@Josefine Neuchs that's actually not true lol. Now before anyone. starts going hard on then keyboard and calling me a troll or whatever, I would like to clarify that I am actually a fan. I think she has an extremely unique voice -(ALWAYS a good thing) but it is quite limited range mostly regarding higher notes. I'm not saying this to bash her, and i'm not trolling. All I am doing is simply responding to a comment.
I agree. In fact, I feel like she has very little range at all. Which is why most of her live stuff ends up sounding like she's speaking rather than singing.
Eh lol y'all are conflating size of range with being able to reach higher notes which is not the case. Dua Lipa has a range of like 2 octaves and several notes, which we might see changing as she releases more music - 2~3 octaves is very much the average among pop vocalists so size wise it's hardly limited.
The main thing here is that her voice is placed much lower than a lot of female vocalists. While most pop singers are light lyric sopranos(a relatively high placement), Dua Lipa is closer to a contralto(the lowest placement of the female voice).
Also she makes a lot of stylistic choices vocally that limit her so that's a thing.
How can you watch this and say she doesn't have range?? That's strange to me. She is the only female artist that I know of who utilises their lower register to the fullest - meaning almost throughout an entire track. Most of them don't simply because its not common or they just don't have one. And this is the reason why I love her...it;s because of her lower register. Most people are obsessed and go crazy for singer who can belt higher notes but I prefer a lower.
I think she really showed us her vocal range on her song with Martin Garrix. Scared to be Lonely she hit some really high notes. I even think she used her head voice in there too.
She reminds me of Perrie Edwards in terms of vocal ability except Perri has that power and possibly a bigger upper range.
Well, see, you take the highest note she can sing and subtract the lowest note she can sing (in chest voice of course) and then the difference is her vocal range. Her lowest recorded (chest voice) note is a D3, in Room for 2, and her highest (chest voice) is a G#5, in Scared to Be Lonely. So the difference is ~2.5 octaves.
For those who say the beginning was bad,it's low key,a female voice can barely do it,she still did a good job!

her voice may be deeper then most other female voices in the industry at the moment, but that doesn't mean her vocal range can steadily hold low notes
eli sa there's a difference between an Alto (what Dua is), and a Tenor or Bass (which are the lower, MALE ranges....)
tenor & bass aren't necessarily MALE ranges, as I'm a tenor and can easily reach the notes at the beginning of The Hills original & can go all the way down to COOL (troye Sivan)

It was flat. I’m not bashing her, but she could’ve done it better. And honestly it sounds like she needs a rest. Her vocals sound a little strained. She definitely could’ve done this better, and we all know it. It’s not horrible, but it has a lot of potential for improvement.

I remeber watching this 2 years ago and I was discovering dua lipa for the first time. She wasnt that popular back then, but when I heard this cover of hers I immediately digged her unique vibe and her husky voice. She was different from others back then and she is still one of a kind now... only difference is that she's more famous now 😁. So proud of dua 💗
