tbh as big of a dlc it was, other companies could have gotten away with calling it a sequel instead of a DLC. Fromsoft was very modest categorizing it as only a dlc so I'm not mad at all. (I'm not a Fromsoft fanboy, I only played Elden Ring and Sekiro)
if game of the year is gaming experience of the year then yeh Shadow of the Erdtree deserves game of the year, nothing released this year was even comparible in quality and scope.
@@frdveloz that doesn't make it game. That's just moving of the goalposts so the access media can throw a bone to companies. Remember, these are the same people who think there is such a thing as a "modern audience".
I mean was there something comparable coming out this year? I wouldn’t know of anything, if you don’t like it getting game of the year, they should just make a new category called content of the year or something, cause it very much is comparable to some other games, as are many dlcs ofc
I think FF16 Rising tide was one of my favourite experiences this year, In love the hell out of the new area, love that Leviathan boss and I love how it adds a nice bow on Clive’s story
I don't mind it being eligible but the there were games other than Shadow of the Erdtree this year that could have been nominated instead. Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, Unicorn Overlord, Prince of Persia Lost Crown, Silent Hill 2, Satisfactory, Stellar Blade, Tekken 8. I would actually say Black Myth Wukong should be taken off the lists way before Shadow of the Erdtree that game was 7/10 at best imo.
my biggest issue with the sote nominations is the fact it made it to most innovative and not something like best soundtrack. the GOTY discussion is a bit of a waste of time since people have already decided if it should be included or not.
On just about every post or video about the game awards 80% of the comments are just whining that SOTE shouldn’t be nominated. For me personally it was by far the most enjoyable and memorable gaming experience this year. I guarantee nobody would of given a shit if another dlc was nominated previous years such as blood and wine or phantom liberty (which I don’t think were as good as SOTE). DLC’s have always been allowed to be nominated such as when blood and wine won best rpg in 2016 over ds3 or phantom liberty being nominated for best ongoing. This year didn’t have as many high quality big budget games so a DLC being nominated for so many categories just shows how mid this year was overall.
I played both, Wukong was amazing but the combat got insanely boring late game. Like legit I just wanted to know the lore instead of fighting... Pretty sad since it is the only thing it lacked, BUT it is a BIG factor to lack on. The combat should have been GoW level and it would probably beat ER SotE.
@ that's the thing I preferred erdtreee way over wukong. I think wukong is grossly boring and lacks so much content. however, it is just a better put together game with an arguably more polished finish when compared to a single elden ring dlc
In my opinion ER dlc should not been in GOTY for the reason that ER all ready won GOTY back in 2022 and is not fair for the game that could have been in the more deserving to be on the list
Well the quality was better than anything that came out, AND if Fromsoft was ANY other company they would've released the DLC as a sequel and not a DLC. It was over 50 hours of gametime on average beating most triple AAA games. One playthrough on the dlc for me was longer than Wukong lol. The dlc could have literally been a sequel. It deserves to have 2 GOTY as if they released 2 titles (Elden Ring and Elden Ring 2 being the dlc)
Fuck no. They ruined the integrity of what a game of the Award means by pandering the From Software fans so aggressively, best DLC should be a category. Established names coasting off critical reception of a years old game double dipping is lame.
As a Fromsoft fandoy, no freaking way. It's DLC, it's not a separate game. They are just messing up the principals. Yeah, it's DLC of the year, not game of the year.
@@smelltheglove2038 No argument to be had. If it was labeled as a sequel, there would have been 0 complaints about it being a sequel. Same playtime as other triple AAA games if not more even (my 1st playthrough was almost twice as long as Wukong), different map, etc. You guys see it as a DLC only cuz Fromsoft labeled it as such. If they said it was Elden Ring 2, nobody would have said anything against it. It borrows nothing from the base game lol.
@@tamim9266 but it's not a sequel. You have to access it through the game. If it had all come out at the same time it would just be another area. If my brother were a girl, he'd be my sister, but he's not.
@tamim9266 ...what? One question to end this argument. Can you play Shadow of The Erdtree without the base game? No, you can not. But I can play Dark Souls 2 and 3 without Dark Souls 1.
It obvious to why they put it in a DLC of a game released last year instead of another game.... Because they are biased and they dont want another game or 2 that shall not be named for the 90% of the committee (not the 10% of the fans that voted) to be nominated. Awards Shows are a sham and always has been. The Oscar proves this and The Game Awards are no different.
The DLC deserves to be in the game of the year category because, let's be honest, it's better than full actual games, but however, i would rather have black myth wukong take it
I am a huge FromSoft fan and I just disagree, dont get me wrong the DLC was amazing, loved every second of it, but to say it's GOTY just feels stupid, this is not a sequel/standalone game, this is simply added content to an already GOTY winner. In order for this DLC to get a nomination spot theyd have to take it from another studio that couldve been up there, it wouldnt be hard for the Game Awards to whip up a Best DLC category so DLCs dont rob other studios from a possible GOTY award.
@NateDates yet the DLC is better than full games in terms of quality and scale, so i don't see it as a big deal, and also, it's not fromsoftware fault so don't put that shit on them and i said that i would rather wukong have it but either way I'm happy with whoever takes it
@@morepower6800 What? I never blamed FromSoft, anyone with half a brain cell knows it's not up to the developers, it's the game awards who takes it from other studios, either way in the end another studio is robbed and lastly, I'd agree the DLC is better then some full games but you're also forgetting Dragons Dogma 2, HellDivers 2 and Warhammer Space Marine 2 that couldve easily been up there.
@NateDates i respect you, ma G, and sorry for saying that, but a lot of idiots are blaming fromsoftware and giving them hate also i feel you like the game would rather put the trash starwars game in multiple categories rather than SM2 so that should tell you
It's the only thing I played this year but I don't think it should get it, like it didn't break new ground or anything. It's just elden ring 1.5. More of great stuff.
