Indeed...I listened to this last night on the way to watching Peterborough Sports v Banbury United in the third round of FA Cup Qualifying on a rainy Tuesday night. You've gotta properly put it in to make something of it
This video just proves that they were a massive band, yet people say they were underrated. They had a number 1 album, they were massive. Shame they broke up.
They fell apart with their third album and Oasis splitting up didn’t help them either because they were touring with them and getting loads of Oasis fans on board
They are an Underrated Band because hardly anyone in the United States Of America knows who they are they didn't get much airplay here other than this song. There record label screwed them over during there 3rd Album and they struggled to get gigs so they called it quits and went on Highatus they didn't break up .
When I was younger I was lucky enough to see incredible bands like The Clash and The Jam live. The Enemy had that same energy and passion, took me back to those heady days.
This video is recorded at the Oasis concert on 7th July 2009, which I was at. Oasis and The Enemy, were awesome! This gig was one of the last before Oasis broke-up...quite sad really.
@@BeHonestYouShatIt Kasabian wasn't the support for the Oasis at the Coventry gig..I'd remember that, as I do like Kasabian. According to Noel, Kasabian didn't want to support Oasis in Coventry, because they are Leicester City fans.

there's no denying it this band were not everyone's cup of tea but they were great to watch live and had some great songs to sing along to. if you've not seen them live goto their farewell shows and sing your heart out for them.
bullshit. bands nowadays don't need anyone. it's not like the old days where record labels were the only platform music could exist on. have you looked at the internet lately?
Their careers are not over. Tom went solo, and Andy (bassist) joined Autopilot, who are good (nothing like The Enemy either, even his basslines are a bit different). Dunno what Liam (the drummer) is doing, but yeah, at least 2 of them are still going, just on different paths now
@@Steviemtothec You're (he's) right. Don't need to have ever actually been or tried to be a part of it to know that will never change. The music industry was invented by wankers, for wankers, and will forever be run by, and full of, you guessed it, Wankers!
Mad to think this was a warm up gig for oasis that night. Best night of my life seeing them two bands. 50% only turned up for the enemy, was a homecoming gig for them

@user-ix4qy7wc2d You've been waiting 4 years for an explanation and nobody's given you one, so here it is. British Steel was a huge steel production company, which was the source of many jobs, especially in northern England. In the 70's it was thought to be a very stable industry, but due to cheaper steel being produced abroad, it dwindled in the 80's and eventually shut down completely, causing widespread unemployment and poverty in many towns. There's more to it but that's the general idea. In the 1979 song 'Making Plans for Nigel' by XTC, the parents of anxious fictional boy Nigel insist that he's happy and that he's set for life because "he has his future in British Steel". This Enemy song is a sequel to that, where Nigel is grown up, and there is no British Steel. He works an unfulfilling job in a department store, but manages to still find happiness going out dancing on the weekends and falling in love.
I never went. seen them twice there and the last time blew me away. Didn't want to spoil the memory of it when we left the o2 there were loads of us just standing in the streets arms all raised and singing the chorus to "this song" was my favourite gig.
Thank you Fifa 10 for introducing me to such an awesome band

it is mate. they'll be back in 5 years doing a joint shed 7 and ocean cs tour
pureding! Hope so!
I saw them in 2007 when they were supporting Stereophonics.

Chelsea 0-6 Blackpool. On World-Class.

Best British band of the last 20 years.
the most underrated band in the whole music industry!! their fuking amazing live and in the studio
Can't disagree buddy
You know there's no such thing as a free meal
And there ain't no future in British steel
No, the only thing that makes us smile
Is a joke and a laugh and a night on the tiles
No one ever gives you anything for free
Unless you start sleeping with the BBC
Nigel got a job in the city
Works in a department store
Slogging his guts out all through the week
Looking forward to the weekend score
But tonight he's gonna be somebody
Dancing his heart out with a local girl
She doesn't care whether he's got no money
There's more to life than they teach you at school
And tonight he's gonna reach somebody
Falling in love with a local girl
She doesn't care whether he's got no money
She knows he's got a heart of solid gold
Solid gold
Solid gold
You know there's no such thing
As a ticket to ride
Or satisfaction without sacrifice
The only thing that's really true about life
Is that the older you get
The more you compromise
No one's gonna hand it to you on a plate
You've gotta give give give
Before you take take take
Nigel got a job in the city
Works in a department store
Thought that his future
Was as good as sorted
But he's happy in his little world
You know there's no such thing as a free meal
And there ain't no future in British steel
No, the only thing that makes us smile
Is a joke and a laugh and a night on the tiles
No one ever gives you anything for free
Unless you start sleeping with the BBC

Slogging his guts out all through the week
Looking forward to the weekend score
But tonight he's gonna be somebody
Dancing his heart out with a local girl
She doesn't care whether he's got no money
There's more to life
Than they teach you at school
And tonight he's gonna reach somebody
Falling in love with a local girl
She doesn't care whether he's got no money
She knows he's got a heart of solid gold
Solid gold
