBay and I carry one from TJ Maxx that cost $12. I get so many compliments on it. Thanks for all you great videos!!!!!! ❤️

    I stopped buying storage containers. I use glass jars that I'm already paying for when I buy sauces, coffee etc.

    • @glendagonzalez2469
      @glendagonzalez2469 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @musicmad I learned that to use glass in the freezer you must leave enough room for the contents to expand during freezing, freeze uncovered for a few hours so you can monitor the expansion with the lid on the jar without screwing it on and screw it on once the contents have expanded. It also helps to store in the refrigerator to make sure the contents are cold before you put the jar in the freezer. I currently have 3 jars of bone broth and 1 jar of homemade pink pasta sauce in the freezer without any issues. Give it a try again. I know people who exclusively freeze in glass. That is my goal but I still use freezer bags and vacuum seal bags. I'm a work in progress.

    I still use paper towels to wipe out pots and pans that have grease or small grit in them. As I don't have a garburator it prevents grease and debris going down the drain and clogging the sink. Firestick is great -- saved a lot for my niece to give up cable. I still like meat, but eat 1/2 portions now. I only buy books now as gifts -- books and magazines are free online. Most of my clothing comes from thrift shops except socks and underwear and shoes. You can have mini vacations around home -- day trips, picnics, local museums and galleries. I am not a water drinker, but dilute apple or other juice to drink, or milk or coffee. Of course no plastic bottles of water! For eating out a lunch date is cheaper than dinner and avoid ordering alcohol. Jewelry is cheap at thrift shops or church Xmas bazaars. I grocery shop 2 or 3 times a week, buy what's on sale and plan my menus around that -- don't waste food anymore. For snacking at home I eat nuts rather than chips or desserts. Crackers and cheese in the evening is a good snack too.

I purchase lemons and make lemonade so my grandson can have a treat, not just me. It is me and my grandson. In addition, I keep all plastic bags (bread, sandwich, etc.) I package all my freezer stuff into them so i dont purchase extra bags. We plan to eat out once a month, usually it is a pizza or subs. i budget and meal plan. I also did away with cable. I just bought a car for cash. Felt amazing. Totally agree on the other items, too. No cable. No paper towels. Use cloth napkins (or stock paper ones from the rare takeout meals.) Also stopped buying canned beans. Most beans don't need to be fussed over. 3/4 cup dry beans covered with 4 inches of water in a crock pot on high turns into edible beans in a couple hours. Easy peasy. I do love carbonated beverages, so I invested in a SodaStream. It saves me some money, and I can use it with stevia flavors. (The SodaStream flavors are way too expensive. I use SweetLeaf or Sprouts stevia liquids.)

I'd make it last all week. If it wasnt that then it was 1 package of ground beef or ground turkey and I'd make it last all week. I would add it to beans, rice, chili, and soups/stews.

You are my spirit animal, we seriously don’t buy or do the same stuff! I need to get serious about minimalism and being even more frugal than I already am. I felt the fresh produce stuff on a spiritual level! Kaden is a cutie! P.S. I also have two cats who get into it on the regular!

    Here's a great paper towel hack: use large coffee filters! They actually are much stronger( you can reuse if you want to wash in washer)and don't leave lint. Another idea which is popular here in Ca: start a "Little Library". People put some kind of house in a pole on the street for you to drop in books you are finished with and take any that interest. Everything free! A wonderful way to move books around and also great for the children's books whic kids outgrow so quickly.

    also week my kids were growing up we went to the Lbrary all the time. we checked out books, magazines, books on tape and now you can get movies. just be sure to return them on time so there will not be a fine. or if you can't get by there to drop them off. just call the Library and get another 2 week extension.

    I cook my own freezer meals. Every time I cook I make sure I cook an extra portion: if my husband and me are two people, I cook for three. And that extra portion goes into a tupperware and into the freezer. So every time I feel like not cooking (or not getting my kitchen dirty) I just take something from the freezer and ta-daaa! Homemade food ready to go

They get a lot of children's books for Kaden & they often get recipe books. So if you're in the mood to splurge try Dollar Tree's book section. Also in case you didn't know they have cards.. Birthday etc 2 for $1. ❤

    I used to buy a lot of magazines too but not anymore. I am a book lover but try to stick to getting them places on the cheap like at flea markets and library book sales. And then I pass them on when I'm done. And 99% of the time I wait for the movies I want to see to be at the library and rent them for free.

    Regarding the Chicken Nuggets. You can buy large packs of Boneless Chicken Breast and make your own nuggets along with a metal cutter to create the animal shapes and they will be healthy too. No preservatives. As far as the Starbucks coffee or Dunkin creations.. Many of the recipes are online so you can make them at home.

    Meat: if you set a dollar amount for meat I.e. $50.00 a month, then purchase your grains/sides then vegetables you could get away with $145.00 per month. I did it for many years. The key is using the sale ads and purchasing meats that are on sale. I had a family of four and we lacked nothing.

    Meat and dairy products not only eat a big chunk of your budget- they also contributes to illnesses, thus lost work and sick days for you beautiful son!. I gave up meat and I am rarely if ever sick! My husband is a meat eater and had the flu for two weeks. I nursed him and never got it. My immune system works! Check your CRP at your next blood test. It is a measure of immune function. I am one of many healthier vegans and I’m saving money, too. You are so practical and logical about your spending, but this one is going to give your budge a huge boost directly and indirectly.

    I have mixed feelings about the car payment. I am opposed to leasing because the car is never yours and you are paying forever, however if you buy a car for 20,000 and finance it with a Zero interest loan over 5 years you will pay the same 20,000 at the end. If you pay for it in cash you will not have the cash to invest or earn interest. Your thoughts?
