  • A field test of the bushcrafter from Bark River. What a great Knife! It excelled all our expectations and is now one of our favorite knives.
    Follow us on instagram: Dutchbushcraftknives.
    Here's what BRKT has got to say about the knife:
    ''The new Bark River Knives Bushcrafter has been designed to be a compact handful that is specifically aimed at wilderness survival and wilderness living. The Bushcrafter was designed and made at the request of Jason Thoune at DLT Trading. Jason asked Mr. Stewart to make a knife that was smaller than our number one selling Bushcraft knife but as usable in the field. He also wanted to have our convex scandi grind.
    Looking at all of the current offerings in this category, Mr. Stewart chose to make our version of this type of knife with Crucible’s CPM 3V at 60 Rockwell to give the best of edge holding and toughness for a knife of this size. He is comfortable with the slightly increased hardness because this knife will appeal to the more seasoned user who knows how to use a knife properly. The Bushcrafter fits the design criteria and will be one of our most popular models as we go forward.
    We produced the Bushcrafter with both a smooth spine, or traction grooves. This knife is supplied with the Bushcraft A sheath. However, it can also be matched with the Bush Seax Bantam, Fox River, Mini Fox River, Gameskeeper, American Small, Bushcraft D, Adventurer II, and Aurora sheath.''

    so for bushcrafting what is your favorite grind? I am looking to put a couple of knives together in Kydex piggyback companion knife. I am an assistant Scout leader trying to further myself and Bushcraft and to teach some of my kids in The Troop. Steel 3D of course

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey Chris, We love a so called scandi-vex. This is a knife with a scandi grind that has been slighty convexed. It takes the best of both worlds. The slight convex increases the apex strength and increases wood splitting capabilities. The slight convex also enhances the feathersticking capabilities as the edge will slide over the wood more easily while a true scandi will try to dig in the wood.

  • @victornekrasov1510
    @victornekrasov1510 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome test and that's an amazing spoon Mikkie! Did you feel the scandivex from bark river being a good wood carver, better than something with a tru scandi? Virtuovice mentioned a few times over the years that the bark river scandivex isn't that great so he always reprofiles his knives but that may have changed so just wanted your input.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Victor Nekrasov to be honest, I bought this knife from Virtuovice so he already reprofiled it!
      I must say that i think that the reprofiling is not a must. the main problem with the original edge that bark river gives to the knife is to big. About 40 degrees or something. When resharpening it to your own angle it will not be a problem!
      have a great day man!

      I would personally pick the Bushcraft for purely bushcraft but the Aurora for survival and when I need versatility.

    With this knife I alway was thought the blade looks a bit strange, but it seems to work very well. Do you have any experiences with the little brother "ultralight" with the thin blade? (Of course that is for smaller tasks and not a heavy duty knife.)
    And I have a question about the handle: Does it feel "right" in the hand, something like "locking" and natural and secure grip or is it kind of unstable ?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi ! We have no experience with the little brother of the bushcrafter, I personally would not want to go smaller than the bushcrafter and think this is a perfect size for a bushcraft knife! I understand your concern about the handle because it does feel different and less ergonomic than the gunny or bravo 1 series. Never the less it felt really stable and I worked with it for hours in a row and did not feel a single hot spot on my hand!! In my opinion the handle is one of the best handles that Bark River has made. Thank you for watching and see you later!

    Can u show us how to use paracord & how to chop .... How to hold knife with a lanyard 😬

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mate, I just ordered a chinese Esee replica because of your comment haha I'll do a destruction test with it in the near future!
      Paracord is only meant to be a extra support while chopping. Just make a loop that will just fit your hand trough, trough the lanyard hole. Now you'll be able to swing a knife holding it at the back of the handle. The paracord will support your grip on the handle while its on your wrists. I don't like it though as it is still dangerous. If you slip the knife can swing back into your arm. I almost never use it.

    Am I blind or are KnT not selling this knife? I can only see the LT version. If not, where can I get it?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Knives and Tools get's batches of knives every now and than. They rely on the importer so they can't decide which knives they want if the importer doesn't get them. You could always ask them if they're getting them later on. Otherwise you should check out DLTtrading. importing to europe is a bit expensive though.

    HI dutch bushcraft friends
    from your reviews I consider to get a enzo trapper but still can't make a decision to get D2,01 or N690 steel? any opinion from you?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mark, I don't have any experience with Enzo's D2. I've heard it can be a bit chippy. I do think it has the best edge retention of the 3. Both O1 and N690 are pretty easy to sharpen. the O1 has a bit better edge retention in my experience with the heat treat from enzo (which is fabulous on their O1). O1 does rust like crazy though. If you want a bit of everything the N690co would be my choice. If you don't mind keeping your knife clean and dry O1 would be my choice. If you are going to use it for simple tasks but want to keep a nice sharp edge for a long time D2 would be my choice. D2 will be harder to sharpen but will be as good as stainless in normal use.
      hope this can help you choose!

      +skitneola Nice! I think you'll love it. Did you order it in cpm3v? The Sheath is the Bark River Bushcraft sheath which easy to find on the DLT trading site. Thanks for watching and have fun with your knife! Cheers.

    • @joi777
      @joi777 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dutch Bushcraft Thanx! I'll see how I like the sheath it comes with, but from pictures and vids it looks like it's a little tight but that can also be a good thing. The bushcrafter only comes in one steel as per now I believe, so CPM 3V yes.

    • @joi777
      @joi777 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      S35Vn is pretty sweet. I personally prefer elmax and cpm-3v over S35VN though. CPM-3V is a lot tougher than S35VN. However, for a small knife toughness is not as important.

But I don't want anything happen to it. But with a choil, NY Ratmandu is Aces. and I also have one in tge SR101, so a INFI version is sort of rare.

    Guys you need to stop beating on the spine of these knifes, you are doing the work of a hatchet you know. Knifes aren't made for this, it looks so weird to me. It's all firepreparation but most times igniting twigs is fine, and if it's damp just carry some on your body to dry it out. Or split wood with a hatchet is so much easier.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For us it's a stress test as well. We think a survival knife should be able to handle it. A bushcraft knife not necessarily.
      Also I feel like when you're in a crowded camp environment without much light batonning can be a very safe option to split wood. In real life situations though we use easy to split knotless wood for that

    • @drkwrk5229
      @drkwrk5229 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DutchBushcraftKnives I get it, it still looks a bit weird 😅 have you tried turning the knife upside down and baton the wood down on it instead? It's such a funny approach.
